Kirknewton, West Lothian

Kirknewton House, formerly known as Meadowbank House is a mansion house and estate on the edge of the village of Kirknewtown in West Lothian, Scotland. The house is Category B listed.

Kirknewton railway station is a railway station serving Kirknewton in West Lothian, Scotland, Opened as Kirknewton in February 1848, the station was renamed Midcalder and Kirknewton after two months, before becoming Midcalder in 1855. The full circle was finally completed 127 years later in May 1982 when the name reverted to Kirknewton. This was to distinguish it from Kirknewton station near Mindrum on the NER Cornhill Branch.The station lies on the Edinburgh branch of the West Coast Main Line, although it is not served by main line express services - it is served by commuter services on the Shotts Line from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Waverley via Shotts. It is managed by ScotRail. As there is no footbridge on the station (the footbridge was removed prior to electrification), passengers wishing to cross the line must do so via the level crossing, which is one of the most incorrectly used in Scotland. There are plans to provide a new crossing (subway) which will remove the level crossing. The level crossing is automatic and approach controlled which means trains which call at the station towards Glasgow have to stop so the driver can turn on the level crossing, This is done to allow traffic to cross when the train is stopped in the station.

The centre is located within the estate of Linburn House, a country house which was demolished in 1955. It is operated by the charity Scottish War Blinded.

The centre provides assistance to adults who have been members of the armed forces and now have a visual impairment. Military Museum Scotland is a military history museum in Wilkieston that covers Scottish military history from the First World War to the present day.

Jupiter Artland is a contemporary sculpture park and art gallery outside the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Jupiter Artland Foundation is a registered charity that is supported by classes, workshops, events, ticket sales, and donations. It is open to general visits between May and September. Jupiter Artland sits in the grounds of Bonnington House, a 19th-century country house around 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west of the city of Edinburgh. The grounds of the house have been developed as the sculpture park and two new wings designed by Benjamin Tindall Architects were completed in 2015 to provide indoor gallery space. The sculpture collection was established in 1999 by art collectors Robert and Nicky Wilson and "focuses on nurturing the work of contemporary artists and commissioning site-specific work for its 120 acres of woodland and meadow."In April 2016, Jupiter Artland was shortlisted for the 2016 Museum of the Year award.In 2018, it was a filming location for BBC Four's "Magic Numbers: Hannah Fry's Mysterious World of Maths", presented by mathematician Hannah Fry.

Bonnington House is a 19th-century country house near Wilkieston, around 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west of the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a category A listed building.The house was built in 1622, and was the home of the Foulis Baronets of Colinton. Sir James Foulis, 2nd Baronet, served as Lord Justice Clerk from 1684 to 1688, taking the title Lord Colinton. Bonnington later passed to the Wilkies of Ormiston.The house passed from the Scott family to Hugh Cunningham, Lord Provost of Edinburgh around 1702. It is said to have been doubled in size c.1720. In 1720 the house was owned by Hugh's son, Alexander Cunningham. In 1858 the house was completely remodelled in a Jacobean style. The house and its 100-acre (40 ha) estate was bought by the present owners in 1999, and in 2001 the house was refurbished by Lee Boyd Architects. Two new wings were designed by Benjamin Tindall Architects, granted planning consent in 2010 and completed in 2015. The grounds of the house have been developed as a sculpture park, now open to the public as Jupiter Artland.

Royal Air Force Kirknewton, otherwise known as RAF Kirknewton, is a Royal Air Force station at Whitemoss, a mile south east of Kirknewton, West Lothian, Scotland. It is retained by the Ministry of Defence, as Kirknewton Airfield and is home to 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.

Haltoun House, or Hatton House (or occasionally Argile House), was a Scottish baronial mansion set in a park, with extensive estates in the vicinity of Ratho, in the west of Edinburgh City Council area, Scotland. It was formerly in Midlothian, and it was extensively photographed by Country Life in September 1911.

Burnwynd is a village on the border between the City of Edinburgh and West Lothian, Scotland. It is situated on the A71 road. Burnwynd is home to approximately twenty houses and also Hatton Tennis Club. Old documents also place Robert Burns in Burnwynd on several trips out of Edinburgh.
