Beech Hill Wood

The River Sprint is a river in Cumbria, England with its source high up on the south-facing side of Harter Fell. It flows into the River Kent just to the south of Burneside. The first two miles of the river is made up of a series of short flat sections interspersed by spectacular water falls, before it enters Longsleddale valley. When in Longsleddale, it begins to get wider as it is fed by a large number of streams (known as becks; a term derived from Old Norse). The River Sprint is the fastest rising river in England, and frequently floods in Longsleddale valley, making the road impassable. The river is spectacular at times of high flow, and is popular with canoeists and fishermen.

Longsleddale () is a valley and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England. It includes the hamlet of Sadgill. The parish has a population of 73. As the population taken at the 2011 Census was less than 100, details are maintained in the civil parish of Whitwell and Selside. The valley is bounded to the west by Kentmere Pike and Shipman Knotts, one arm of the Kentmere Horseshoe, and to the east by Sleddale Fell and its summits of Grey Crag and Tarn Crag; one of several Cumbrian hills named Great Howe is on the east of the valley above Sadgill. The River Sprint starts on the slopes of Harter Fell and Branstree, and flows south through the valley before joining the River Kent to the north of the town of Kendal. Half-way between Garnett Bridge and Sadgill, Ubarrow Hall is a mediaeval pele tower, reduced in height, adjoining a 17th-century farmhouse.

Potter Fell is a fell near the villages of Burneside and Staveley, Cumbria, England, reaching a maximum height of 1,400 feet (430 m) at Brunt Knott. Alfred Wainwright in his The Outlying Fells of Lakeland identifies four summits on Potter Fell: Brunt Knott, Ulgraves and two unnamed summits, all of which are thus recognised by the Database of British and Irish Hills. There are a number of tarns on the fell, including Gurnal Dubs and Potter Tarn.

Strickland Roger is a civil parish in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 544, decreasing at the 2011 census to 480. It lies north of Burneside and west of the A6 road, and is bordered by the parishes of Strickland Ketel to the south west, Nether Staveley and Kentmere to the west, Whitwell and Selside to the north, and Skelsmergh to the east.There are 16 listed buildings or structures in the parish, all at grade II.

Garnett Bridge is a hamlet in Cumbria, England, on the River Sprint. It is located three miles by foot southeast of Long Sleddale. It consists mainly of old mill cottages and Bobbin Mill and a quaint old bridge over the Sprint.

Sadgill is a hamlet in Longsleddale, Cumbria, England. It is a divided settlement, also containing Low Sadgill.

Cowan Head is a hamlet in Cumbria, England. It is on the River Kent upstream from Burneside.

The Bannisdale Horseshoe is an upland area in Cumbria, England, near the eastern boundary of the Lake District National Park, surrounding the valley of Bannisdale Beck, a tributary of the River Mint. It is described in the final chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland.Wainwright's clockwise walk visits Whiteside Pike at 1,302 feet (397 m), Todd Fell at 1,313 feet (400 m), Capplebarrow at 1,683 feet (513 m), a nameless summit at 1,819 feet (554 m) (identified in the Database of British and Irish Hills (DoBIH) as Swinklebank Crag), a further nameless summit at 1,771 feet (540 m) (identified in DoBIH as Ancrow Brow North), Long Crag at 1,602 feet (488 m), White Howe at 1,737 feet (529 m), a further nameless summit at 1,736 feet (529 m) (identified in DoBIH as The Forest) and Lamb Pasture at 1,205 feet (367 m). Wainwright describes Whiteside Pike as "a dark pyramid of heather and bracken and outcrops of rock: much the most attractive part of the horseshoe and worth a visit even if one goes no further."

Staveley Mill Yard is a former bobbin (spool) mill, which is now used for a variety of different local industries, shops and other commercial ventures. It is situated in the centre of the village of Staveley, Cumbria, just off the main street.

The River Gowan is a short river in Cumbria, running easterly through the village of Ings before joining the River Kent at Staveley.

Over Staveley is a civil parish in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. The parish comprises most of the village of Staveley north of the River Gowan, and areas of farmland and fell (including Brunt Knott) extending some 3 miles (5 km) north of the village. At the 2011 census it had a population of 437.The parish is within the Lake District National Park. It has a joint parish council with Hugill and Nether Staveley, formed in 2004 and called Staveley with Ings Parish Council.
