St Mary's Church, Cresswell

Cresswell railway station was a railway station located on the Stoke-Derby line at Cresswell, Staffordshire, England. It was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1848 and closed in 1966.The station was located near the Izaak Walton pub and had a substantial building and a small goods yard. It became the junction station for the Cheadle Branch Line in 1892. When the latter closed to passengers, the sidings remained in occasional use for another 20 years, mainly sand traffic from Cheadle.The level crossing was converted to automatic barrier operation in 1989, whereupon the signal box was demolished and the junction was lifted.There is no trace of the station today.

Cresswell is a hamlet in Staffordshire, England. It is approximately one mile SE of Blythe Bridge and has a population of approximately 300. From the 2011 census the population of this hamlet has been included with Draycott-in-the-Moors. The "Izaak Walton" public house and restaurant is named after the seventeenth-century fisherman Izaak Walton, whose book The Compleat Angler is still in publication today. Walton was born in Stafford, and legend has it that he fished in the River Blithe, which is near the pub. During the English Civil War Staffordshire saw a great deal of conflict. The local manor house Paynsley Hall was first held for Charles I, then garrisoned by Parliamentarian forces before being destroyed.Although it is still a rural area, the hamlet is the home of the Blythe Colour Works, which was established to produce under-glaze colours for the pottery industry. Cresswell is also the home of Blythe Cricket Club. Cresswell formerly had a railway station on the Crewe to Derby Line, but, although trains still pass through the hamlet, there are now no stations between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter. In the twentieth century there was also a short line from Cresswell to Cheadle (Cheadle Branch Line).

Draycott in the Moors is a village in Staffordshire, England. It is between Stoke on Trent and Uttoxeter near the River Blythe. It is two and a half miles from Cheadle.In 1851 the parish contained 518 inhabitants. Sir Edward Vavasour, Bart., was the lord of the manor.

Forsbrook is a village in Staffordshire, around three miles southwest of Cheadle and situated on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands. It is an old village and is mentioned in the Domesday Book, with the rather unflattering description as waste ground. The village derives its name from the Old English Fotes-broc - a brook or ditch. . The brook flowed through the village square, where it was crossed by a wooden pedestrian bridge and a ford for horses and vehicles, until it was culverted in 1932.

The station is owned by Network Rail and managed by East Midlands Railway. The full range of tickets for travel are purchased from the guard on the train at no extra cost. The station was opened on 7 August 1848 by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR). Until 1907 the spelling of the station name was Blyth Bridge. The station buildings were demolished in the early 1990s and today it is unstaffed. In 2010 it won East Midlands Trains' Best Small Station award.
