Troutsdale is a narrow valley that lies on the south-eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park, in North Yorkshire, England. The water flowing through the valley, Troutsdale beck, feeds eastwards into the River Derwent at West Croft. The valley is 9 miles (14 km) west of Scarborough, and 10 miles (16 km) north east of Pickering.

Wykeham Forest is a 2,760-acre (1,115-hectare) woodland 6 miles (9.7 km) in the North York Moors National Park, near to Wykeham, west of Scarborough, England. The wood is a mixture of conifer and broadleaf trees, with some open ground and a Forestry Commission nursery. The wood was planted in stages between 1924 and 1987, with open land being purchased by the commission. Recreational activities such as walking, bicycling and horse-riding are undertaken in the forest.

St Peter's Church is an Anglican church in Darncombe-cum-Langdale End, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The building is a chapel of ease to St Helen and All Saints' Church, Wykeham. It was built in 1884, for Viscountess Downe, at a cost of £750. It is a Gothic Revival building, in the 13th century style. In the churchyard is a large cross, dedicated to G. C. Dawnay, who died in 1889. The church is a small, rectangular, stone building, with a nave, chancel and south porch. At the west end is a bellcote.

Darncombe-cum-Langdale End is a civil parish in the former Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 UK census, Darncombe-cum-Langdale End parish had a population of 42. The population remained at less than 100 according to the 2011 census. Details are included in the civil parish of Hackness. In June 2004, the village became the first location in Britain, to become home to a Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria monastery (St. Athanasius). The parish council is Hackness & Harwood Dale Group Parish Council which covers the six parishes of Broxa-cum-Troutsdale, Darncombe-cum-Langdale End, Hackness, Harwood Dale, Silpho and Suffield-cum-Everley.

The Moorcock Inn is a historic pub in Darncombe-cum-Langdale End, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The building was constructed as a farmhouse, although it also operated as a pub from an early date. Some sources claim it was built in 1640, but Historic England dates it to the late 18th century. It was named for a racehorse which won the Richmond Gold Cup three years in a row. The pub was extended in the 19th century, and again in the 20th century. From 1893 until 1989, it was operated by the Martindale family. It was restored in 1992, with the serving areas being extended. In 2014, its main room did not have a bar, with drinks instead being served at a hatch. It had a bar billiards table, and also possessed a tea room. The pub closed in 2020. The building has been grade II listed since 1987. The building is constructed of sandstone with stepped eaves and a pantile roof. The main block has two low storeys, two bays, with flanking single-storey extensions. On the front are two doorways, and the windows are sashes, mainly horizontal-sliding, those in the ground floor with tooled stone lintels, and in the upper floor the lintels are timber. Inside, there is a 19th-century range by Candler of Scarborough, and an early ladder stair to the loft.

According to the 2001 UK census, Broxa-cum-Troutsdale parish had a population of 44.The parish council is Hackness & Harwood Dale Group Parish Council which covers the six parishes of Broxa-cum-Troutsdale, Darncombe-cum-Langdale End, Hackness, Harwood Dale, Silpho and Suffield-cum-Everley.

Broxa is a village in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, within the North York Moors National Park. The village is 6.2 miles (10 km) west of Scarborough, at an elevation of 531 feet (162 m). The River Derwent is 1,600 feet (500 m) west of the village.Whilst some 12th century documents mention Broxa (in relation to land granted by the abbot of Whitby), the village was not listed in the Domesday Book. It is thought that it was included in the manor of Hackness. The name of the village derives from a personal name Broce, meaning the enclosure of Broce's people.To the north of the village is Broxa Forest, a 1,527 acres (618 ha) woodland maintained by Forestry England which has walking and cycling trails. The Moors to Sea Cycle route passes through the village and the forest.

