Temple Israel is a Reform Jewish synagogue located at 5725 Walnut Lake Road, in West Bloomfield Township, Oakland County, Michigan, in the United States. In 2008, Temple Israel was claimed to be among the largest Reform congregations in the United States. As of 2012, the congregation claimed that it is the largest congregation in North America, and the official database of the Union for Reform Judaism reported that the congregation has 3,383 members.

Frankel Jewish Academy (FJA), named after its major benefactors Jean and Samuel Frankel, is a college-preparatory independent Jewish day school in West Bloomfield, a city in the Detroit metropolitan area. Opened in 2000 primarily for providing continuity of Jewish education for the graduates of Hillel Day School, a local Conservative K – 8 school, it became the first multi-denominational Jewish high school in Michigan. It provides both secular and Judaic studies instruction for ninth through 12th grade students coming from various denominations within Judaism, including Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox.

Michigan Jewish Institute (MJI) was a Jewish-sponsored independent institution of higher and professional education in the Metro Detroit, Michigan area. Its administrative office was in Southfield, Michigan, and its primary campus was West Bloomfield Township. The institute was located at the 45-acre Campus of Living Judaism, affiliated with the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. In March 2016, the U.S. Department of Education denied its recertification of the school, no longer allowing it to access federal financial aid. The institute immediately suspended the majority of its operations.

As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 2,375.About 40% of the city's total area is water, with the main geographic feature being Orchard Lake, which occupies about 30% of the city's total area. Orchard Lake Village is home to St. Mary's Preparatory and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, in addition to the Orchard Lake Country Club and Pine Lake Country Club. It is also the home of Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory and Orchard Lake Schools, formerly Michigan Military Academy.

WBLD (89.3 FM), branded on-air as Lakes FM, is a high school radio station licensed to Orchard Lake, Michigan, United States, broadcasting a Top 40 format. Owned by the West Bloomfield School District, it first began broadcasting in 1974. In the fall of 2014, WBLD operations were moved from West Bloomfield High School to the Green Media Center on the Sheiko Elementary School site. In December 2014, WBLD was rebranded as "Lakes FM". Lakes FM now plays Top 40 Hits with a mix of older songs. This launched the "Old School, New School, From Your School" Slogan. In April, the FCC granted WBLD more power and to relocate the antenna from West Bloomfield High School to West Bloomfield Fire Tower #1, which is just north on Orchard Lake Road. In the fall, Lakes FM broadcasts all WBHS varsity football and most basketball games.

West Bloomfield High School is a public high school in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The school is the only public high school in the West Bloomfield School District. The School Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is about 1900. West Bloomfield High School was previously located in the Abbott Middle School building, which opened on January 31, 1955 with an enrollment of 406. From fall 1968 through spring 1971, the school was temporarily located at the site of the current Orchard Lake Middle School. The current building was built in 1971. West Bloomfield High School has begun to offer the Advanced Placement International Diploma to the classes of 2011 and beyond. In addition, it established additional Advanced Placement courses starting the 2010-2011 school year. The school has been recognized by Newsweek magazine as being in the top 6% of U.S. public high schools.

Apple Island is a 35-acre (140,000 m2) island that lies in the middle of Orchard Lake, in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan. The island was formed during the region's last ice age, 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. Over 400 species of flora currently inhabit the island, including many rare varieties in Oakland County. Native Americans previously inhabited Apple Island, until ceding the island to the United States in the Treaty of Detroit. Currently, the West Bloomfield School District uses the island as an educational nature center.

The West Bloomfield Trail is a rail trail in Oakland County, Michigan. It is built on the right-of-way of an early Michigan railroad, most recently operated by the Michigan Air-Line Railway.

Orchard Lake is a 795-acre lake located in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The lake is within the city of Orchard Lake Village. It has a 110-foot (34 m) maximum depth. Orchard Lake is the second-largest lake and third-deepest lake in Oakland County. The lake has a 35-acre island in the middle of it, Apple Island. The island was frequently inhabited by local Native Americans before the coming of Western settlers, who later planted an apple orchard on the island, giving rise to the current name of the lake. Apple Island is now abandoned and has been designated a protected wildlife sanctuary. Once a year the island is circumnavigated by runners of Team CG across the lake’s frozen surface. Another island, Cedar Island, is near the lake's western shore. The campus of the old Michigan Military Academy is on the northeast shore of the lake. The campus is now home to SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary and St. Mary's Preparatory.
