Tate House (Tate, Georgia)

Tate Gymnasium is a historic building in Tate, Georgia built in 1923 to serve the local high school. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 12, 2002. It is located at 5600 Georgia 53 East.It was built by Col. Sam Tate, president of Georgia Marble Company, workers of that company, and other "community artisans", with all expenses paid by the Colonel and the Georgia Marble Company.

Tate is an unincorporated community in Pickens County, Georgia, United States. The Georgia Marble Company and Tate Historic District in Tate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district is centered on GA 53 between GA 5 and Long Swamp Creek. Tate's post office was originally called Marble Works by the United States Postal Service. The area was later known as Harnageville after Ambrose Harnage. The home of Ambrose Harnage was authorized by the Georgia General Assembly to be the first meeting place for county courts for Cherokee County when the county was first established, which functioned as a large territory rather than a true county during the State of Georgia's initial organization of the final Cherokee territory within the state. Elections for a full county government were held in 1832, and court was held at the Harnage house. Prior to that time many county government functions were administered by adjacent counties. In December 1832 Cherokee County was divided into seven other counties and the town was renamed Tate after Colonel Sam Tate in 1880. Other variant names for this place include Harnages, Harnage, and Tateville.

The Georgia Marble Company and Tate Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The district is centered on Georgia State Route 53 between Georgia State Route 5 and Long Swamp Creek, in or near Tate, Georgia. The main office of the Georgia Marble Company was built in 1884 in Mission Revival style. It includes the Tate House, which has four 22 feet (6.7 m) columns, and has marble balustrades and fountains designed by Georgia Marble Company designer J. B. Hill. The Tate House was separately listed on the National Register in 1974. The district also includes Late Gothic Revival architecture and Colonial Revival. It also includes the Tate Gymnasium, which was separately listed on the National Register in 2002. Also included: Tate Depot (built after 1900), on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad line Tate Methodist Church (1887), on Georgia Highway 53, a Gothic Revival-style church Methodist Episcopal Church South (c.1887), in Smoky Hollow, built to serve African American employees. Later the Miracle Pentecostal Fellowship Church. Later shared by the Marble Valley Friends and the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. The district's 550 acres (2.2 km2) include 106 contributing buildings, 15 contributing structures, and seven other contributing sites.

Pickens High School is a public high school in Jasper, Georgia, United States. It serves the communities of Jasper, Nelson, Talking Rock, and Tate. The school serves grades 9–12.

Griffeth-Pendley House is a historic property that includes a log dogtrot home, barn and shed in Jasper, Georgia. It was built by Caleb "Cale" Griffeth III who inherited the 110-acre property from his father Caleb Griffeth II in 1877. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 2008. It is located at 2198 Cove Road.

The Cagle House is a historic house in an area known as Cagletown, Jasper, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 20, 2002. It is located on Waleska Highway 108, approximately 1+1⁄2 miles west of Georgia 5/515. It was built c. 1872 as an I-house by Peter Cagle, the younger (b. 1844) and wife, Martha Emeline Carpenter with the assistance of Peter's brothers and their father, Martin. It was modified in the 1930s. It was moved about 75 feet (23 m) back from the road in the 1980s, restoring setback lost when the road was widened.

Ball Ground is a city in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. The city was originally Cherokee territory before they were removed from the land and it was given to white settlers. A railroad was built in 1882 and a town was formed around the resulting railroad stop. The town was incorporated on January 1, 1883, and became an industrial-based economy largely centered around its marble industry until around the mid-20th century when the industries began to leave and the city started to decline. From 2000 onwards the city saw rapid growth; as of the 2020 census the city had a population of 2,560, which is over three times the city's population of 730 in 2000.

Appalachian Technical College was a technical college within the Technical College System of Georgia. Its main campus was in Jasper, and its satellite campus was in Woodstock. The Fannin campus at Epworth (on Georgia 5 northwest of Blue Ridge and south of McCaysville) was previously closed. Appalachian Tech started as Pickens Area Vocational-Technical School with 22 staff members and nine areas of study on August 14, 1967. In 1988, the college became a part of Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, and the name was changed to Pickens Technical Institute. In 1999, it was given its current name effective July 1, for being in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, end expanding into nearby counties in Georgia. Appalachian Tech eventually offered over 50 associate degree, diploma, and technical certification programs. Beginning with summer quarter 2009, the school fully merged into Chattahoochee Technical College along with North Metro Technical College on July 1 (the first day of fiscal year 2010), for a total of eight campuses. It remains the Appalachian Campus of Chattahoochee Technical College

Pickens County Courthouse is a historic courthouse in Jasper, Georgia, the county seat of Pickens County, Georgia. It was designed by Bothwell & Nash and built in 1949. The exterior includes marble from Tate, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 29, 2008. It is located at 50 North Main Street.

Pickens County Jail is a historic jail building in Jasper, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 12, 1984. It is located on North Main Street. It was designed by Atlanta architect James W. Golucke. Jail cells were provided by Pauly Jail Company of St. Louis, Missouri. It is a two-story, brick and marble building. Its marble facade, marble porch columns, and turrets are done in a rusticated style. It was deemed notable as a county jail building somewhat unusual for its incorporation of local marble into its construction.

The Pickens County School District is a public school district in Pickens County, Georgia, United States, based in Jasper. It is the sole school district of the county, and serves the communities of Jasper, Talking Rock, Tate, and the Pickens County portion of Nelson.

Jasper is a city in Pickens County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,084 in 2020. The city is the county seat of Pickens County.