Sawdon is a village in the civil parish of Brompton, in North Yorkshire, England, about 8 miles (13 km) west of Scarborough.The village lies 1.75 miles (3 km) north of Brompton, which is on the A170 road connecting Pickering with Scarborough. It lies at the northern edge of the Vale of Pickering with Hackness Forest and the North York Moors National Park directly to the north of the village.Sawdon was formerly a township in the parish of Brompton, in 1866 Sawdon became a separate civil parish, on 25 March 1886 the parish was abolished and merged with Brompton. In 1881 the parish had a population of 167. From 1974 to 2023 it was in the Scarborough district. Whilst the village is not mentioned specifically by name in the Domesday Book, its name is recorded as far back as 1290 as Saldene, which means Sallow Valley. However, the manor of Sawdon was included in the Domesday survey for the area in and around Brompton. No churches were built in the village, but in 1823, a Wesleyan chapel was erected on the main road through the settlement. This is now a private dwelling.From 2012 Sawdon Village Hall was selected as the site for fundraising events by the charity Astronomy Wise. These events see a large gathering of astronomers and visitors at the building throughout the year. Regular meetings usually take place on the second Friday of every month excluding the summer months.

Wydale Hall is a Christian Conference centre run by the Diocese of York. The house is located near Brompton-by-Sawdon in the foothills of the North York Moors National Park overlooking the Vale of Pickering. The Hall lies just off the A170, 8.5 miles from Scarborough. Nearby market towns also include Malton (15 miles), Pickering (10 miles), Thornton-le-Dale (7 miles) and Whitby (27 miles). The house dates back to the 18th century, when it was built as a three-storey gentleman's residence, and was extended and enlarged by the Cayley Family in the 19th century. The property was transferred to the York Diocesan Board of Finance in 1953 to serve as the retreat and conference centre for the diocese.

At the 2011 Census the population remained less than 100. Details are included in the civil parish of Suffield-cum-Everley. Wykeham is a small village and civil parish in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England, on the outskirts of Scarborough and the southern boundary of the North York Moors National Park. It consists of a main street adjacent to the only pub; The Downe Arms. It lies around 7 miles (11 km) away from Scarborough and surrounding villages include: East Ayton, West Ayton, Snainton, Hutton Buscel, Brompton and Ruston. It has a cricket ground also which is hidden away in a small turning off the main road. To the north of the village is Wykeham Forest, which covers over 1,114 acres (451 ha).According to the 2011 UK census, Wykeham parish had a population of 280, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 290. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated that population had remained static at 280.A nunnery was established at Wykeham between 1140 and 1160 that was located to the south east of the village. The Anglican church in the village is a grade II* listed building. St Helen's and All Saints Parish Church was built between 1853 and 1855 by William Butterfield. A primary school is tied to the church. Wykeham Church of England Primary School, which has a nominal capacity of 60 pupils, was rated Good by Ofsted in 2016.Charm Park, a Point-to-point racecourse is close by the village, as are the Wykeham Lakes.

All Saints' Church is the parish church of Wykeham, a village near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, a town in England. A chapel was built in Wykeham in 1321 by John de Wykeham, and dedicated to Saint Helen. The building fell into ruin, although the tower remained standing. A new church was built immediately to the north between 1853 and 1855, to a design by William Butterfield. Once the church was complete, he restored the tower of the old church, adding a spire, and altering it to serve as a lychgate for the new building. The church was grade II* listed in 1967, while the lychgate is grade II listed. The church is built of sandstone with slate roofs. It consists of a nave with a clerestory, north and south aisles, a south porch, a chancel, and an organ loft and vestry. At the west end are three buttresses and two two-light windows with Y-tracery, above which is a lancet window. The east window has three lights with pointed heads and a continuous hood mould. Inside, the pulpit, font and altar candlesticks were all designed by Butterfield, while the choir stalls, altar rails, litany desk and candelabra were designed in 1937 by Robert Thompson. The east window has stained glass by William Wailes. The lychgate is built of sandstone, and has three stages, diagonal buttresses, string courses, and a staircase extension to the north with a slate roof. In the bottom stage is an archway with a double-chamfered surround and a pointed head, a narrow window and a clock face on the middle stage, and louvred two-light bell openings. Above is an octagonal broach spire with lucarnes and a weathervane.
