Clifton Hill Shot Tower is an 80-metre (263 ft) tall shot tower on Clifton Hill in Melbourne, Australia. Clifton Hill Shot Tower was built beside Alexandra Parade (Then called Reilly Street) with its associated factory for Richard Hodgson in 1882 to manufacture lead shot and resembles a chimney. The tower was operated by the Coops family, who also managed Coops Shot Tower, now located within the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre. The shot tower is easily visible from both Alexandra Parade and the northern end of Hoddle Street. The shot tower is on the Victorian Heritage Register. Urban legend states that infamous Melbourne biker and gangster, 'Chopper' Read buried a body at the bottom of the Shot Tower, although this remains unproven. "The significance of the Clifton Hill Shot Tower was confirmed by two of the world's leading authorities on industrial heritage. One is Sir Neil Cossons, the founder of the Iron Bridge Museum and former chairman of English Heritage. Cossons is widely regarded as Britain's leading authority on industrial heritage and has advised on matters of conservation and management widely in the UK and overseas. This has included the nomination of Japanese industrial heritage sites that represent the emergence of industrial Japan, 1850-1910, to the World Heritage Register in 2014. He inspected the Clifton Hill shot tower with me on 1 May 2010, whilst undertaking a tour of industrial sites of Melbourne, and it was the highlight of his day. He has studied shot towers in many countries, and in his opinion, the Clifton Hill shot tower has the most distinctive design for a shot tower, due to its scale, design and patterned brickwork." W. B. Fox's Villa is a historic farmhouse built in 1867 in Clifton Hill, Victoria, Australia. It was also known as The House of the Gentle Bunyip, an intentional Christian community established by Athol Gill. In the 1990s, the building had fallen into disrepair and was planned to be demolished. Clifton Hill residents picketed the site for over 400 days, ultimately preventing its demolition. In 2008, the building was subsequently re-purposed as supported accommodation for people with schizophrenia. W.B. Fox's Villa is included in the statement of significance for the Clifton Hill West Precinct area in the Victorian Heritage Database.

The Smith St Hotel is a live music venue and pub located in Collingwood, Victoria. It opened in 1861 adjacent to the Fitzroy Gasworks as the Gasometer Hotel, known colloquially as The Gaso. Over its history, it has served as a hub for local musicians. Throughout the late 20th and 21st century, it went through several changes in ownership before closing most recently in February 2025. It reopened with its current name on 24 July, 2026. The building is a two storeyed stuccoed stone hotel on Smith Street, with a single storey section facing Alexandra Parade. In 2014, its yellow and black exterior was painted red.

Collingwood was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria from 1856 to 1958. The Fitzroy Gasworks was a coal gasification plant in Fitzroy, Victoria. It is notable as the site for the first arc-welded gasholder in the world.

The Easey Street murders, often simplified to just Easey Street, refer to the knife murders of two women in Collingwood, Victoria, Australia, an inner suburb of Melbourne, in January 1977. Described as "Victoria’s most brutal crime", the case remains unsolved despite a A$1 million reward being posted in 2017.

The Hoddle Street massacre was a mass shooting that occurred on the evening of Sunday, 9 August 1987, in Hoddle Street, Clifton Hill, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, in Australia. The shootings resulted in the deaths of seven people, and serious injury to 19 others. After a police chase lasting more than 30 minutes, 19-year-old former Australian Army officer cadet Julian Knight was caught in nearby Fitzroy North and arrested for the shootings. Knight was later sentenced to seven concurrent sentences of life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 27 years for what was described by the presiding judge as "one of the bloodiest massacres in Australian history". The Crown prosecutor, Joe Dickson QC, "did not contend that a minimum term should not be fixed". Knight currently resides in the maximum security Port Phillip Prison in Truganina, Victoria near Melbourne and was eligible for parole in 2014. Shortly before Knight became eligible for parole, the Victorian government amended the Corrections Act 1986 (Vic) to prevent the parole board from ordering Knight's release on parole "unless satisfied, amongst other things, that Mr Knight is in imminent danger of dying or is seriously incapacitated and that, as a result, he no longer has the physical ability to do harm to any person".

Backwoods Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, Australia. Founded in August 2010 the gallery exhibits Australian and international artists with a focus on urban contemporary art, street art and illustration. In December 2013, Complex magazine listed Backwoods Gallery in the top ten "Street Art Galleries You Should Know About".

The former United Kingdom Hotel is a historic pub in Clifton Hill, Victoria, Australia; that currently houses a McDonald's restaurant. Designed by James Wardrop in 1938, it is regarded as one of the best examples of jazz moderne architecture in Melbourne, and its current status as a McDonald's has lead it to be described as one of the "quirkiest" buildings on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Fitzroy High School is a school catering for Years 7 to 12, located in Falconer Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia. The school was first opened in 1915, but closed in 1992. After a long community campaign, it re-opened in 2004.

Fitzroy is a former railway station which was on a branch of the Inner Circle line in Melbourne, Australia. The branch ran through the Edinburgh Gardens, just east of the Brunswick Street Oval. The station was opened in 1888, but poor patronage led to its closure to passenger services in May 1892. The line was thereafter used only for goods trains, which lasted until 1981. The site is now occupied by a medium-density housing estate. The last remaining part of the station, a lengthy footbridge, was dismantled and relocated to the Mornington Railway, where it has been rebuilt and restored.

Clifton Hill railway station is the junction station for the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill, and it opened on 8 May 1888.Immediately to the north of the station, the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines diverge.
