La Ferrassie is an archaeological site in Savignac-de-Miremont, in the Dordogne department, France. The site, located in the Vézère valley, consists of a large and deep cave flanked by two rock shelters within a limestone cliff, under which there is a scree slope formation.

La Ferrassie 1 (LF1) is a male Neanderthal skeleton estimated to be 58–50,000 years old. It was discovered at the La Ferrassie site in France by Louis Capitan and Denis Peyrony in 1909. The skull is the most complete Neanderthal skull ever found. With a cranial capacity of 1641 cm3, it is the second largest hominid skull ever discovered, after Amud 1. The skull displays many of the "classic" examples of Neanderthal anatomy, including a low, sloping forehead and large nasal openings.The teeth are well preserved and the incisors are heavily worn down, suggesting they were used to hold objects. His leg and foot bones make it clear that Neanderthals walked upright like modern humans. However, additional bones were also discovered. Along with the skull; the scapulae, pelvis, hand, and foot remains were identified. The hand and foot had minor damage. The hands and fingers have been linked to rare conditions and the teeth have also been the subject matter to many human evolution theories. Nonetheless, the La Ferrassie 1 remains have proved to be beneficial in studying evolution over time. La Ferrassie 1, at the time of his death, was approximated to be 45 years old. This age would coincide with other Neanderthals who were considered elderly at this age. Some researchers have also used new technology to suggest a possible dating correction of La Ferrassie 1.

Cro-Magnon ( , US: ; French: Abri de Cro-Magnon French pronunciation: [kʁomaɲɔ̃]) is an Aurignacian (Upper Paleolithic) site, located in a rock shelter at Les Eyzies, a hamlet in the commune of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, Dordogne, southwestern France.Most notably, it is the site of the discovery of anatomically modern human remains, apparently buried at the site, dated to about 28,000 years ago. Because of its archeological importance, Abri de Cro-Magnon was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Prehistoric Sites and Decorated Caves of the Vézère Valley site.

Château de Campagne is a château in Dordogne, Aquitaine, France. Between the lavoir and the church is the entrance to the Chateau of Campagne. This splendid building was built in the 12th century and burnt down in the 15th century. The current building was built in the 15, 17 and 18th century. In 1970 the castle was given to the state by the Marquis de Campagne and in recent years it has been beautifully renovated. The castle is not open to visitors but its beautiful grounds have also been restored and improved and are free to visit. The grounds were originally laid out in the style of English Country gardens of the 19th century and contain some magnificent trees including huge redwoods and cedar trees. Recently the edges of a stream winding through the garden have been attractively planted and the walk along the stream and round the grounds is a treat. There is also a decorative vegetable garden and a labyrinth to explore in the gardens. The walk around the gardens and grounds offers views of all sides of the beautiful chateau with its decorative towers and roofs. The agricultural buildings of the castle have also been renovated and these are now used by the International Prehistory Centre. The park covers 6 hectares and opens onto a forest of 367 hectares part of which is a classified Biological Reserve.

Campagne (French pronunciation: [kɑ̃paɲ] ; Occitan: Campanha) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France.

L'Abri Pataud, or the Pataud Shelter in English, is a prehistoric site found in the middle of the village Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil in Dordogne, Aquitaine, southwestern France. The site includes human remains, stone tools, and early cultural artifacts made during the Upper Paleolithic, between approximately 47,000 and 17,000 years ago.

The National Museum of Prehistory (French: Musée national de Préhistoire) is a French institution founded in 1918 by Denis Peyrony in the commune of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac (now the commune of Les Eyzies), in the Dordogne. Officially inaugurated on September 30, 1923, it is housed in what was formerly the Château de Tayac, purchased for this purpose by the State in 1913. In 2004, a new museum, designed by Jean-Pierre Buffi, was inaugurated on the emblematic cliff face of Les Eyzies.
