The Ca' de Sass (Lombard name; literally "house of stone") is a monumental 19th century building in Milan, Italy, located close to the city centre, at numbers 6 and 8 of Via Monte di Pietà. It used to be the headquarters of Cariplo, a former Italian bank, now merged into Intesa Sanpaolo. The design of the building by architect Giuseppe Balzaretto, began in 1868. Balzaretto's design was largely inspired by the architecture of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, and by Renaissance bank buildings in general. Construction of the building was completed in 1872. The external walls of the buildings are rusticated, with mullions and terraces.

The Palazzo del Monte di Pietà, is a palazzo quattrocentesco in Milano, adapted in forme neoclassiche in the 18th century by Giuseppe Piermarini. Historically belonging to the Sestiere di Porta Nuova, it is located in Via Monte di Pietà no. 5, and was the seat of the Monte di Pietà di Milano.

San Giuseppe is a Baroque-style Roman Catholic church in Milan, region of Lombardy, Italy. Construction was begun in 1607 and completed in 1630. The architect was Francesco Maria Richini. The right side of the church overlooks Via Andegari, after a family with this name. It seems that the title of the street comes from the name of a family known as the "Andegardi" or "undegardi". The interior contains large altarpieces depicting the Marriage of St Joseph and the Virgin Mary by Melchiorre Gherardini; the Death of St Joseph by Giulio Cesare Procaccini; a Holy Family by Andrea Lanzani; and a St John the Baptist by Stefano Montalti.

Palazzo Arese-Bethlen was a neoclassical palazzo in Milan situated on what is now via Monte di Pietà 11. It was destroyed in 1943 following the bombing of Milan in World War II. The palazzo was constructed in 1828 by Francesco Teodoro Arese Lucini, designed by Pelagio Pelagi. The home was built in the centre of Milan, on the large garden of the monastery of Sant Agostino Neri. After the death of count Arese the palazzo was sold to the Hungarian Bethlen family. Because of its central location and vast gardens, the building and grounds were eventually subdivided and sold to developers. When the Bethlen family abandoned the palazzo, it was divided into smaller apartments until it was demolished by developers following damage sustained in the bombing of Milan in World War II, even if this only damaged the central part of the construction and not its wings.

Santa Maria alla Scala was a church built in the gothic style in Milan in 1381 and named in honour of Beatrice Regina della Scala, the wife of Bernabò Visconti who commissioned the building. The church was demolished in 1776 to make way for a new theatre which became known as Teatro alla Scala.

La Scala (UK: , US: , Italian: [la ˈskaːla]; abbreviation in Italian of the official name Teatro alla Scala [teˈaːtro alla ˈskaːla]) is a famous opera house in Milan, Italy. The theatre was inaugurated on 3 August 1778 and was originally known as the Nuovo Regio Ducale Teatro alla Scala (New Royal-Ducal Theatre alla Scala). The premiere performance was Antonio Salieri's Europa riconosciuta. Most of Italy's greatest operatic artists, and many of the finest singers from around the world, have appeared at La Scala. The theatre is regarded as one of the leading opera and ballet theatres globally. It is home to the La Scala Theatre Chorus, La Scala Theatre Ballet, La Scala Theatre Orchestra, and the Filarmonica della Scala orchestra. The theatre also has an associate school, known as the La Scala Theatre Academy (Italian: Accademia Teatro alla Scala), which offers professional training in music, dance, stagecraft, and stage management.

