Benning is a residential neighborhood located in Ward 7 of Northeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by East Capitol Street to the south, Minnesota Avenue to the west, and Benning Road (for which the neighborhood is named) on the north and east. It is served by the Benning Road station on the Blue and Silver Lines of the Washington Metro.

The Benning / Dorothy I. Height Neighborhood Library is a branch of the District of Columbia Public Library system, located in Benning, a neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C.

East River Heights is a residential and mixed use neighborhood located in Ward 7 of Washington, DC. It is considered the "downtown" area of the ward and has high walkability ratings. Its borders are East Capital Street, Minnesota Ave, Benning Road up to 41st Street. It is a neighborhood of retired and working people and many children. There is quite a bit of development occurring. The houses are small but have large yards. It is centrally located. It is located between the Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road stations on the Washington Metro. The neighborhood is considered a strong up and coming neighborhood, especially for young professionals in the area. Providing homes with yards makes it attractive to those who are considering starting a family. While maintaining its cultural identity, the neighborhood is making space for promising changes. Uber has invested in the community, operating one of their Greenlight hubs in the East River Park shopping center.

Friendship Collegiate Academy Public Charter School is a public high school in Washington, D.C. Established in 2000, the school serves students in grades 9-12 and is part of the Friendship Public Charter School network.

Minnesota Avenue is an island-platformed Washington Metro station in the Central Northeast/Mahaning Heights neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., United States. The station was opened on November 20, 1978, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Orange Line, the station is the last station East Of The River, and the last above ground station for westbound trains until East Falls Church; west of the station, trains cross over the Anacostia River, then curve over RFK Stadium parking lots before descending underground.

Benning Road is a major traveled street in Washington, D.C., and Prince George's County, Maryland.The street's western terminus is at the "Starburst intersection" in the northeast quadrant of the city at Bladensburg Road, Florida Avenue, Maryland Avenue, H Street and 15th Street. It passes over the Anacostia River via the Ethel Kennedy Bridge into the neighborhood of Benning. It continues southeast across East Capitol Street into the southeast quadrant, crossing Southern Avenue and the D.C.-Maryland boundary into Maryland, ending at an intersection with Marlboro Pike (a former alignment of Maryland Route 4).

Mayfair or Parkside-Mayfair is a residential neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., United States., on the eastern bank of the Anacostia River. It is bounded by Jay Street NE on the north, Foote Street on the south, Kenilworth Terrace and Anacostia Avenue on the west, and Kenilworth Avenue on the east. Mayfair is encircled by Jay Street and Hayes St., which met at the back of the neighborhood. Nearby schools include Neval Thomas Elementary, located on Anacostia Avenue, Cesar Chavez Public Charter School For Public Policy (Parkside middle and high school), located on Hayes Street NE, and just over the bridge crossing I-295, Friendship Collegiate Academy, Carter G. Woodson Campus.

The Benning Road Power Plant was a power plant owned by PEPCO and located in Washington, D.C. The 19-acre facility was built in 1906, and underwent several changes before being demolished in 2012. The facility was powered by coal until 1976, when it was converted to petroleum. By the early 2000s, the facility was capable of producing 550 megawatts of electricity and operated for an average of 10–15 days per year.

River Terrace is an urban cul-de-sac neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., on the eastern bank of the Anacostia River. River Terrace is Washington, DC's only planned unit development that has an unimpeded connection to and relationship with the Anacostia River. The 2010 U.S. Census reported that River Terrace has a total of 1,962 residents who live in 998 households. In addition to single-family row houses and semi-detached houses, the neighborhood has about 75 rental apartments in 7 low-rise multi-family buildings.River Terrace is bounded by DC Route 295 (also known as the Anacostia Freeway) to the east; Benning Road, NE to the north; the Anacostia River to the west; and East Capitol Street to the south. In addition to the residences, the neighborhood consists of River Terrace Park (part of the National Park Service's 11-mile shoreline Anacostia Park); the River Terrace Shopping Center; the Varick Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church; a U.S. Postal Service Carrier Annex; and the River Terrace Education Campus, which opened in the fall of 2015.

Fort Dupont is a residential neighborhood located in southeast Washington, D.C., east of the Anacostia River. It is bounded by East Capitol Street to the north, Fort Dupont Park to the south, Minnesota Avenue to the west, and Fort Chaplin Park to the east and northeast. Fort Dupont has a population of approximately 7,050.Fort Dupont is adjacent to Fort Dupont Park, the grounds of a Civil War-era fort that was constructed for the defense of Washington. Fort Dupont is a distinct neighborhood from the nearby Dupont Park, although both border the park and take their name from it.

Mayfair Mansions Apartments are historic structures in the Mayfair neighborhood of the Northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. The garden apartments were built between 1942 and 1946 and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Central Northeast, also sometimes called Mahaning Heights, is a small neighborhood located in Northeast Washington, D.C. with Fort Mahan Park at its center. It is bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the north, Benning Road to the south, the tracks of the Washington Metro and Minnesota Ave station to the west, and 44th Street NE to the east. It is home to the Friendship Collegiate Academy, a public charter high school. This neighborhood is part of Ward 7.
