It is the successor to Sylvania High School (1960–1976) and became Sylvania Northview in 1976 when a second high school in the district, Sylvania Southview, opened.

Founded 99 years ago in 1925, it has hosted the Dana Open on the LPGA Tour since 1989; the event began in 1984 as the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic.

The Dana Open, is a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour. It was founded 40 years ago in 1984 and has been played yearly, except in 1986 and 2011, in Sylvania, Ohio, a suburb northwest of Toledo. The tournament is televised by Golf Channel.
