St Peter's Church, Littlebury Green

Littlebury Green is a village in the civil parish of Littlebury and the district of Uttlesford in Essex, England. Littlebury Green is one of three settlements, the others Catmere End and Chapel Green, at the west and south-west of Littlebury parish, and subordinate to the parish village of Littlebury near the north-east border with the parish of Saffron Walden. The village is on Littlebury Green Road, 3 miles (5 km) west from the town of Saffron Walden, 12 miles (19 km) south from the city of Cambridge, and 23 miles (37 km) north-east from the county town and city of Chelmsford. The M11 motorway runs north to south 1 mile (1.6 km) east from the village.

Strethall is a village and a civil parish in the Uttlesford District, in the English county of Essex, near the town of Saffron Walden. Having suffered no casualties in World War I it is known as one of the thankful villages. The Icknield Way Path passes through the village on its 110-mile route between Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire and Knettishall Heath in Suffolk. The A route for walkers, horse riders and off-road cyclists also passes through the village.

Arkesden is a village and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. The village is 4.3 miles (7 km) south-west from Saffron Walden, approximately 6 miles (10 km) from Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, and 22 miles (35 km) north-west from the county town of Chelmsford. The Wicken Water stream flows through the village. Arkesden is referred to as "Archesdana" in the Doomsday book of 1086, located in the ancient hundred of Uttlesford.The parish, with its own council, is part of the parliamentary constituency of Saffron Walden, and according to the 2001 census, had a population of 363, increasing slightly to 366 at the 2011 census.The 13th-century parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, heavily restored in 1855. The village has a village hall, on the church green, and one public house, the Axe and Compasses. The musician Steve Marriott (of rock band Small Faces) died in a fire at his home at Arkesden in 1991.

It is 41 miles 55 chains (67.1 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Newport and Great Chesterford stations. Its three-letter station code is AUD. The station is managed by Greater Anglia. There was a platform at the eastern end of the station (52.0043°N 0.2077°E / 52.0043; 0.2077) for a branch line to Saffron Walden that was closed in 1964.

Great Chesterford railway station is on the West Anglia Main Line serving the village of Great Chesterford in Essex, England. It is 45 miles 56 chains (73.5 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Audley End and Whittlesford Parkway stations. Its three-letter station code is GRC. The station and all trains calling are operated by Greater Anglia. The station was once the point where the Newmarket Railway left the London to Cambridge main line. This route was authorised in 1846, opened on 3 January 1848 for goods and to passengers three days later. The Newmarket branch was an early victim of poor finance leading to closure: it was temporarily closed on 30 June 1850 and reopened on 9 September 1850, but the section between Great Chesterford and Six Mile Bottom was closed permanently on 9 October 1851 with the opening of the direct line between Six Mile Bottom and Cambridge. The next station to the north of Great Chesterford was Bourne Bridge.

Saffron Walden Rural District was a rural district in the county of Essex, England. It was created in 1894 and later enlarged by the addition of the parishes of Berden, Birchanger, Elsenham, Farnham, Henham-on-the-Hill, Manuden, Stansted Mountfitchet and Ugley from the disbanded Stansted Rural District. It was named after and administered from Saffron Walden. Since 1 April 1974 it has formed part of the District of Uttlesford. At the time of its dissolution it consisted of the following 31 civil parishes.
