Gayton, Northamptonshire

Gayton Manor House is a manor house in Gayton, England. It is a Grade I listed building in West Northamptonshire. The manor is mentioned in the reign of Henry II when it was in the possession of Bethune. He was succeeded by Baldwin of Bethune, who sold it, with the advowson of the church, to Ingelram, Lord of Fienles during the reign of Henry III in 1249. Ingelram obtained a licence to enclose Gayton Wood and include it into a park in 1259. The manor passed to Michael de Houghton of Northampton, who obtained a grant of free warren for himself and his heirs; and during the reign of Edward II, in 1316, Thomas Murdak and his wife, Scolastica de Meux, were certified to be lords of Gayton. From their descendants, the manor passed to the family of Trussell, and during the reign of Henry VI, in 1446, Robert Tanfield, levied a fine against it, together with the advowson of the church. Sir Francis Tanfield sold them in 1607 to Sir William Samwell, who died seized of them during the reign of Charles I in 1628. In 1751, they were again sold by Sir Thomas Samwell to Richard Kent. His son and successor of the same name disposed of the entire estate. The manor was purchased in 1755 by James Hawley, M.D., whose great-grandson, Sir Joseph Henry Hawley, the third baronet, was a subsequent proprietor. Certain lands were formerly in the possession of the family of De Gayton, and called "Gayton's Manor." Gayton was annexed to Grafton in 1541. The manor house, now reduced to a farmhouse, stands at the northern entrance to the village. The architectural style is that of the reigns of Elizabeth and James I.

Tiffield Pocket Park is a 2.6 hectare Local Nature Reserve north of Tiffield in West Northamptonshire. It is leased by a private owner to Tiffield Parish Council and managed by The Tiffield Pocketeers.This one kilometre long site is a footpath along a former railway line. The path is lined with trees and shrubs of blackthorn, hawthorn, crab-apple and ash, and a balancing pond next to the path has been restored, increasing biodiversity.There is access from the playing field off Eastcote Road (sometimes shown as Gayton Road).

Blisworth Rectory Farm Quarry is a 1.0-hectare (2.5-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Blisworth in Northamptonshire. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site exposes White Limestone dating to the Middle Jurassic Bathonian stage, around 165 million years ago. Common fossils are brachiopods, corals and gastropods, and there are also nautiloids and vertebrate teeth.The site is on private land with no public access.

The Blisworth Limestone Formation is a geological formation primarily consisting of limestone deposited during the Bathonian stage of the Middle Jurassic, found in the Jurassic ridge which extends north and south through England. It was laid down in the shallows of the Jurassic sea and is part of the more widely defined Great Oolite Group. It was previously known as the Great Oolite Limestone, White Limestone and the Snitterby Limestone Formation. It is the lateral equivalent of the White Limestone Formation From the Jurassic ridge it extends eastwards below the later deposits and in the North Sea terminology, it is part of the West Sole Group. Tiffield was a short-lived experimental railway station situated at the highest point of the Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction Railway which opened in 1869 to serve the Northamptonshire village of Tiffield, only to close two years later.

Tiffield is a village and civil parish in Northamptonshire, England, north of Towcester between the A5 road to its west and the A43 road to its east. The village's name origin is dubious. It has been suggested that the primary component of this obscure name could be 'meeting place', 'goat' or 'bee/swarm'. "Field" meant a piece of open land and the whole name could mean open land with or near to a meeting place.

Tiffield St. John the Baptist Church is a church in the small village of Tiffield in Northamptonshire, England. The church dates from around 1200, and is by far the oldest building in the village. It is situated in High Street South, next to the Reading Room, now known as the Church Room, as it is no longer used for reading. The vicar of Tiffield church (who is also the vicar of Pattishall, Gayton and Cold Higham) was Father Paul Broadbent until summer 2010. The church was restored and renewed in 1859 by Edmund Francis Law and later in 1873 by H C Vernon. The font is Norman.

Blisworth railway station was a junction station on the London and North Western Railway (today, the West Coast Main Line), the Northampton and Banbury Junction Railway, and the Northampton and Peterborough Railway. As well as providing interchange between the lines, the station served the village of Blisworth in Northamptonshire and its environs. The station was opened by the London and Birmingham Railway (L&BR) in 1838.

Eastcote is a small village in the shire county of Northamptonshire (Northants), England. It is about 7 miles (11.3 km) south-west of the county town of Northampton along Banbury Lane. It is close to the A5 road, the Roman Road known as Watling Street, about 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of Towcester. Prior to the opening in the 1959 of the M1 Motorway and the M6 Motorway a little later, the A5 was the main route by road from London to north Wales and north-west England.
