Flat Rock Playhouse is a professional, non-profit theatre located in the village of Flat Rock, NC known for quality productions of popular musicals, comedies, and dramas. In 1937, under the direction of Robroy Farquhar, a group of actors organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. Around 1940, the Vagabond players settled in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. In 1952, the group purchased an 8-acre area of land in the Village of Flat Rock, where the theatre is currently located. In 1961, the theatre was named the State Theatre of North Carolina by the North Carolina General Assembly.

St. John in the Wilderness (also known as St. John-in-the-Wilderness) is a historic church and cemetery in Flat Rock, North Carolina. It was the first Episcopal Church in Western North Carolina. A building from the 1850s is a contributing structure to Flat Rock Historic District, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, located at 81 Carl Sandburg Lane near Hendersonville in the village of Flat Rock, North Carolina, preserves Connemara, the home of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and writer Carl Sandburg. Though a Midwesterner, Sandburg and his family moved to this home in 1945 for the peace and solitude required for his writing and the more than 30 acres (120,000 m2) of pastureland required for his wife, Lilian, to raise her champion dairy goats. Sandburg spent the last twenty-two years of his life on this farm and published more than a third of his works while he resided here. The 264-acre site includes the Sandburg residence, the goat farm, sheds, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, 5 miles (8 km) of hiking trails on moderate to steep terrain, two small lakes, several ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, and an apple orchard. Visitors to the site can tour the Sandburg residence and visit the dairy barn housing Connemara Farms' goat herd, representing the three breeds of goats Lilian Sandburg raised. From mid-June until mid-August, live performances of Sandburg's Rootabaga Stories and excerpts from the Broadway play, The World of Carl Sandburg, are presented at the park amphitheater.

East Henderson High School is a public high school in East Flat Rock, North Carolina. The school was built in 1960. As of the 2016–2017 school year the student population was 905 with 64 classroom teachers. East Henderson High is part of the Henderson County Public Schools district. The school serves students in grades nine through twelve. The mascot is an eagle and the colors are green, white and unofficially, black. The school is located at 150 Eagle Pride Drive in East Flat Rock. It is commonly known as "East" by residents in Hendersonville/Flat Rock and surrounding areas.

Mary Mills Coxe House is a historic home located near Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Built about 1911, the house is a 2+1⁄2-story, Colonial Revival style frame dwelling with a pebbledash finish. It has a two-level side-gabled roof, a pedimented front dormer, and a rear gable ell. It features a one-story hip-roofed wraparound porch and porte-cochère. Also on the property is a non-contributing art studio building associated with the Flat Rock School of Art. In 1993 and 1994, the house was renovated for use as offices.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

The district encompasses 55 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site associated with estates centering on the ambitious summer houses of the prominent Charlestonians. The homes includes notable examples of Stick Style / Eastlake movement, Second Empire, and Gothic Revival residential architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, also known as Connemara (Rock Hill). Other notable estates include Mountain Lodge, Argyle, Beaumont, Tall Trees (Greenlawn), Many Pines, Chanteloupe, Teneriffe, Rutledge Cottage, Dunroy, Treholm-Rhett House home of George Trenholm, Kenmure (Glenroy), Vincennes (Elliott House) home of William Elliott, Sallie Parker House, Enchantment, Bonclarken (Heidleberg), Saluda Cottages (San Souci), Tranquility, and the Rhue House. Also located in the district is St. John-in-the-Wilderness church and rectory, the Old Post Office, Woodfield Inn (Farmer's Hotel), The Lowndes Place (State Theater of North Carolina).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973; its boundaries were adjusted in 2015.

Brookland is a historic home located near Flat Rock, Henderson County, North Carolina. It was built in 1836, and is a two-story, five-bay, double pile, transitional Federal / Greek Revival style roughcast frame dwelling. The house was updated with Colonial Revival inspired expansions and alterations introduced in the late-19th and early-20th century.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Blue Ridge is one of 58 community colleges of the North Carolina Community College System .
