Haughton-McIver House

Gulf is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in southwestern Chatham County, North Carolina, United States, southeast of the town of Goldston. As of the 2010 census, the Gulf CDP had a population of 144. The community is home to a general store and several historic homes. It received its name from its location at a wide bend in the Deep River. Gulf is an interconnection point between the Norfolk Southern Railway and the Aberdeen, Carolina and Western Railway.

Marion Jasper Jordan Farm, also known as Jordan Place, is a historic home and farm located near Gulf, Chatham County, North Carolina. The main house was built about 1893, and is a large two-story Late Victorian / Queen Anne style frame dwelling. It has a two-story rear all. It features a nearly-full-facade, full-height two-tiered entry porch. Also on the property are the contributing wellhouse (c. 1900), flower house (c. 1900), blacksmith's shop (c. 1920), and caretaker's cottage (c. 1910).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Deep River Camelback Truss Bridge is a steel camelback truss resting on stone and concrete piers, with a macadam road surface covering a plank deck. It spans the Deep River in North Carolina, United States between the hamlets of Gulf in Chatham County and Cumnock in Lee County in a quiet rural setting amid woods and farmlands on both sides of the river. It was originally constructed in 1901. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge is open to pedestrian traffic only. Vehicles may use a replacement bridge located about a hundred yards east of the historic structure.

Cumnock, formerly known as Egypt, is an unincorporated community in northwestern Lee County, North Carolina, United States. It lies on Cumnock Road, about a mile north of U.S. Route 421. Endor Iron Furnace is located near the community. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The Deep River Camelback Truss Bridge was listed in 1995.

Big Buffalo Creek is a 20.28 mi (32.64 km) long 3rd order tributary to the Deep River in Lee County, North Carolina.

The Endor Iron Furnace was an iron furnace that operated from 1861–1864 and again from 1870–1871, near Cumnock, Lee County, North Carolina. It was constructed between 1862 and 1864 to take advantage of the iron deposits along the Deep River. The furnace is constructed of soft local reddish-gray stones and measures approximately 32 feet square at the base and rises to a height of about 35 feet. During the American Civil War, the furnace produced pig iron for the Confederate Army.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.In 2001, the property was acquired by the Triangle Land Conservancy.

Farmville is a community in southeastern Chatham County, North Carolina, United States, which was once called Coal Glen. The area was the site of coal mining activities from the 18th century up the mid-1950s, and was the site of the 1925 Coal Glen mine disaster. By the time of the 1925 disaster, the town consisted of several homes and a company store.The Deep River coal field, 12 miles (19 km) long, included the Coal Glen and Egypt (Cumnock) mines.A historical marker noting the mine disaster was dedicated June 3, 2017 at Farmville Community Church at U.S. 15-501 and Walter Bright Road north of Sanford.

William Alston Rives House is a historic home located near Goldston, Chatham County, North Carolina. It dates to the period 1825–1840, and is a two-story, three bay Georgian / Federal style frame dwelling. Also on the property are the contributing a small covered well, a board and batten shed, a tobacco barn, a larger barn, and the Rives family cemetery. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
