Hillsborough is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia 13 kilometres (8 mi) from Newcastle's central business district on the eastern side of Lake Macquarie. It is part of the City of Lake Macquarie north ward.

South Cardiff Football Club is a semi-professional soccer club based in Cardiff South a suburb of Newcastle, Australia. The club was established in 1964 and currently competes in the Northern NSW State League Division 1. They are known as "The Gunners" after the nickname of London club Arsenal. The club in its current form celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 although there is historical records of South Cardiff Football Club back to the 1930s at least. South Cardiff was the first team to score in the Round of 32 national knockout competition the FFA CUP. In 2015, South Cardiff were relegated to the Northern NSW State League Division 1 for the 2016 season. The club's stated mission is to qualify for re-admission to the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW In 2023 South Cardiff will field all teams from U9s to First Grade, with U13s-U18s competing in the Premier Youth League, Reserves and First Grade competing in HitFM Northern League 1 and U9s to U12s competing in Northern New South Wales Football's Junior Development Leagues

Cardiff railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the western Newcastle suburb of Cardiff, opening on 14 March 1889, relocating to its present site on 8 June 1902.Despite being one of the busiest stations in the region, the station long had substandard facilities, in particular, a lack of disabled access. There had been numerous (often contradictory) proposals to either upgrade Cardiff or relocate the station to the abandoned station at nearby Glendale, following community pressure stretching back to the 1990s.In November 2010, work started on a series of upgrades. These improved the parking and stairs and provided wheelchair access, weather protection, and a lengthened platform capable of accommodating eight carriage trains.

The Hunter Ice Skating Stadium is an ice sports and public skate centre, opened in 2000 and located in Warners Bay, a suburb of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. The stadium serves as the home ice rink of the Newcastle Northstars who compete in the Australian Ice Hockey League and East Coast Super League.

The Tickhole Tunnel, also called the Kotara (Tickhole) Railway Tunnel, is a heritage-listed double track railway tunnel that carries the Main Northern railway line beneath the Newcastle Inner City Bypass (A37) and is a diversion over the Tickhole Creek. The tunnel is located between Cardiff and Kotara stations in the City of Newcastle local government area of New South Wales, Australia.The original 161-metre (176 yd) tunnel opened on 15 August 1887. It initially only had one track, but provision was made for the line to be duplicated which duly occurred in 1891. As part of the electrification of the line, in 1983 tenders were called for a second tunnel, of 205 metres (673 ft), completed in 1984. This second tunnel is used by southbound services, while the original tunnel once again became single track for northbound services.

The east of the suburb contains George McGregor Park, a 19.66-hectare (48.58-acre) bushland reserve named after the late, former South Wallsend Progress Association member, George McGregor, is managed by the City of Newcastle.
