Butterfly Creek is a wildlife facility located adjacent to Auckland Airport, Auckland, New Zealand. Situated on approximately 8 acres of land, it was initially established a walk-through butterfly garden (the butterfly house remaining the flagship attraction of the place) and has now expanded to having a number of both native and exotic animal species including two saltwater crocodiles (the only two of their species to be kept in New Zealand) named Goldie and Scar who were brought from Australia in 2009 after initially being removed from the wild by wildlife authorities after concerns for locals and livestock in the area. The park has become regarded as a secondary zoo for people living in the Auckland city region as-well as a tourist attraction for visiting domestic and international visitors due to its location near the airport. Another feature of the park stated to be a significant drawcard of visitation is lifelike replicas of extinct and mythical creatures such as the extinct moa bird of New Zealand, animatronic models of dinosaurs and models of some mythical creatures. These like the wildlife residence are exhibited throughout the gardens of the park.

Pukaki Lagoon, located in the suburb of Māngere, New Zealand, is one of the volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field. The lagoon, alongside Māngere Lagoon, Waitomokia, Crater Hill, Kohuora and Robertson Hill, is one of the volcanic features collectively referred to as Nga Tapuwae a Mataoho ("The Sacred Footprints of Mataoho"), referring to the deity in Tāmaki Māori myths who was involved in their creation.Pukaki Lagoon has a 600 m wide explosion crater, with a surrounding tuff ring. After an eruption about 65,000 yrs ago the crater filled with freshwater and became a lake. It was breached by the sea as sea-levels rose after the end of the last ice age about 8,000 yrs ago and became a tidal lagoon. This was dammed and drained and used as a speedway from 1929 into the 1930s (Henning's Speedway). It is now farmland.

Airport Oaks is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand, located north of the Auckland Airport boundaries. It is mainly commercial, with warehousing, some hotels and changes into residential towards the north. The suburb is in the Manukau ward, one of the thirteen administrative divisions of Auckland Council.

Auckland Airport (Māori: Taunga Rererangi o Tāmaki-Makaurau) (IATA: AKL, ICAO: NZAA) is the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand, with over 16 million passengers in the year ended August 2023. The airport is located near Māngere, a residential suburb, and Airport Oaks, a service-hub suburb 21 kilometres (13 mi) south of the Auckland city centre. It is a domestic and international hub for Air New Zealand, and the New Zealand hub of Jetstar. The airport is one of New Zealand's most important infrastructure assets, providing thousands of jobs for the region. It handled 71 per cent of New Zealand's international air passenger arrivals and departures in 2000. It is one of only two commercial airports in New Zealand that can handle Boeing 747 or Airbus A380 aircraft (the other being Christchurch). The airport has a single 3,535 m (11,598 ft) runway, 05R/23L, which is Cat IIIb capable (at a reduced rate of movements) in the 23L direction. It has a capacity of about 45 flight movements per hour, and is currently the busiest single-runway airport in Oceania. In November 2007 work began on a new northern runway, to be built in several stages and to be used mainly by smaller aircraft, freeing up capacity on the main runway. The project was delayed several times and as of 2023 no date has been announced for its completion. Auckland Int'l Airport currently covers 1,500 hectares (5.8 sq. miles) of airport property.Currently there are two terminals: International and Domestic. In 2023 the airport announced plans for all jet flights to use a single, expanded terminal, with turboprops continuing to use the domestic terminal.

The Pūkaki Creek, also known as the Pūkaki Inlet, is an estuarine river of the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows south from its sources in Māngere and Papatoetoe, entering into the Manukau Harbour. The creek is adjacent to Auckland Airport and Pūkaki Marae.

On 4 July 1966 an Air New Zealand Douglas DC-8-52 with the registration ZK-NZB crashed on takeoff on a routine training flight from Auckland International Airport killing 2 of the 5 crew on board.

Wiroa Island, also known as Kohia, is an island in Manukau Harbour, New Zealand. The island is located at the mouth of the Pūkaki Creek, directly southeast of Auckland Airport.

The Statue of Jean Batten is located outside Auckland International Airport, New Zealand, and honours the life of New Zealand aviator Jean Batten. The bronze statue is the work of Anthony Stones. It was unveiled on 5 October 1989 by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Paul Reeves. It depicts Batten holding flowers in her left arm and waving with her right.

Crater Hill is one of the volcanoes of the Auckland volcanic field, in New Zealand. It consists of an explosion crater about 600 metres (2,000 ft) wide, partly filled with water. The hill, alongside Māngere Lagoon, Waitomokia, Kohuora, Pukaki Lagoon and Robertson Hill, is one of the volcanic features collectively referred to as Nga Tapuwae a Mataoho ("The Sacred Footprints of Mataoho"), referring to the deity in Tāmaki Māori myths who was involved in their creation.Late in the eruption sequence lava welled up inside the explosion crater creating a lava lake. This lake began cooling on the surface and around the edge, creating a solid basalt crust. When the molten lava withdrew back down the volcano's throat, the crust surface collapsed, creating the island in the middle of the present lake, and some of the solid basalt was left around the inside walls of the crater marking the former level of the lava lake. Two lava caves – Selfs and Underground Press Lava Caves – exist beneath the remnant crust on the south side of the crater. Quarrying has removed the small scoria cone in the crater and some of the tuff ring on the northeast side. The Southwestern Motorway was cut through the northeast crater rim and a small explosion crater.

Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board is one of the 21 local boards of the Auckland Council, and is overseen by the council's Manukau ward councillors. The board is governed by seven board members elected at-large. The board's administrative area includes the suburbs Māngere Bridge, Māngere, Ōtāhuhu, and Favona, and covers areas south of the Manukau Harbour.

Māngere (Māori pronunciation: [ˈmaːŋɛɾɛ]) is a major suburb in South Auckland, New Zealand, located on mainly flat land on the northeastern shore of the Manukau Harbour, to the northwest of Manukau City Centre and 15 kilometres south of the Auckland city centre. It is the location of Auckland Airport, which lies close to the harbour's edge to the south of the suburb. The area has been inhabited by Tāmaki Māori since early periods of Māori history, including large-scale agricultural stonefields, such as Ihumātao, and Māngere Mountain, which was home to a fortified pā. Te Ākitai Waiohua communities in Māngere thrived in the 1840s and 1850s after the establishment of a Wesleyan Mission and extensive wheat farms, until the Invasion of the Waikato in 1863. Māngere remained a rural community until the mid-20th Century, when Māngere became one of the largest state housing developments in Auckland.

Manukau Rovers Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Auckland, New Zealand. The club was established in 1885 and is affiliated with the Auckland Rugby Football Union. In 1912, the club seceded to rugby league, although after a few years returned to rugby union. Since 1972, the club have been based at Williams Park in Māngere, fielding numerous senior and junior teams, catering to both men and women.
