The arrondissement of Marseille is an arrondissement of France in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It has 21 communes. Its population is 1,069,909 (2016), and its area is 683.2 km2 (263.8 sq mi).

The Hôtel Louvre et Paix (a.k.a. Hôtel de la Marine) is a historic building in Marseille, France. Dedicated in 1863 as a luxury hotel, it was used by the Kriegsmarine during World War II. It now houses city administration offices and a C&A store.

The Maison du Figaro is a historic building in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille in France. It was designed by architect Pierre Pavillon, and it was completed in 1675. It has been listed as an official historical monument since 1992.

The cours Saint-Louis is a street in Marseille, named after Louis of Toulouse (elder brother of Robert of Naples) rather than Saint Louis. It is the location of small pavilions to designs by Pascal Coste from which flowers are sold. Located just off a cross roads, with the route to Place Castellane (via Rue de Rome) leading off from one side, the route to Porte d'Aix and its triumphal arch, completed in 1839 (the route also passes near the library Bibliothèque de L’Alcazar) leading off from the opposite side, two routes leading towards the Old Port (one of which being the famous La Canebière built in 1666 by Louis XIV of France), a route towards Palais Longchamp (with a simple right turn onto the Canebèire), its close proximity to the famous daily vegetable market place of Noailles and an also with an opening at the back, which meets up with the beginning of the Rue d'Aubagne (which leads up to Notre Dame du Mont), Cours Saint-Louis forms a kind of unofficial central point both geographically and culturally of Marseille town centre itself. Apart from being in itself a historic place, it also features a few notable institutions such as the famous hat shop (La Chapellerie de Marseille), Toinou Coquillages, (A Sea Food and Shellfish restaurant established in 1956, highly respected by the people of Marseille), as well as the herbal Chemist shop La Pharmacie du Père Blaize, (established in 1815), being just a few steps away in nearby rue Méolan. Cours Saint-Louis is now easily accessible by a new section Tramway which runs directly through it.

The Théâtre de l'Alcazar was a famous theater - founded in the mid-19th century - located in the heart of Marseille's Bourse district, on Cours Belsunce, near the Canebière. Since the 1960s, the site has been gradually abandoned, and since 2004 has been home to a municipal library.

Belsunce (French pronunciation: ​[bɛlzœ̃s], locally [belˈzœ̃sə]; Basque: Beltzuntze) is a district near Canebière, central Marseille. Its name was given by Monseigneur Henri François Xavier de Belsunce de Castelmoron, who famously helped during the Great Plague of Marseille. Belsunce is a popular area from the "Centre Bourse" to the big shopping crentre of central Marseille. It includes the famous Alcazar, an old theatre that has been converted into a library.

The Hôtel Pesciolini is a hôtel particulier in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille, France. It has been listed as an official historical monument since March 8, 1929.

The Marseille History Museum (French: Musée d'Histoire de Marseille) is the local historical and archaeological museum of Marseille in France. When opened in 1983, it became one of the most significant museums for urban history in France, dedicated to exhibiting the major archaeological finds discovered after the site was excavated in 1967; at the same time the property was redeveloped commercially and the Centre Bourse shopping arcade constructed. The museum building is entered from within the centre, and opens out onto the "Jardin des Vestiges", an outdoor garden containing the stabilised archaeological remains; it includes classical ramparts, port buildings, and a necropolis.

La Canebière is a historic high street in the old quarter of Marseille, France.

The Palais de la Bourse is a building on the Canebière in Marseille, France. It houses the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie Marseille-Provence, as well as the Musée de la Marine et de l'Économie de Marseille.

The Jardin des Vestiges is a garden containing the archaeological remains of the ancient port of Marseille, France. The site is located in the 1st arrondissement, behind the shopping arcade in the Centre Bourse. Classified as a French historical monument, it was excavated archaeologically in 1967 and officially opened on 17 October 2009. The site was part of the ancient Greek city of Massalia. It includes parts of the ancient port and city walls, with remains of three square towers and a gateway dating back to the second or third century BC.

The 1st arrondissement of Marseille is one of the 16 arrondissements of Marseille. It is governed locally together with the 7th arrondissement, with which it forms the 1st sector of Marseille.
