South Turton is an unparished area of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, in Greater Manchester, England. Historically the southern part of Turton, and within the Historic County of Lancashire, it lies on the southern slopes of the West Pennine Moors, and has a population of 25,067.South Turton was created in 1974 from the smaller urban area of the former Turton Urban District. This unparished area includes Bradshaw, Bromley Cross, Harwood, Dunscar, Eagley, and Egerton.

St Maxentius' Church is in Bradshaw, Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Walmsley, the archdeaconry of Bolton and the diocese of Manchester. Its benefice is united with those of five other local churches. Standing separately from the church is the tower of an earlier church. The present church is dedicated to Saint Maxentius, an obscure French saint, and is the only church in England with this dedication.

It gives its name to a larger electoral ward, which includes Eagley, Egerton, and Cox Green. Historically part of Lancashire, Bromley Cross lies on the southern edge of the West Pennine Moors. Bromley Cross railway station is on the Ribble Valley Line. In the 16th century, Arthur Bromley of Turton married Isabell Orrell, the granddaughter of the Lord of the manor of Turton. It is from this family the place derives its name. It is supposed that there may once have been an ancient cross in the locality, although no physical evidence of it has been found.Bromley Cross is a residential area, and in the 19th century was part of the township of Turton, and from 1898 part of Turton Urban District. The village of Bromley Cross grew in the 19th century in association with many factories and bleachworks, which used water power obtained from the Eagley Brook and its tributaries.In the northern area is the "Last Drop Village", a collection of old farmhouses and farmbuildings which were restored in the 1960s into a pub, restaurant, bistro, craft shops, hotel and conference centre.In 2002, youth workers discovered young people congregated in abandoned underground World War II air raid tunnels belonging to Eagley Mills. The tunnels have since been sealed.

Bolton St Catherine's Academy is a mixed Church of England all-through school. The school is located in the Breightmet area of Bolton in the English county of Greater Manchester.The school was formed in September 2009 from the merger of Withins School and Top o'th' Brow Primary School, both community schools administered by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council. Bolton St Catherine's Academy became part of The Bishop Fraser Trust in May 2018 alongside Canon Slade School and St James's CofE High School. www.thebishopfrasertrust.org.uk but coordinates with Bolton Council for admissions. The school offers Nursery, primary - double class entry per year, secondary - 160 per year, education for pupils aged 3 to 16. In 2012 Bolton St Catherine's Academy relocated from the two former school sites to a new campus on Stitch-Mi-Lane. The new campus also houses Firwood Special School, a community special school for pupils aged 11 – 16. BSCA work in partnership not only with Canon Slade School and St James's CofE High School, but also the Manchester Diocese, Bolton Council, Urban Outreach, NHS and local Churches - Christ Church, Kings Church and Bridge Church whom work closely with out Christian Youth Support Workers. The students at BSCA fundraise for 3 main charities - Urban Outreach, Comic/Sport Relief and Christian Aid.

The Jumbles Reservoir is a heavily modified, high alkalinity, shallow reservoir in North West England. It lies in Jumbles Country Park, in the valley of Bradshaw Brook, partly in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, and partly in Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire. It was opened on 11 March 1971 by Queen Elizabeth II for the then Bolton Corporation Waterworks (since privatisation the reservoir is now owned by United Utilities). The reservoir's original purpose was to guarantee water for the Croal-Irwell river system and the associated industries.At the most northernly point of the reservoir is an old disused quarry, (Jumbles Quarry) it is now flooded with water due to the presence of the reservoir therefore making it impossible to tell that it is even there! The name Jumbles appeared during the 19th century, it is a variation of dumbles; a northern term for a ravine like valley with wooded sides down which tumbles a fast flowing stream. This reservoir is also fed from the Wayoh and the Turton and Entwistle reservoirs.

Hall i' th' Wood railway station is the last stop before Bolton on the Northern Trains franchise's Ribble Valley Line into Blackburn and Clitheroe in England. The station opened by British Rail on 29 September 1986. It is located in the middle of a housing estate and forms an unofficial footpath between the two sides. In March 2008 work began on a new car park for the station.It takes its name from the nearby Hall i' th' Wood, now a museum which is within walking distance of the station.

Hall i' th' Wood is an early 16th-century manor house in Bolton in the historic county of Lancashire and the ceremonial county of Greater Manchester, England. It is a Grade I listed building and is currently used as a museum by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council. It was the manor house for the moiety of the Tonge with Haulgh township held by the Brownlows in the 16th century. The original building is timber framed and has a stone flagged roof; there were later additions to the house, built from stone, in 1591 and 1648. The name represents "Hall in the Wood' spoken in the local regional English dialect and is pronounced . The house was not used as a gentry house but rather given over to multiple occupation by families engaged in industry. Four (previously five) separate dwellings can be identified, each with its own entrance and staircase. One part was let to Samuel Crompton during the 18th century, where he designed and built the first spinning mule. About 1779, Crompton succeeded in producing a mule-jenny, a machine which spun yarn suitable for use in the manufacture of muslin. It was known as the muslin wheel or the Hall i' th' Wood wheel from the name of the house.Hall i' th' Wood was bought by William Lever (later Lord Leverhulme) in 1899 and was restored by Jonathan Simpson and Edward Ould. Lever gave the house to the Corporation of Bolton in 1900.An episode of the television programme Most Haunted was filmed in the hall in 2008.In Fisher's Drawing Room Scrap Book, 1833, is a poetical illustration by Letitia Elizabeth Landon to an engraving of a painting of the hall by William Linton. This dwells on the changes the hall has seen over the centuries.
