Orchard Lake (Michigan)

Apple Island is a 35-acre (140,000 m2) island that lies in the middle of Orchard Lake, in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan. The island was formed during the region's last ice age, 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. Over 400 species of flora currently inhabit the island, including many rare varieties in Oakland County. Native Americans previously inhabited Apple Island, until ceding the island to the United States in the Treaty of Detroit. Currently, the West Bloomfield School District uses the island as an educational nature center.

The Michigan Military Academy, also known as M.M.A., was an all-boys military prep school in Orchard Lake Village, Oakland County, Michigan. It was founded in 1877 by J. Sumner Rogers and closed in 1908 due to bankruptcy. Some journalists have referred to the school as the Second West Point. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as the Orchard Lake Schools Historic District.

St. Mary's Preparatory is a co-educational, Catholic, college preparatory high school with a Polish-American heritage in the Detroit suburb of Orchard Lake Village, Michigan. Its mission and message is "God, Family and St. Mary's."

Saint Mary's College, also known as St. Mary's College of Madonna University, is a private college located in Orchard Lake Village, Michigan. St. Mary's College shares its campus with St. Mary's Preparatory and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary. It is located on the former site of the Michigan Military Academy. It was founded in 1885 by Fr. Joseph Dabrowski and transferred in 2003 to become St. Mary's College of and the Orchard Lake Campus of Madonna University. Enrollment before the transfer was about 130 and specialized in Polish and Polish-American studies.

SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary is a four-year private Polish seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, United States. The seminary, taking its name from Saints Cyril and Methodius, was founded in 1885 in Detroit, Michigan, to prepare candidates for the Roman Catholic priesthood primarily to serve Polish American immigrant communities.

The Polish Home Army Museum in Orchard Lake, Michigan is dedicated to the memory of the brave men and women of the Armia Krajowa during World War II. The museum tells the story of the struggle for the freedom and independence of Poland during World War II. On September 1, 1939, without declaring war, the Nazi German Army, Navy, and Air Forces invaded Poland from the north, west and south. Sixteen days later, on September 17, the Soviet Union also attacked Poland from the east. For Europe, the Nazi invasion of Poland marked the beginning of World War II; for Poland, the Soviet invasion also marked the beginning of a 50-year struggle against communism.

The West Bloomfield Trail is a rail trail in Oakland County, Michigan. It is built on the right-of-way of an early Michigan railroad, most recently operated by the Michigan Air-Line Railway.

The City of Orchard Lake Village is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A northern suburb of Detroit, Orchard Lake Village is located roughly 27 miles (43.5 km) from downtown Detroit, and about 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Pontiac. The city is mostly surrounded by West Bloomfield Township, with a small northeast border with Keego Harbor. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 2,375.About 40% of the city's total area is water, with the main geographic feature being Orchard Lake, which occupies about 30% of the city's total area. Orchard Lake Village is home to St. Mary's Preparatory and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, in addition to the Orchard Lake Country Club and Pine Lake Country Club. It is also the home of Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory and Orchard Lake Schools, formerly Michigan Military Academy.

Cass Lake is on the main branch of the Clinton River. Upstream from Cass Lake is 243-acre (98 ha) Loon Lake. Cass Lake also connects with 363-acre (147 ha) Elizabeth Lake & the small Dow Lake, in Dow Ridge. Downstream from Cass Lake is the 532-acre (215 ha) Sylvan Lake.Cass Lake is the largest and deepest lake in Oakland County, and is in the northern Metro Detroit region of southeastern Michigan.

West Bloomfield Township is a charter township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A northwestern suburb of Detroit, West Bloomfield is located roughly 27 miles (43.5 km) from downtown Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 65,888.

West Bloomfield High School is a public high school in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The school is the only public high school in the West Bloomfield School District. The School Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year is about 1900. West Bloomfield High School was previously located in the Abbott Middle School building, which opened on January 31, 1955 with an enrollment of 406. From fall 1968 through spring 1971, the school was temporarily located at the site of the current Orchard Lake Middle School. The current building was built in 1971. West Bloomfield High School has begun to offer the Advanced Placement International Diploma to the classes of 2011 and beyond. In addition, it established additional Advanced Placement courses starting the 2010-2011 school year. The school has been recognized by Newsweek magazine as being in the top 6% of U.S. public high schools.

WBLD (89.3 FM), branded on-air as Lakes FM, is a high school radio station licensed to Orchard Lake, Michigan, United States, broadcasting a Top 40 format. Owned by the West Bloomfield School District, it first began broadcasting in 1974. In the fall of 2014, WBLD operations were moved from West Bloomfield High School to the Green Media Center on the Sheiko Elementary School site. In December 2014, WBLD was rebranded as "Lakes FM". Lakes FM now plays Top 40 Hits with a mix of older songs. This launched the "Old School, New School, From Your School" Slogan. In April, the FCC granted WBLD more power and to relocate the antenna from West Bloomfield High School to West Bloomfield Fire Tower #1, which is just north on Orchard Lake Road. In the fall, Lakes FM broadcasts all WBHS varsity football and most basketball games.
