The Hollywood Subway, as it is most commonly known, officially the Belmont Tunnel, was a subway tunnel used by the interurban streetcars (the "Red Cars") of the Pacific Electric Railway. It ran from its northwest entrance in today's Westlake district to the Subway Terminal Building, in the Historic Core, the business and commercial center of the city from around the 1910s through the 1950s. The Subway Terminal was one of the Pacific Electric Railway’s two main hubs, the other being the Pacific Electric Building at 6th and Main. Numerous lines proceeded from the San Fernando Valley, Glendale, Santa Monica and Hollywood into the tunnel in Westlake and traveled southeast under Crown and Bunker Hill towards the Subway Terminal. The two-track tunnel, 1.045 miles (1.682 km) long, cut roughly eight miles (13 km) off rail travel through some of the most heavily congested areas in the United States. At its peak, this tunnel hosted 880 Red Cars per day, and served upwards of 20 million passengers a year. The tunnel's northwest entrance, the shed of what was formerly an electric substation, and the site of the former yard, are just downhill from 299 South Toluca Street, in Westlake. Together they form a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, the Belmont Tunnel / Toluca Substation and Yard. The monument site is bounded by 2nd Street and the Beverly Boulevard viaduct to the north, Lucas Avenue to the west, Emerald Street uphill to the south, and Toluca Street to the east. Currently, the Belmont Station Apartments stand in front of the tunnel entrance.

The Vista Hermosa Natural Park is an urban public park located in Echo Park, Los Angeles, immediately west of Civic Center, Los Angeles. Vista Hermosa Natural Park sits on a former oil field of 10.5 acres (4.2 ha), bounded by Toluca Street and West 1st Street, Los Angeles. The park includes walking trails, streams, meadows, oak savannahs, picnic grounds, a nature-themed playground, and a soccer field.The $15-million park was opened on July 19, 2008 and was the first to open in Downtown Los Angeles in over 100 years. The park is managed as a partnership among the Los Angeles Unified School District, the City of Los Angeles, and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA).

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, founded by Bob Baker and Alton Wood in 1963, is the oldest children's theater company in Los Angeles. In June 2009, the theater was designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. In early 2019, the theater moved to a new permanent home at 4949 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

Miguel Contreras Learning Complex (MCLC) is a high school in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. The school, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school is located at 322 South Lucas Avenue, just down Third Street from the LAUSD Board of Education headquarters building. It houses three Small Learning Communities (SLCs): The Academic Leadership Community (ALC), Social Justice, and Business & Tourism (B&T), which is the largest academy.The complex also holds a separate school called the Los Angeles School Of Global Studies, a New Tech Network school with a focus on project-based learning (PBL). LASGS currently holds an API score of 591.Contreras was named after Miguel Contreras, a labor union organizer.

Edward R. Roybal Learning Center, formerly known as Belmont Learning Center, the Vista Hermosa Learning Center, Central Los Angeles High School 11, is a secondary school and park located at 1200 Colton Street in the Westlake area of Los Angeles, California, United States.The school is part of LAUSD, and opened after years of controversy on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. Roybal has four Small Learning Communities: Academy for Social Work and Child Development (SWCD), Activists for Educational Empowerment (AEE), Business and Finance Academy (BFA), and Computer Science Academy (CSA). Each Academy has its own purpose and different techniques of teaching. BFA is more about involving students with the business atmosphere, SWCD trains students for jobs in the fields of social work and child development, CSA is about involving students with the computer atmosphere, and lastly, AEE provides their students with a sense of empowerment and helps them get involved.

The Los Angeles School of Global Studies (LASGS) is a high school located within the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex. LASGS opened in the fall of 2006 with only Freshman and Sophomore classes as one of four New Technology High Schools in the Los Angeles area. In the 2008–2009 school-year they reached their target and current capacity of 360 students in their first year with all four grade levels. New Tech Network schools promote the use of project-based learning and the team-teaching of courses. LASGS in particular has made a concerted effort to integrate those team-taught courses. Most notably all Humanities courses are taught in this model and although there are still come modifications being made to the Math and Science pairings, they are also team-taught and integrated at a far higher level than most other schools in the network. The GeoDesign course that is currently taught by Dina Mahmood, Geometry teacher, and David Brown, Design Media instructor, is another integrated, co-taught course offered to all students at LA Global Studies.

Area codes 213 and 323 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the U.S. state of California. They are assigned in an overlay complex to a numbering plan area (NPA) that comprises, roughly, the area of downtown Los Angeles City, as well as several southeast Los Angeles County cities, such as Bell and Huntington Park. Area code 213 was one of the original North American area codes of 1947 and 323 was created in an area code split of 213 on June 13, 1998. This was the fifth split of 213 and left it serving only downtown Los Angeles and immediately adjoining neighborhoods. In 2017, the two NPAs were recombined in the overlay. Area code 738 was selected as an additional overlay area code for activation starting in November 2024.

Los Angeles Center Studios, located in the Westlake District of Los Angeles, California, is a multipurpose facility in the former Unocal Center building (opened as Union Oil Center in April 1958) next to the 110 Freeway. Architect William Pereira designed what was the headquarters of Union Oil Company of California. The studio itself was opened in 1999, three years after Union Oil Company of California vacated the premises. The complex now includes six film production sound stages and areas available as theatres or for events. It is located near W. 6th Street and Beaudry Avenue; the main gate's address is 450 South Bixel Street. Most film and TV production facilities in the Los Angeles region are located either in suburbs of the city (such as Hollywood itself) or adjacent cities like Burbank and Culver City; Los Angeles Center Studios is one of the only facilities actually located near downtown L.A. The Los Angeles Center Studios is where many films and shows have been filmed. The office building has played roles in several movies and TV shows: in Cold Case, as the Philadelphia Police Department; in Numb3rs as the Los Angeles FBI field office; in TNT's Legends it houses the FBI's "Deep Cover Operations" (DCO) unit; and in Life as the "Bank of Los Angeles" (with that title on the south face of the tower in huge letters). It is also the external facade of the hospital in the movie Constantine.

American University Preparatory School (commonly referred to as AUP) is a private, for-profit, four-year, co-educational boarding and day college preparatory high school for grades 9-12 located in Los Angeles, California, at the center of downtown Los Angeles. Global Cinematography Institute (GCI) is a film school that teaches new emerging technologies and concepts in the field of cinematography. Founded by Yuri Neyman, ASC and Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC, the Global Cinematography Institute aims to prepare filmmakers to take advantage of on-going advances in digital and virtual cinematography technologies through a curriculum known as Expanded Cinematography.In 2021, GCI announced that they were deferring all sessions and stopped taking student applications, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
