John's Grill is a historic restaurant in San Francisco, California at 63 Ellis Street. The restaurant is famous, in part, thanks to the novel The Maltese Falcon. On the climactic final night of the novel's plot, detective Sam Spade dines on chops, potatoes, and tomato at John's Grill after coming into possession of the falcon.

Hotel Union Square is located at 114 Powell Street in San Francisco, California. It was built in 1908, had a speakeasy in the basement during the Prohibition Era, and Dashiell Hammett was a patron.

The Flood Building is a 12-story highrise located at 870 Market Street on the corner of Powell Street in the downtown shopping district of San Francisco, California completed in 1904 and designed by Albert Pissis. Situated on Powell and Market streets, next to the Powell Street cable car turntable, Hallidie Plaza and the Powell Street BART Station entrance, it is one of the few structures that survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The site formerly housed Baldwin's Hotel and Theatre, which was destroyed by fire in 1898. It was later purchased by James L. Flood, who constructed the building as a tribute to his father, James Clair Flood (1826–1889, the Comstock Lode millionaire). In 2003, it was still owned by the Flood family.John King, the architecture critic of the San Francisco Chronicle, praised the Flood Building as "twelve stories of orderly pomp with a rounded prow that commands the corner of Powell and Market Streets ... Every detail is rooted and right, from the tall storefronts that beckon cable car daytrippers to the baroque cliff of the sandstone façade with its deep-chiseled windows and just enough ornamentation to enliven the mass rather than clutter the scene."

Bernstein's Fish Grotto was a popular restaurant in San Francisco, California, that operated from 1907 to 1981.

Opened in 1885, the structure served as a lecture and music hall, but soon housed a popular resident stock company, which included Maude Adams, under the management of the younger brother of David Belasco, Fred Belasco. The Alcazar Theatre was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. In 1911, another Alcazar Theatre opened one block to the west.

The flagship location on San Francisco's Market Street was a destination shopping location for decades, and several branch stores operated in the various suburbs of the Bay Area. The Emporium and its sister department store chains were acquired by Federated Department Stores in 1995, and many converted to Macy's locations.

Hallidie Plaza is a public square located at the entrance to Powell Street Station (the third-busiest BART station as of 2015) on Market Street in the Union Square area of downtown San Francisco, California, United States. Hallidie Plaza was designed jointly by Lawrence Halprin, John Carl Warnecke, and Mario Ciampi and opened in 1973. In 1997, a perforated stainless steel-screened elevator was added to provide access to the plaza and station for disabled people. Although Powell Street station is one of the busiest stations in the BART system, Hallidie Plaza is relatively underused and has been criticized for its isolation from Market.

Union Square/Market Street station is an under-construction underground light rail station of the San Francisco Municipal Railway's Muni Metro system, located at Union Square. Its construction is part of the Central Subway Project and it will be a future station on the T Third Street line. The station is scheduled to open for public service in October 2022.The station is located under Stockton Street between Geary Street and Market Street. The main entrance will be on Geary Street at the southeast corner of Union Square. The south end of the station will be connected to the mezzanine level of the existing Powell Street station outside fare control. An shared entrance to both stations on Stockton Street at Ellis Street, which was temporarily closed in 2014 for construction, was purchased from BART for one dollar.

The Westfield San Francisco Centre is an upscale shopping mall located in San Francisco, California, managed by the Westfield Group and co-owned by Westfield and Brookfield Asset Management. It is anchored by Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, and includes a Century Theatres multiplex and the Downtown Campus of San Francisco State University. It connects directly to the Powell Street station via an underground entrance on the concourse floor.

Powell Street station (often Powell station) is a combined BART and Muni Metro rapid transit station in the Market Street subway. Located under Market Street between 4th Street and 5th Street, it serves the Financial District neighborhood and surrounding areas. The three-level station has a large fare mezzanine level, with separate platform levels for Muni Metro and BART below. The fare mezzanine will also connect to the Union Square/Market Street station when it opens. The Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde cable car lines turn around at Powell and Market adjacent to the station and Hallidie Plaza. BART service at the station began on November 5, 1973, followed by Muni Metro service on February 18, 1980.

The Humboldt Bank Building is a 19-floor office building at 785 Market Street and Fourth Street in San Francisco, California. It was created by the Humboldt Savings Bank, with construction beginning in 1905. However, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake destroyed its initial construction phase. A new building was completed in 1908. The building consists granite, marble, and terra cotta tile facing over reinforced concrete and steel.
