Onondaga Community College (OCC) is a public community college that serves Onondaga County and Central New York and is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. OCC's 280-acre main campus is located in the town of Onondaga which borders the city of Syracuse.

Onondaga Hill is a hamlet in the Town of Onondaga in Onondaga County, New York, United States, southwest of the city of Syracuse. It is located on the Seneca Turnpike at the intersection of New York State Route 173 and New York State Route 175. Onondaga Hill was the location of the first Onondaga county courthouse, built in 1805 and in use as a school after the county seat moved to Syracuse in 1830. Until 2005, the hamlet was the location of Onondaga's town hall. The Onondaga Free Library and the Town of Onondaga Historical Society are in Onondaga Hill. Community General Hospital and Van Duyn Home and Hospital are located on the eastern edge of the hamlet, near the Syracuse city line. The main campus of Onondaga Community College lies on the hamlet's western edge. Onondaga Hill is populated mainly of middle-class families. The children of Onondaga Hill attend the Westhill Central Schools district.

The Gen. Orrin Hutchinson House, also known as the General George Hutchinson House, is the only Town of Onondaga site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Orrin Hutchinson was a Brigadier General of the militia. He died in 1842. He served as supervisor of the Town of Onondaga.The house is located at 4311 West Seneca Turnpike. It has operated as a restaurant for many years. At one time the restaurant was called "The General Hutchinson House"; later it was renamed "The Inn of the Seasons". It was constructed around 1812, and shows Dutch and other architectural influences.

Onondaga is a town in Onondaga County, New York, United States encompassing 65 square miles. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 22,937. The town is named after the native Onondaga tribe, part of the Iroquois Confederacy. Onondaga was incorporated April 2, 1798 and is located southwest of the city of Syracuse, which it borders. The villages and hamlets which make up the town are: Cedarvale, Howlett Hill, Navarino, Nedrow, Onondaga Hill, Sentinel Heights, South Onondaga, Southwood, Split Rock, and Taunton.

Taunton is a hamlet in the Town of Onondaga in Onondaga County, New York, United States, southwest of the city of Syracuse. Landmarks of Taunton are the former Morey's Mill, once a popular source of apple cider, and Wolf Hollow, an estate created by William S. Andrews, Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, and his wife, noted author Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews. Taunton has a scenic situation amid drumlins at the foot of the Appalachian Plateau escarpment. Taunton was served by an interurban trolley line that connected the cities of Syracuse and Auburn, passing through nearby Split Rock. The trolley right-of-way has become Onondaga Boulevard.

Westhill Senior High School is a public high school located in the western suburbs of, and immediately adjacent to, the City of Syracuse, New York. It serves grades 9 through 12, primarily from the neighborhood of Westvale (located in the Town of Geddes), as well as portions of the Onondaga Hill area (located in the Town of Onondaga). Westhill Senior High School is part of the Westhill Central School District.

Corcoran High School is a public high school located in Syracuse, New York, having approximately 1800 students. In 2005, it became a member of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. It is one of the top 1000 ranked schools in the country as of 2009, but has been in the top 600 (2007). The principal is Daniel Straub.

Bishop Ludden Junior/Senior High School is a private, Catholic high school in Syracuse, New York. It is located within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse.

Strathmore, or Strathmore "By the Park" Subdivision, is a neighborhood in the southwest of Syracuse, New York, United States. It is a mostly residential neighborhood that has many houses from the early and middle of the twentieth century.

Woodland Reservoir is a 121-million-US-gallon (460,000 m3) reservoir serving the city of Syracuse, New York. The reservoir was built in the 1890s as the receiving end of the new water supply for Syracuse coming by a 19 miles (31 km) pipeline from the Skaneateles Lake. It was designated an American Water Landmark in 1977.

Elmwood Park is located in the southwestern portion of Syracuse, New York. The park was originally built and opened as a privately owned park in 1893. It is significant as an example of such parks from the Pleasure Ground Era. After the site was purchased by the city of Syracuse in 1927, bridges, embankments, walls and stairs built of wood and stone were added, making the park also representative of the Reform Park Era. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
