Gautier ( GOH-SHAY) is a city in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States, along the Gulf of Mexico west of Pascagoula. It is part of the Pascagoula Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 18,572 at the 2010 census, up from 11,681 at the 2000 census. In 2002, Gautier had annexed land more than doubling its area.Gautier is a bedroom resort community surrounded by bayous and wetlands on three sides. The natural environment of Gautier offers many opportunities for recreation and eco-tourism. The Gulf Coast region, of which Gautier is a part, has been considered a relatively high growth area of the state; however, the loss of houses and jobs after Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005 led to outmigration in 2006.

Shepard State Park is a public recreation area located off U.S. Highway 90 on the south side of the city of Gautier, Mississippi. The city has had responsibility for the state park's management since 2013.

Prior to 2010 it was an unincorporated area and recorded as a census-designated place, with a population of 3,046 at the 2000 census. At the 2010 census its population was included in the data for the city of Gautier. It is part of the Pascagoula Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The county was named for Andrew Jackson, general in the United States Army and afterward President of the United States.Jackson County is included in the Pascagoula, MS Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located at the southeastern tip of the state. The county has sandy soil and is in the Piney Woods area. It borders the state of Alabama on its east side. The county was severely damaged by both Hurricane Camille in August 1969 and Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, which caused catastrophic effects.

Escatawpa River is a 129-mile-long (208 km) river in the states of Alabama and Mississippi. It is a tributary of the Pascagoula River.Escatawpa is a name derived from the Choctaw language meaning "where cane is cut".

The transmitter is off Mississippi State Highway 57 in Vancleave. It shares the transmitter tower with sister station WMJY.

Griffin House in Moss Point, Mississippi, United States, is a Greek Revival building built in the mid-1800s. It is located on a 50-acre (20 ha) property overlooking the joining of the Pascagoula River and the Escatawpa River, about 5 miles (8.0 km) in from the outlet of the Pascagoula to the Gulf of Mexico. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It was deemed significant as "one of the more architecturally and historically significant buildings in Jackson County...a good example of late Greek Revival architecture with Italianate influence...[and] one of the few surviving mid-nineteenth-century residences in the area."Its historical importance relates to its continuous association with the Griffin and Dantzler families, who were pioneers in the lumber industry of Mississippi. William Griffin opened the first successful lumber mill (in the state?). The house was built for Dr. Erasmus T. Griffin, son of William. It served as the business office for the Dantzler Lumber Company during the early 1900s. As of 1983, it was still in the family, owned by William Griffin's great-grandson A. F. Dantzler.

The Pascagoula Abduction was an alleged UFO sighting and alien abduction in 1973, in which Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker claimed they were abducted by aliens while fishing near Pascagoula, Mississippi.
