The Albert Brenner Glickman Family Library (formerly the Portland Campus Library) is an academic library operated by the University of Southern Maine on its campus in Portland, Maine. The building, which stands 7 stories tall, was dedicated by Governor Angus King in October 1997. It was named after the Glickman family following a $1 million donation to the university which added the top three floors to the structure.The library is home to a number of collections, including Osher Map Library on the first floor and the Maine Philanthropy Center on the third floor.During the fall semester of 2011, the second floor of the library and the bottom floor of the Gorham campus library were remodeled into learning commons area which sought to centralize resources for all students.

Oakhurst Dairy is a dairy company headquartered in Portland, Maine, United States. It produces primarily dairy products as well as juices. Founded in 1918, it made headlines in 2003 when it was sued by agribusiness giant Monsanto over Oakhurst's label on its milk cartons that said "Our farmer's pledge: no artificial hormones," referring to the use of bovine somatotropin (rBST), a drug that increases milk production and that Monsanto sells. Monsanto argued that the label implied that Oakhurst milk was superior to milk from cows treated with rBST, which harmed Monsanto's business. Oakhurst was sold to Dairy Farmers of America, a national milk marketing cooperative based in Kansas City, Missouri in January 2014.

Deering Oaks Park is a 55-acre (22 ha) public park in Portland, Maine, which has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a playground, and a pond. It is located west of downtown Portland and is bordered by Deering Avenue on the west, Forest Avenue on the east, Park Avenue to the south and Interstate 295 to the north. State Street bisects the park. Access is from State Street, Deering Avenue, or Park Avenue. The Portland Farmers' Market is located on the Park Avenue side of the park. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Portland Farmers Market is a farmers market in Portland, Maine, U.S., which has been in continuous operation since 1768. Since 1990, the market has been held place year-round. From May to November, it is held on Wednesdays in Monument Square and on Saturdays in Deering Oaks Park. From December to April, the winter market is held on Saturdays in the former Catherine McAuley High School building.

The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university with campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston in the U.S. state of Maine. It is the southernmost of the University of Maine System. It was founded as two separate state universities, Gorham Normal School and Portland University. The two universities, later known as Gorham State College and the University of Maine at Portland, were combined in 1970 to help streamline the public university system in Maine and eventually expanded by adding the Lewiston campus in 1988. The Portland Campus is home to the Edmund Muskie School of Public Service, the Bio Sciences Research Institute, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Osher Map Library, and the USM School of Business. The Gorham campus, much more residential, is home to the School of Education and Human Development and the School of Music. As of 2021, USM had 5,950 undergraduate students and 1,750 graduate students, with a student-faculty ratio of 13:3.

The Back Cove South Storage Facility will be the result of a large construction project begun in 2020 in the Back Cove neighborhood of Portland, Maine. Centered on Back Cove Park, between Preble Street to the southwest, Franklin Street to the northeast and Interstate 295 to the southeast, the project—a combined sewer and stormwater overflow (or CSO)—is estimated to cost $40 million, and is the city's largest such project to date. It is designed to reduce combined sewage overflow into both Back Cove and Portland's harbor by 40%. Currently, after heavy rainfall, storm water mixes with sewage and discharges into Casco Bay. Four concrete tanks, with a total capacity of 3.5 million gallons, will be installed below ground. The soil removed from Back Cove Park will be used to raise the area's elevation, and the soccer fields and access to the Back Cove Trail—which were both demolished as part of the construction—will be restored. The Back Cove West Storage Conduit, which was installed beside Baxter Boulevard on the western side of Back Cove, was also part of the project, which is being undertaken by Sargent. The final piece of box conduit was installed in October 2022. The South Storage Facility is Portland's third storage conduit installed at Back Cove. In 2013, the city had built two conduits, each capable of capturing one million gallons of sewer and stormwater to prevent overflow from entering the cove. These were installed in Payson Park and under Baxter Boulevard. A fourth project, to include a 2.25-million-gallon storage conduit is also planned.

The Portland Main Post Office is located at 125 Forest Avenue in the Parkside neighborhood of Portland, Maine. The building in which it is located, now shared with other businesses, was built in 1932 to a design by noted Maine architects John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens and enlarged in 1967. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 for its Colonial Revival architecture.

The Deering Estate Barn was an architecturally significant building on the campus of the University of Maine at Portland, now the University of Southern Maine (USM), in Portland, Maine. Built about 1805 (along with a mansion) to a design by Alexander Parris, it was remodeled to plans by John Calvin Stevens II when the estate was taken over by Portland Junior College in 1947. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in August 1969, and demolished that same month over the protests of the university community.

Helen M. King Middle School is an expeditionary learning public middle school located in Portland, Maine and administered by the Portland Public Schools. The school's current principal is Caitlin LeClair. It is cited as one of the most racially diverse in the state of Maine: the student body totals 550, represents 22 countries and 29 languages. The school teaches from sixth to eighth grade and has 55 teachers. The school operates without a bell system and emphasizes flexibility.In 2007, King became the first middle school in the United States to offer birth control pills to 7th- and 8th-grade students. The pills are offered with parents' permission and the policy was enacted following a spate of pregnancies at the school. The Portland School Committee voted 7–2 to enact the policy.In 2010, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan visited and toured the school, calling it "innovative" for being able to set high expectations for its culturally and economically diverse students and for its use of expeditionary learning.In May 2013, King Middle School was profiled by PBS NewsHour for an "unusually comprehensive science curriculum that emphasizes problem-solving".In 2015, Hillary Clinton made an appearance at the school to promote her presidential campaign.

James J. Fitzpatrick Stadium is a 6,000 seat multi-purpose outdoor stadium in Portland, Maine, United States. It is located between Interstate 295, Hadlock Field baseball stadium, King Middle School, and the Portland Exposition Building. It is located across the street from Deering Oaks. Formerly known as Portland Stadium, it was renamed in 1989 to honor James J. Fitzpatrick, one of the most respected figures in Maine athletic history.

The University of Maine School of Law Building is a former academic building in Portland, Maine. Adjacent to the University of Southern Maine's Portland campus, the 8 story building was designed by the local architectural firm of Wadsworth, Boston, Dimick, Mercer and Weatherill and completed in 1972 at a cost of $2.7 million. It expanded in 1993 to include more space on the first floor to accommodate the law library. It is a rare example of Brutalist architecture in Maine. It was built to house the University of Maine School of Law, which had previously been located downtown at 68 High Street.In 2017, Architectural Digest named the building one of the 8 ugliest in the United States and called it "a futuristic version of the Roman Colosseum." University employees described the building's architecture and design as "a joke but also a badge" and "rather unfortunate."In 2023, the Maine School of Law was relocated downtown to a former office building at 300 Fore Street. After 50 years, building no longer houses a law school. The University of Maine anticipates that the vacant law school will eventually be demolished, but there are no final plans to take the building down yet.
