Swinden is a village in the civil parish of Hellifield, in North Yorkshire, England. It is near Halton West and Nappa and about 7 miles north of Barnoldswick. The population was estimated at 20 in 2010.Swinden was historically a township in the ancient parish of Gisburn in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. It was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire in 1974. The civil parish was abolished on 1 April 2014 and amalgamated with the parish of Hellifield. From 1974 to 2023 it was in Craven district.

According to the census of 2001, the parish had a population of 76, however the United Kingdom Census 2011 grouped the parish with Newsholme and Paythorne (2001 pop. 50 and 95), giving a total of 253.The name Horton is a common one in England. It derives from Old English horu 'dirt' and tūn 'settlement, farm, estate', presumably meaning 'farm on muddy soil'. This example is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086. In the west of the parish in the Little Painley area, on high ground near the River Ribble, is the site of a Bronze Age Bowl barrow.Horton was once a township in the ancient parish of Gisburn, in the Staincliffe Wapentake of the West Riding of Yorkshire. This became a civil parish in 1866, forming part of the Bowland Rural District from 1894 to 1974. It has since become part of the Lancashire borough of Ribble Valley. Along with Rimington, Gisburn, Middop, Gisburn Forest, Paythorne and Newsholme, the parish forms the Gisburn, Rimington ward of Ribble Valley Borough Council.The Pennine Bridleway National Trail and Ribble Way pass through the parish.

The A59 is a major road in England which is around 109 miles (175 km) long and runs from Wallasey, Merseyside to York, North Yorkshire. The alignment formed part of the Trunk Roads Act 1936, being then designated as the A59. It is a key route connecting Merseyside at the M53 motorway to Yorkshire, passing through three counties and connecting to various major motorways. The road is a combination of historical routes combined with contemporary roads and a mixture of dual and single carriageway. Some sections of the A59 in Yorkshire closely follow the routes of Roman roads, some dating back to the Middle Ages as salt roads, whilst much of the A59 in Merseyside follows Victorian routes which are largely unchanged to the present day. Numerous bypasses have been constructed throughout the 20th century, one of the earliest being the Maghull bypass in the early 1930s, particularly where traffic through towns was congested. Portions of the route through Lancashire were proposed to be upgraded to motorway standard during the mid-20th century, latterly being downgraded to significant improvements then ultimately withdrawn from consideration. Sections of the road have previously been noted as being amongst the most dangerous in the country, particularly in Yorkshire, despite continued efforts to improve road safety.

Bracewell and Brogden is a civil parish in the West Craven area of the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 238, increasing slightly to 244 at the 2011 census. The parish includes Bracewell (at grid reference SD863485) and Brogden (at SD858472); historically, both were in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Otterburn (historically known as Otterburn-in-Craven) is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. It is at OS Grid Reference SD8857, near Airton, Calton and the A65. The village is 9 miles (14 km) north west of Skipton and 1.9 miles (3 km) east of Hellifield.At the 2011 census the population was less than 100, so the details are included in the civil parish of Airton.

Martons Both is a civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The civil parish is formed by the villages of East Marton and West Marton. According to the 2001 UK census, Martons Both parish had a population of 214, reducing marginally to 213 at the 2011 Census.

West Craven is an area in the east of Lancashire, England in the far northern part of the borough of Pendle. Historically the area was within the ancient county boundaries of Yorkshire and was administered as part of the Skipton Rural District of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. After 1974 and becoming part of the Pendle borough of Lancashire, the area that was formerly in the larger Craven area of the West Riding of Yorkshire has been known as West Craven owing to its cultural links with Yorkshire. There is a West Craven Area Committee for Parish Councils in the area.West Craven is also the name of a ward of Craven district in North Yorkshire, adjoining the West Craven area in Lancashire. The ward includes the parishes of Broughton, Carleton, Elslack, Martons Both and Thornton in Craven.
