Thorpe Marsh Green Energy Hub

Thorpe Marsh Nature Reserve is a 77-hectare (190-acre) nature reserve located south-west of Thorpe in Balne, north of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. The reserve is managed and maintained by a team of volunteers under the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust as well as Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.The reserve shares its name with the coal-fired power station which occupied the adjacent land prior to its closure in 1994 and the demolition of its remaining cooling towers in 2012. The site is on an area of lowland susceptible to flooding (floodplain) by the River Don, thus creating an area of marshland on which the reserve sits (hence the appended "marsh").

Thorpe in Balne is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It had a population of 176 at the 2001 census, increasing to 203 at the 2011 Census.A moated site with a chapel and a fishpond near the manor house is a Grade II* listed monument. The chapel once served as the village church. Another moated site in the civil parish is located at Tilts. Residents of Thorpe in Balne were asked to evacuate their homes during the 2019 United Kingdom floods.

Almholme is a hamlet in South Yorkshire, England. It was in the parish of Arksey, and is now in Bentley with Arksey unparished area. The term 'holme' relates to the hamlet being located in a low and level pasture near water; the River Don is to the east and to the north is Thorpe Marsh Nature Reserve.

Thorpe-in-Balne railway station was an unopened railway station on the Hull and Barnsley and Great Central Joint Railway. It was situated about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the village of Thorpe in Balne, South Yorkshire, England adjacent to the road and some 6 miles (10 km) north of Doncaster. Like the other stations on the line it was built ready to accept passenger trains with flanking platforms and facilities, however the passengers never came. Although it was built ready for the opening on 1 May 1916 the line only opened for goods traffic, particularly coal, it stayed that way all its working life. The structures remained in position until the early 1960s when they were demolished. The line saw very few passenger workings, all of them enthusiasts specials, the final one being the "Doncaster Decoy" on 5 October 1968.

The Ea Beck, also spelled Eaubeck or Eau Beck, is a small river in South Yorkshire, England, that flows eastwards into the River Don at Thorpe-in-Balne. The Environment Agency lists the beck as starting at South Elmsall, but mapping lists the beck with several names along its course. The beck has twice flooded areas and villages that it passes through in the 21st century.

Thorpe Marsh Power Station was a 1 GW coal-fired power station near Barnby Dun in South Yorkshire, England. The station was commissioned in 1963 and closed in 1994. In 2011, permission was given for the construction of a gas-fired power station on the site.

The North Doncaster Chord (also known as the Shaftholme Flyover) is a railway connection (chord) between the freight only lines between Hatfield & Stainforth railway station (the Skellow line) and the Askern branch line, in South Yorkshire, England. The line was built to allow heavy freight trains, mostly from the Port of Immingham, to access the power stations in the lower Aire Valley without the need for them to use the East Coast Main Line (ECML) and creating slower line speeds for faster passenger trains. The chord meant the creation of 2 miles (3.2 km) of new railway and the building of Shaftholme Viaduct, which straddles the East Coast Main Line.

Joan Croft Halt railway station was a small halt on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) situated by a level crossing at Joan Croft Junction in South Yorkshire, England. The junction gives access from the ECML to the Skellow line of the West Riding and Grimsby Railway and eventually to Hull, Immingham and Grimsby Docks.

Sandall railway station served the suburb of Kirk Sandall, South Yorkshire, England, from 1857 to 1859 on the Doncaster to Thorne section of the South Yorkshire Railway.

St Oswald's Church is a redundant Anglican church in Kirk Sandall, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

Bramwith (WR&G) railway station, which was named Barnby Dun on opening, believed to be 1872, due to its close proximity to the village of that name, took the name Bramwith, (from February 1882), from the village of Kirk Bramwith, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England although it was over two miles away. This was possibly to avoid confusion with the station rebuilt on the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway's straightened line between Doncaster and Thorne. The station was also closer to the village of Thorpe-in-Balne, to the north, than Kirk Bramwith. It was located at the level crossing near the junction of North Field Lane with Bramwith Lane, east of the River Don Navigation.The station was built by the West Riding and Grimsby Railway but this line (and so the station) never had a regular local passenger service. It was used by excursion passenger trains travelling between the West Riding Woollen District towns and Cleethorpes from opening until the early years of the 20th century, after which it continued as a goods station, traffic being mostly agricultural in nature. The station closed around 1933, but the line is still in use.

Shaftholme is a small hamlet in South Yorkshire, England, in the parish of Arksey that is located half a mile north of Bentley and two miles north of Doncaster.
