Mortlake and East Sheen War Memorial

East Sheen, also known as Sheen, is a suburb in south-west London in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Its long high street has shops, offices, restaurants, cafés, pubs and suburban supermarkets and is also the economic hub for Mortlake of which East Sheen was once a manor. This commercial thoroughfare, well served by public transport, is the Upper Richmond Road West which connects Richmond to Putney. Central to this street is The Triangle, a traffic island with a war memorial and an old milestone dating from 1751, marking the 10 miles (16 km) distance to Cornhill in the City of London.The main railway station serving the area, Mortlake, is centred 300 metres (980 ft) north of this. Sheen has a mixture of low-rise and mid-rise buildings and it has parks and open spaces including its share of Richmond Park, accessed via Sheen Gate; Palewell Common, which has a playground, playing fields, tennis courts and a pitch and putt course; and East Sheen Common which is owned by the National Trust and leads into Bog Gate, another gate of Richmond Park.

The Hare and Hounds is a Young's public house at Upper Richmond Road, East Sheen, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is Grade II listed. A former coaching inn, it was built by an unknown architect in the early 19th century. It has a 1930s interior and an extensive garden.

Mortlake is a suburban district of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames on the south bank of the River Thames between Kew and Barnes. Historically it was part of Surrey and until 1965 was in the Municipal Borough of Barnes. For many centuries it had village status and extended far to the south, to include East Sheen and part of what is now Richmond Park. Its Stuart and Georgian history was economically one of malting, brewing, farming, watermen and the Mortlake Tapestry Works (1617–1704), Britain's most important producer. A London landmark, the former Mortlake Brewery or Stag Brewery, is on the edge of Mortlake. The Waterloo to Reading railway line runs through Mortlake, which has a pedestrianised riverside, two riverside pubs and a village green. The Boat Race finishes at Mortlake every March/April.

Mortlake railway station is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, in south London, and is in Travelcard Zone 3. It is 8 miles 21 chains (13.3 km) down the line from London Waterloo. The station and all trains serving it are operated by South Western Railway. Postal district and boundary changes over many years mean that Mortlake now serves the area known as East Sheen as well as the area of Mortlake, both of which share the SW14 postcode. Mortlake is the closest station to the finish of the Oxford-Cambridge University Boat Race.

St Leonard's Court is a four-storey block of flats on Palmers Road, off St Leonard's Road in East Sheen, London SW14 in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, 0.2 miles from Mortlake railway station. It was constructed between 1934 and 1938 and is remarkable for its surviving underground air raid shelter, built in anticipation of the Second World War and now Grade II listed.

East Sheen Baptist Church is an evangelical church in East Sheen in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is affiliated to the London Baptist Association. The pastor is Rev Dr Louise Hearn. The church holds Sunday morning, and Sunday evening services. Mornings, 10:30am are family orientated with a kids club, Evenings, 6pm, are more reflective but still have a full sermon.).A mums and toddlers group is based in the church and hall and meets on Tuesday mornings during school term times. A youth club for 7 to 11 year-olds meets on Wednesday evenings. Tuesday pm Ladies Craft, Thursday morning Computer drop in and many more activities.

All Saints Church, East Sheen, is a church in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, located at the junction of East Sheen Avenue and Park Avenue in East Sheen. All Saints Church is a member of the Anglican Communion and the Church of England and the style of worship is Modern Catholic. There are three regular Sunday services at 8:00am, 10:00am and at midday.

East Sheen Lodge was an 18th-century house in East Sheen, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, on the west side of Sheen Lane, with grounds extending to Richmond Park. It was built around 1720. Its residents included Sir John Barber, Lord Mayor of London in 1732, and Rear Admiral William Fitzroy, whose large household is recorded in the 1851 census. James Stuart-Wortley bought the property in 1858, renamed it Wortley Lodge, and soon realised the potential of the land in East Sheen for development. Later residents included the 1st Duke of Fife and Princess Louise in 1889, and it was by a pond in the garden that her brother, the future George V, proposed to Queen Mary. It was also where the Duchess of Fife delivered her two daughters, Princesses Alexandra and Maud. In 1908 the property was up for sale, and described in an extensive brochure, and in 1912 Rear Admiral Horace Hood purchased the property, he died at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, and his wife continued to live in the Lodge until 1925. East Sheen Lodge was the last of the grand houses in East Sheen to be demolished. It survived until 1965, though it had been converted into apartments in 1925.

St Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church, Mortlake, is a Roman Catholic church in North Worple Way, Mortlake, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The church is dedicated to Jesus' companion Mary Magdalene. It is located just south of Mortlake High Street and the Anglican St Mary the Virgin Church. St Mary Magdalen's Catholic Primary School is just north of the churchyard. The church building, in Gothic Revival style, was designed by Gilbert Blount, architect to the first Archbishop of Westminster, Nicholas Wiseman, and dates from 1852.

The Mausoleum of Sir Richard and Lady Burton is a Grade II* listed tent-shaped mausoleum of Carrara marble and Forest of Dean stone in the churchyard of St Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church Mortlake in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It contains the tombs of the Victorian explorer Sir Richard Burton (1821–90), who took part in the search for the source of the River Nile and translated The Arabian Nights, and his wife Isabel, Lady Burton (1831–96), who designed it. The coffins of Sir Richard and Lady Burton can be seen through a glass panel at the rear of the tent, which can be accessed via a short fixed ladder. The inscription includes a commemorative sonnet by Justin Huntly McCarthy (1859–1936), who lived in Putney.The mausoleum was completed in time for Sir Richard's funeral at the church on 15 June 1891. It was restored in 1975 and, with the support of the Friends of Burton and the Environment Trust for Richmond upon Thames, in 2012–13. It is now maintained by Habitats & Heritage. Next to the lady chapel in the church there is a memorial stained-glass window to Burton, erected by his widow.

The rector is The Revd Canon Dr Ann Nickson. The building, on Mortlake High Street, London SW14, dates from 1543 and is Grade II* listed.
