Borgercompagnie (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌbɔrɣərkɔmpɑˈɲi]; Gronings: Börkomnij [ˈbœːkɔmˌnɛːi̯]) is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It consists of a single street with farms and houses on both sides. The village is about 7 km long. The north end lies close to Sappemeer in the municipality of Midden-Groningen, and the south end lies in the municipality of Veendam.The village was founded in 1647 by the Burger Compagnie (Citizen's Company) to exploit the peat. Borgercompagnie is a linear settlement along the canal. The northern section of the canal was filled up after 1940.In 2005, a manure fermentation factory opened in Borgercompagnie. It was originally hailed as a progressive company and received a stimulation prize. It processes 35,000 tons of manure a year, and is in ongoing dispute with their neighbours and the municipality of Veendam due to the stench.

Scholte (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsxɔltə]) was a railway stop (Dutch: stopplaats) in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. It was situated on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between the railway stations of Sappemeer Oost and Zuidbroek. It was in service for the employees of the company Scholten between 1933 and 1935.

Sappemeer Oost (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌsɑpəˈmeːr oːst]; abbreviation: Spm), previously named Borgercompagniesterweg (1887–1900), was an unstaffed railway station in Sappemeer in the Netherlands. It was located on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between Hoogezand-Sappemeer and Zuidbroek. Train services started on 1 January 1887 and have since been provided by Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (1887–1937), Nederlandse Spoorwegen (1938–2000), NoordNed (2000–2005), and Arriva (2005–present). There was a station building between 1891 and 1973, which was replaced by a shelter. The station was definitely closed in 2020. The station has two tracks and two platforms. Before the station was closed, there were three local train services with four trains per hour to and from Groningen, two trains to and from Veendam, and two trains to and from Bad Nieuweschans.

Menterwolde (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌmɛntərˈʋɔldə] ) is a former municipality in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. On January 1, 2018, Menterwolde merged with Hoogezand-Sappemeer and Slochteren, forming the municipality Midden-Groningen.

Zuidbroek (Dutch pronunciation: [zœydˈbruk]; Gronings: Zuudbrouk [zy(d)ˈbrɑʊ̯k]) is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Midden-Groningen, about 6 km north of Veendam.

Muntendam is a village in the municipality of Midden-Groningen, in the Dutch province of Groningen. The village has a population of 4,635 (2021). Muntendam had been an independent parish since the Middle Ages, but until 1840 it was ecclesiastically part of Zuidbroek. From 1811 until 1990 it was a separate municipality, which boasted the title 'reddest (most socialist) municipality in the Netherlands', with a council of 11 containing 7 PvdA (Labour Party) members and 2 CPN (Communist Party) members. (However, nearby Reiderland had had a vast CPN majority since WWII, so the claim is rather too strong). When a new mayor had to be appointed in 1980 (at the time a municipality had no say in the matter), it was assumed that it would become a PvdA mayor as it had always been. However, the then minister of the interior, Hans Wiegel of the right-wing VVD, decided that this very left-wing part of the Netherlands needed a change and appointed a D66 (left of centre) mayor. This led to a cold reception and the first time a Dutch mayor was not officially inaugurated. Over time, however, people started to like him and when he moved to a bigger municipality there was even an action to keep him (to no avail). Not much later, the method of appointing a mayor in the Netherlands was changed, with the municipality putting up a request which is usually followed.

Zuidbroek (Dutch pronunciation: [zœydˈbruk]; abbreviation: Zb) is an unstaffed railway station in Zuidbroek in the Netherlands. It is located on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between Sappemeer Oost and Scheemda, and at the northern end of the Stadskanaal–Zuidbroek railway after Veendam in the province of Groningen. The station building was designed by Karel Hendrik van Brederode and completed in 1865. Train services started on 1 May 1868. The Noord-Nederlands Trein & Tram Museum has been housed in the station building since 2014. At the station are four tracks and three platforms. The three local train services are operated by Arriva. The one and only bus connection is operated by Qbuzz and Taxi de Grooth.

Noord-Nederlands Trein & Tram Museum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌnoːrt ˈneːdərlɑnts ˈtrɛin ɛn ˈtrɛm myˈzeːjʏm]; English: North Netherlands Train & Tram Museum) is a railway museum in Zuidbroek, Netherlands. It is situated in the 19th-century building of the Zuidbroek railway station.In 2011, the Province of Groningen provided a subsidy of 100,000 euro for the restoration of the station building and the exploitation of the museum. The museum was opened on 10 October 2014 by State Secretary for Infrastructure and the Environment, Wilma Mansveld. It had 1,517 visitors in 2014 and 3,868 visitors in 2015.The museum is a member of the Museumhuis Groningen (Museum House Groningen), an umbrella organization for museums and heritage institutions in the province of Groningen.

Windeweer is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen. It existed until 1821, when it was merged with Hoogezand. Since 2018, it is part of Midden-Groningen. The villages of Windeweer and Kiel have grown together and are nowadays known as Kiel-Windeweer. Windeweer is the southern part of the village.

Midden-Groningen (Gronings: Midden-Grunnen) is a municipality with a population of 60,953 in the province of Groningen, Netherlands. The municipality was formed by the merger of former municipalities of Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Slochteren and Menterwolde on 1 January 2018 in the context of the municipal redivision in the province of Groningen 2013–2018.The municipality consists of the following villages and hamlets: Borgercompagnie, Foxhol, Froombosch, Harkstede, Hellum, Hoogezand, Kiel-Windeweer, Kolham, Kropswolde, Luddeweer, Martenshoek, Meeden, Muntendam, Noordbroek, Overschild, Sappemeer, Scharmer, Schildwolde, Siddeburen, Slochteren, Steendam, Tjuchem, Tripscompagnie, Waterhuizen, Westerbroek, Woudbloem, Zuidbroek.The neighbourhood of Meerstad, which belonged to the former municipality of Slochteren, was added to the municipality of Groningen on 1 January 2017 and therefore did not participate in the merger.

De Langeleegte (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈlɑŋəleːxtə]) is a multi-use stadium in Veendam, Netherlands. It is currently not in use as it was the home stadium of SC Veendam which was dissolved in 2013. The stadium is able to hold 6,500 people and was built in 1954, with major renovations taking place in 1998.

Sappemeer (Dutch pronunciation: [sɑpəˈmeːr]) is a town in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Midden-Groningen to the east of Hoogezand. Sappemeer was a separate municipality until 1949, when it merged with Hoogezand. The village is the European headquarters of the Japanese Kikkoman Corporation, which began operations in 1997 and now produces over 400 million litres of soy sauce per annum at the site.Dutch physician and feminist Aletta Jacobs was born in the village. The Sappemeer Oost railway station is located in the village.
