Alma is a tugboat preserved as a museum ship and static exhibit at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum in Morro Bay, California. ''Alma'' was launched in 1927 in San Francisco by the Beviacqua Brothers Genoa Boat Works near Fisherman’s Wharf. Alma is a small harbor tug/line boat, built out of wood, with sawn oak frames and carvel planked in port-orford Cedar. The former owners of Sylvester’s Tug Service, the Kelsey family, donated Alma in 1995 to the museum. No longer in the tugboat business, the Kelsey family now operates the Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards near Avila Beach. From 2008 until 2016 restoration and conservation work was performed primarily by Morro Bay Maritime Museum co-founder and current curator Lawrence Newland with some volunteer assistance. Work was also performed by local craftsmen Dana McClish and David Anderson via a grant from the Hind Family Foundation. In June 2015 most of the conservation work was completed and the boat was moved to its present location as an outdoor exhibit. This was prior to the museum building opening in 2017. ' Before her 1995 retirement, Alma operated out of Morro Bay.

DSRV-2 Avalon was a Mystic-class deep-submergence rescue vehicle rated to dive up to 5,000 feet (1,500 m) to rescue submarine crews trapped deep under the sea. The submarine was acquired in response to the loss of the USS Thresher, so that the Navy would have a way to rescue trapped submarine crews. Avalon was launched in 1971. The submarine, intended to be air transportable, is 50 feet (15 m) long, 8 feet (2.4 m) in diameter, and weighs 37 tons. The sub is capable of descending to 5,000 feet (1,500 m) below the surface and could carry 24 passengers at a time in addition to her crew. Avalon is battery-powered, and would have needed to pause midway through a rescue mission to recharge its batteries.Avalon was stationed at North Island Naval Station in San Diego and was never required to conduct an actual rescue operation. The sub was decommissioned in 2000. The Avalon submarine was donated to the Morro Bay Maritime Museum in Morro Bay, California, and is currently on public display.

On 18 October 1587, the first Filipinos landed in what is now the Continental United States at Morro Bay. They arrived aboard the Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza, which had sailed from Portuguese Macau, as part of the Manila galleon trade. During about three days of travels ashore around Morro Bay, the crew of the Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza came in contact with the Chumash people, ultimately resulting in the deaths of two crew members: one Spaniard and one Filipino.Departing Morro Bay after the deaths of the crew members, the Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza eventually reached its intended destination of Acapulco. No other Filipino landed in California until 1595. In 1995, a monument on Morro Bay was dedicated to commemorate the events of 1587. October has been designated as Filipino American History Month since 2009 in recognition of these events.
