Waunakee Community School District

Waunakee () is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was estimated at 16,165 in 2023. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Waunakee bills itself as "The Only Waunakee in the World".

Waunakee Community High School is a public high school located in Waunakee, Wisconsin. It is part of the Waunakee Community School District and part of the Badger Conference in athletics. The attendance area includes the village of Waunakee, most of the town of Westport, portions of the cities of Middleton and Madison, and portions of the towns of Dane, Springfield, and Vienna.

The Waunakee Railroad Depot is a small wooden depot of the Chicago and North Western Railway built in 1896 in Waunakee, Wisconsin. In 1978 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.The railroad is what made Waunakee. Before its arrival, the only thing on the village's site was the blacksmith shop of S.P. Martin. In the late 1860s the Chicago and North Western Railway decided to build a line connecting Madison to St. Paul. As the C&NW planned its route, George Fish and Louis Bacon, who owned land around what would become Waunakee, offered a strip of land for the right of way and $1500 in bonds. The railroad accepted their offer and Fish and Bacon profited when the little depot became a shipping point for the surrounding farmlands. A village grew around it, with stores, schools and churches.In 1896 (or 1892?) the original depot burned and the C&NW built the current depot in 1896. It is a one-story wooden building clad in drop-siding, with wide overhanging eaves supported by brackets, with carved bargeboards in some of the gable peaks.At the peak of rail shipping, sixty trains ran through Waunakee per day, with 14 of them carrying passengers. Passenger service ran until 1963 - freight until 1971.In the 1970s the depot was restored by the Waunakee Arts Council and others, and it was bought from the C&NW with a gift form Bob Reeve, a son of an early depot agent Hubert. Today the depot houses Waunakee's Chamber of Commerce.

Governor Nelson State Park is a 422-acre (171 ha) Wisconsin state park located outside of Waunakee, Wisconsin in the town of Westport on the north shore of Lake Mendota. It is named for former Wisconsin Governor Gaylord Nelson. On most days the Wisconsin State Capitol building can be seen in nearby Madison. Common activities include boating, fishing, picnicking and swimming. There is also a boat launch and a swimming area for pets. Away from the lake one can find restored prairie and savanna, effigy mounds, hiking trails and ski trails. Governor Nelson State Park is one of the few Wisconsin state parks that does not allow overnight camping.

Madison Country Day School is a nonsectarian, private day school in Dane County, Wisconsin for grades PreK through 12. The school has an enrollment of about 450 students. It is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). It is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that offers the IB Diploma Program to high school students. Madison Country Day School is informally known as "MCDS".

The Halvorson Mound Group is a group of Native American mounds in Yahara Heights County Park in Madison, Wisconsin. The group includes panther- and bear-shaped effigy mounds as well as an oval-shaped mound; a second panther mound and a linear mound were also once part of the site but were destroyed by farming. The remaining panther mound is a relatively large example at 228 feet (69 m) long. The mounds were built by Late Woodland people roughly between 800 and 1100 A.D. Charles E. Brown and Rev. F. A. Gilmore conducted the first survey of the mounds in 1911.The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 25, 1993.

Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC) is a juvenile psychiatric facility of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, located in the Lorenz Hall Annex on the grounds of the Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) in Madison, Wisconsin. It has space for 29 patients. The inmates at Mendota usually have anti-social personality disorders who do not feel empathy, guilt, nor remorse. It uses the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center Program. The impetus for the facility's creation was an increase in violent crime perpetrated by minors. It was established in 1995 by two psychologists, Michael Caldwell and Greg Van Rybroek. It was deliberately staffed with psychologists instead of regular prison guards; while most facilities for delinquent and criminal youth are operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, MJTC is under the health services department instead.

WTLX (100.5 MHz "100.5 FM ESPN") is a commercial FM radio station, licensed to Monona, Wisconsin and serving the Madison metropolitan area. The station is owned by Good Karma Broadcasting, LLC, and runs a sports radio format as a network affiliate of ESPN Radio, sharing most programming with Milwaukee based WKTI and WAUK identifying jointly on air as ESPN Wisconsin. Studios and offices were on North Pinckney Street in Madison for 5.5 years from mid-2016 to the end of 2021. Jason Wilde stated on December 21, 2021 during an episode of Wilde & Tausch that the show that day was the last show from that studio as the radio station was going to be moving to a new location. The transmitter is off Tower Road, using an antenna on the water tower at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison.

Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is a public psychiatric hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, United States, operated by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission. Portions of the facility are included in the Wisconsin Memorial Hospital Historic District, District #88002183. The Mendota State Hospital Mound Group (NRHP #74000076) and Farwell's Point Mound Group (NRHP #74000069) are also located at the facility.

Kingsley Corners is an unincorporated community in the town of Springfield, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located at the corner of Kingsley Road and Woodland Drive, just west of the Village of Waunakee. The community is named for Saxton P. Kingsley, who began farming in the area in 1856. The name has fallen out of use with people in the area.

The Robert M. Lamp Cottage, also known as Rocky Roost, was a summer cottage on a small island on Lake Mendota in Madison, Wisconsin. The cottage was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright for boyhood friend, Robert M. Lamp (1866–1916), for whom Wright also designed the Lamp House in Madison. There was a cottage on the island by 1893, and there is some disagreement on whether Wright had something to do with its construction. By the turn of the century, several cottages were constructed on the small island and it is known that in 1901–02, Wright tied the cottages together into one structure, which is the known cottage for Robert Lamp that appears in postcards and photographs. The cottage was a two-story tall building with horizontal siding and a wrap-around porch on the second floor. In 1902–03, a windmill was added on the island to bring water to the cottage. Evidence points toward the cottage burning in late 1934 to early 1935. According to Wright scholar, John O. Holzheuter, in "Frank Lloyd Wright designs for Robert Lamp": A search of newspapers and fire department records for Waunakee (the department that technically should have taken the call) proved fruitless for establishing a date ... Because no taxes were paid on the building for 1935, it can be deduced that the fire occurred after May 15, 1934 and before May 15, 1935. No physical evidence of the cottage or windmill remains.

Vienna is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,666 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated community of Norway Grove is located in the town.
