Viry-Châtillon (French pronunciation: [viʁi ʃatijɔ̃] ) is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 20.9 km (13.0 mi) from the center of Paris.

Juvisy-sur-Orge (French pronunciation: [ʒyvizi syʁ ɔʁʒ] , literally Juvisy on Orge) is a commune in the Essonne department in Île-de-France in northern France. It is located 18 km south-east of Paris, a few kilometres south of Orly Airport. The site of the town has been occupied from ancient times; it is noted in Julius Caesar's book about the Gallic Wars. Centuries later, it became an important place under the French monarchy, as a royal hotel. It would also be used as a post relay, the first one on the road to Fontainebleau. It became a major road and railway junction in the 1840s after its railway station was built in 1840, and after 1893 was the first city surrounding Paris with a bridge crossing the river Seine. Most of the city was destroyed in April 1944 by an Allied bombing as the city was the only one surrounding Paris that had such a big railway station and had railway lines going to most of France's major cities. It was then rebuilt between 1945 and the 1970s. The city is today known for Gare de Juvisy, the fourth largest and most-frequented railway station in the Grand Paris.

During a survey in 2015, the station served 33,426,629 passengers in that year.From 2014 to 2019, the station received 97 million euros for restructuring works and to create an intermodal hub to facilitate transport changes in the station between the train lines and the 28 bus lines for their 70,000 travelers every day.In 2018, according to SNCF estimates, the station's annual attendance was 41,423,348, placing it as the seventh station in France in terms of number of passengers, and the number one station in France outside of intramural Paris; it is notably ahead of the Paris-Est and Lyon-Part-Dieu stations.

The observatory was established in Juvisy-sur-Orge in 1883 by the French astronomer and author Camille Flammarion. In March 2010, the structure was classified as a historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture. The observatory belongs to the Société astronomique de France.

It is located 19.1 km (11.9 mi) from the center of Paris in the département of Essonne. During the 2005 civil unrest in France, Savigny was the first city to implement a curfew. It is home to the Jean-Baptiste Corot High School, a twelfth-century château converted into a school and the former property of Marshal Davout. Inhabitants of Savigny-sur-Orge are known as Saviniens. Writer Patrick Erouart-Siad (born 1955 in Savigny) won the 1993 Prix Ève Delacroix of the Académie française. Louis-Nicolas Davout, a military commander under Napoleon, died in Savigny-sur-Orge, and one of the squares bears his name.