The Brera Observatory (Italian: Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera) is an astronomical observatory in the Brera district of Milan, Italy. It was built in the historic Palazzo Brera in 1764 by the Jesuit astronomer Roger Boscovich. Following the suppression of the Jesuits by Clement XIV on 21 July 1773, the palace and the observatory passed to the then rulers of northern Italy, the Austrian Habsburg dynasty. Following the independence of Italy in 1861, the observatory has been run by the Italian government. In 1862, the newly installed Italian government improved the observatory's facilities by commissioning a 218mm Merz Equatorial Refracting Telescope to the German constructor Georg Merz. In 1946 the observatory became part of the scientific institutions of the new born Italian Republic and since 2001 it has become part of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF). Astronomer Margherita Hack worked at the Observatory from 1954 to 1964, until she became Professor of the Institute of Physics at the Trieste University. Today the Observatory's staff consists of approximatively one hundred people. The research area covers a large range of fields from planets to stars, black holes, galaxies, gamma-ray bursts and cosmology. The Observatory is also active in the technological research applied to the astronomical instrumentation and it is one of the world leaders in the development of X-ray astronomy optics and light instrumentation for space missions.

La Scala Theatre Ballet School (Italian: Scuola di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala) is one of the leading classical ballet schools in the world and is the associate school of La Scala Theatre Ballet, an international ballet company based at La Scala in Milan, Italy. The school forms part of the theatre's Academy for Performing Arts.

The Museo Teatrale alla Scala is a theatrical museum and library attached to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. Although it has a particular focus on the history of opera and of that opera house, its scope extends to Italian theatrical history in general, and includes displays relating, for example, to the commedia dell'arte and to the famous stage actress Eleonora Duse. The museum, which is adjacent to the opera house in the Piazza della Scala, was opened on 8 March 1913 and was based on a large private collection which had been purchased at auction two years earlier, with funds raised both from government and private sources. The displays include costumes, set designs, autograph scores, and musical instruments of historical interest as well as paintings of musicians and actors, and a range of related paraphernalia including precious ceramic figures portraying characters from the commedia dell'arte, and board games which used to be played in the theatre's foyer. The Biblioteca Livia Simoni, the museum's library, is situated at the II floor of the Museum. It was formed in 1952 with 40,000 volumes donated by author and Corriere della Sera critic Renato Simoni; it is named in honour of his mother. Today it holds some 140,000 works related to theatre history, opera and ballet including librettos, periodicals and the correspondence of musicians, actors and dancers, as well as books.

Santa Maria in Brera was a church in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. It was built by the Humiliati between 1180 and 1229, given a marble façade and Gothic portal by Giovanni di Balduccio in the fourteenth century, and deconsecrated and partly demolished under Napoleonic rule in the early nineteenth century. The Napoleonic rooms of the Pinacoteca di Brera occupy the upper floor of what was the nave.

Palazzo Cusani is a 17th-century palace in Milano, remodelled a first time between 1712 and 1719 and a second time between 1775 and 1779. Historically belonging to the sestiere of Porta Nuova, it is located at via Brera 13–15.

The Monument to Francesco Hayez is a bronze sculpture on a plinth located in piazzetta Brera (a small park just south of the main facade of the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. The statue was commissioned in 1884, two years after the painter's death, from the sculptor Francesco Barzaghi, and inaugurated on 10 February 1890, on the seventh anniversary of his death. The plinth of the statue has two bas-reliefs in bronze depicting two of best known paintings: The Kiss and Le Veneziane (also known as La vendetta d'una rivale and one painting in the Revenge Triptych). Hayez is depicted standing in the act of painting with a brush. The inauguration was attended by Hayez's friends, Tranquillo Cremona and Luigi Bisi, and by Giuseppe Mongeri and the count Francesco Sebregondi, secretary of the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, as well as Hayez's widow, Angiolina Rossi. The main speech was given by the academy's president Emilio Visconti Venosta. Attending the ceremony were representatives from academies of Venice (Cavalieri Iacopo d'Andrea, professor of painting; Giacomo Franco, professor of architecture and director of the Royal Institute of Fine Arts; and Giuseppe Soranzo); Florence (Professor Camillo Boito); Turin (Professor Bartolomeo Giuliani); Bologna (engineer Solmi); Bergamo (Count Gianforte Suardi; and Rome (Senator Tullo Massarani and professor Giuseppe Bertini).
