Whittonstall

Hedley on the Hill is a village in Northumberland, west of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is located between the valley of the River Derwent, and the watershed to the River Tyne. Despite being close to a major city, Hedley is typically Northumbrian and rural in character. Situated close to the villages of Stocksfield and Chopwell as well as to the rural market town of Hexham it is a small village with views across the Tyne valley.

Apperley Dene is a hamlet in Stocksfield parish, Northumberland, England. It is situated south of the River Tyne between Hexham and Newcastle upon Tyne.

New Ridley is a hamlet in the county of Northumberland, England. It is in the parish of Stocksfield and the parliamentary constituency of Hexham. It is one of four "Ridleys" in the parish, along with Old Ridley, East Ridley and Ridley Mill.Services in New Ridley include Stocksfield Golf Club and the Dr. Syntax public house. The pub is named after a racehorse of the same name which was in turn named after a fictional character created by the writer William Combe.

The Painshawfield, Batt House and Birches Nook Estate is a housing estate in the village of Stocksfield in Northumberland, England. It is commonly known as the Painshawfield Estate, being named after one of the three farms on whose land the Estate was built in the years following 1895.

Newlands is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Shotley Low Quarter, in the county of Northumberland, England. It is north of Ebchester and south of Whittonstall on the B6309, which follows the route of the ancient Roman road of Watling Street. It is situated north of the River Derwent (forming a border between County Durham and Northumberland). The nearest large settlement is Consett to the south west. In 1951 the parish had a population of 71. The hamlet consists mainly of a group of closely located farmhouses on a road called Fine Lane, west of and coming off the B6309. The derelict Marley Tiles factory sits on the B6309 itself, currently subject to a planing application for 109 homes.A second batch of houses and rental shalets known as Newlands Lodges sit at the point where the B6309 crosses the River Derwent and climbs Chare Bank into Ebchester where it meets and crosses the A694. Veering south west off Fine Lane and past local landmark, the Swinging Cat microbar, is a footpath running parallel to then crossing a stream known as Small Burn. Two waterfalls can be found on this stream. The first is hidden in the trees at the top of a gorge on the edge of Newlands (note this can be dangerous to access when the stream is in flood). The second can be found a further 150 m further on where the footpath crosses Small Burn over a stone bridge. The path crosses a further stream called Mere Burn with another small waterfall, before turning south then running south west adjacent to the River Derwent towards Shotley Bridge. For this reason, the path is known locally as The Way of the Waterfalls. Both streams join the River Derwent.

Mickley is a cluster of small settlements and former civil parish, now in the parish of Prudhoe, in the Tyne Valley, between Prudhoe and Stocksfield in the English county of Northumberland, England. It lies south of the River Tyne and is accessible via the A695. The electoral ward of Mickley comprises the hamlets of Mickley Square, West Mickley (including Mount Pleasant), High Mickley, plus Cherryburn and Eltringham Farm. The population is a little under one thousand. In 1951 the parish had a population of 1862.The Mickley settlements are served by St George's Church, which was built in 1830. Other facilities in Mickley include a garden centre, two social clubs, a deli and a cafe on the A695. There is a public house (The Blue Bell Inn), dating from the 1820s, at Mount Pleasant.

Hindley is a small hamlet, comprising around 20 residences. It is in the parish of Stocksfield and is just to the south of Stocksfield in Northumberland with Broomley to the west and Whittonstall to the east. It is south of the River Tyne. Hindley is composed of a large house, Hindley Hall (now split up into three houses and four flats), a farm (now converted into residences) and a post box.

West Mickley is a hamlet east of Stocksfield, in the southern part of Northumberland, England. Along with the neighbouring settlements of High Mickley and Mickley Square, it forms part of the electoral ward of Mickley, Northumberland. It is just over half a mile from the town of Prudhoe and is south of the River Tyne. It is not a big village, being nearly half a mile in length with a main road stretching the full length of it (A695). The small settlement of Mount Pleasant forms part of West Mickley. It has one of the few pubs in the area - the two-centuries-old Blue Bell Inn. On foot, Mount Pleasant is directly accessible from the main part of West Mickley via a steep but paved uphill path alongside High Close Woods and the Belasis Burn. When driving or cycling, however, one needs to take Stonybank Way, which goes uphill just east of the petrol station at Branch End in the neighbouring village of Stocksfield.

Branch End is part of the village of Stocksfield in Northumberland, England. It is situated at the junction of the A695 Main Road with New Ridley Road. It lies 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Stocksfield Station, between Hexham and Newcastle upon Tyne. Local services include a doctors' surgery, pharmacy, petrol station with associated shop and post office, two garages, a hairdresser, newsagent, children's play area and Quaker meeting house. There is a half hourly bus service to Hexham and Newcastle with Go North East "Tyne Valley 10".

Snods Edge is a small hamlet in South Northumberland, about 4 miles (6 km) from Consett. The name is thought to have derived from "snow's edge", referring to the hamlet's close proximity (about 5 km or 3 mi) to the North Pennines.

East Law is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north of Consett, near Ebchester.

St Andrew's Church, Shotley, is a redundant Anglican church standing in an isolated position at a height of 960 feet (293 m) on Greymare Hill in Northumberland, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building, and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
