East River Houses

St. Lucy's Church is a former parish church of the Parish of St. Lucy, which operated under the authority of the Archdiocese of New York in the East Harlem section of the Borough of Manhattan in New York City. The parish address was 344 East 104th Street; the parochial school occupied 336 East 104th Street. The parish merged with St. Ann's Church in 2015, and Masses and other sacraments are no longer offered regularly at this church. The church was deconsecrated on June 30, 2017.

On June 28, 1880, a boiler aboard the steamboat Seawanhaka exploded while the boat was in the East River near Wards Island, New York City, setting the boat on fire and resulting in the deaths of 24 to 35 people. A coroner's jury found that although the boiler had passed inspection the prior March and should have been in good working condition, the loss of life was exacerbated by the poor discipline of the boat crew following the explosion.

The Wards Island Bridge, also known as the 103rd Street Footbridge, is a bridge crossing the Harlem River between Manhattan Island and Wards Island in the Manhattan borough of New York City that does not allow vehicular traffic. The vertical lift bridge has a total of twelve spans consisting of steel towers and girders. It carries only pedestrian and bicycle traffic. On the Manhattan side of the river, the bridge is located at East 103rd Street, between Exits 14 and 15 of the FDR Drive. The bridge is accessible from the East River Greenway and a pedestrian overpass across the FDR Drive to the East River Houses apartment complex in East Harlem. The bridge connects to the southwestern corner of Wards Island and provides access to the many playing fields and scenic waterfront of Randall's Island and Wards Island Parks. Wards Island Bridge is open to pedestrians and cyclists 24 hours a day, year-round. Prior to a 2010–2012 renovation, the bridge had only been available for use from April through October during the daytime.

The Metro North Plaza Houses are a public housing project owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). The housing complex is located between 1st and 2nd Avenues and East 101st and 102nd Streets in the Spanish Harlem part of the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan in New York. It has three buildings. Building I has 7 floors, Building II has 11 floors, and Building III has 8 floors.

Metropolitan Park is a former baseball ground located in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York. The ground was the part-time home to the New York Metropolitans of the American Association in 1884. The wooden ballpark was built a few blocks east and south from their first home, the original Polo Grounds, on a piece of land bounded by 109th Street (north), the Harlem River (east), 107th Street (south), and First Avenue (west). It was built a block east and north of the site of the Red House hotel and grounds, which had hosted trotting, cricket and baseball from 1833 until its demise in about 1867. The park had been built on a former dumping ground, a fact which contributed to its quick demise. It also suffered from the various swamp-related unpleasantries, such as mosquitoes, which had led to the shutdown of the Red House grounds. The Mets played their first game at Metropolitan Park on May 13, 1884, amid a degree of publicity. However, the park proved unsatisfactory, and was soon labeled "The Dump" by players and other observers (especially sports reporters working for the Brooklyn Eagle). The Mets returned to the Polo Grounds for games starting on July 17, 1884, except when the New York Giants were playing at home. The final Mets game played at Metropolitan Park was on August 23, 1884. The Mets then returned to their original Polo Grounds venue, in time to win the American Association pennant. The park continued to be used for occasional amateur baseball and football for a year or two after the Mets abandoned it. The block is now occupied by a complex of residential, commercial and school buildings.

The 105th Street station was a local station on the demolished IRT Second Avenue Line in Manhattan, New York City. It had three tracks and two side platforms. The next stop to the north was 111th Street. The next stop to the south was 99th Street. The station closed on June 11, 1940.

106th Street is a planned station along the IND Second Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. It would be located at the intersection of Second Avenue and 106th Street in East Harlem, Manhattan. Proposed since 1968, the station is expected to be built by 2027–2029 as part of Phase 2 of the Second Avenue Subway. When opened, it will initially be served by the Q train, with the T train providing service when Phase 3 of the line is built.

The 1199 Plaza is a housing project in East Harlem. Located on First Avenue, on the western bank of the East River, the 1199 Plaza consists of four 31-story towers, joined by mid-rise units which extend toward the riverbank. 1199 Plaza opened in 1974, as a low-to-middle income housing project. The 1199 Plaza traces its origin to the 1199 union, which consisted mainly of female lower-income hospital workers. The 1199 union members wanted housing that was safe, affordable, and socially inclusive. Hodne/Stageberg Partners, Inc served as the architects of the project, while Ruberoid supplied building materials. In the 1990s, the 1199 Plaza began offering housing for non-HUD applicants. A new title, East River Landing, was adopted. The 1199 Plaza has thus become a hybrid project, housing both middle-income and higher-income applicants, in addition to poorer residents. The 1199 Plaza has been described as a "city within a city", owing to its sheer scale and unique design.

Union Settlement is one of the oldest settlement houses in New York City, providing community-based services and programs that support the immigrant and low-income residents of East Harlem since 1895. It is East Harlem’s largest social service agency and serves 10,000 people annually through programs including early childhood education, youth services, senior services, adult education, mental health, small business development and community outreach.

St. Ann, The Personal School is a Catholic pre-kindergarten and K–8 school in Upper Manhattan, located in East Harlem at 314 East 110th Street, New York City. It was founded in 1926. The principal is Mrs. Teresa Letizia.

Metropolitan Hospital Center (MHC, also referred to as Metropolitan Hospital) is a hospital in East Harlem, New York City. It has been affiliated with New York Medical College since it was founded in 1875, representing the oldest partnership between a hospital and a private medical school in the United States.MHC is part of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), the largest municipal hospital and healthcare system in the country.
