Gombe or La Gombe is a municipality (commune) in the Lukunga district of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was formerly known as Kalina, after Lieutenant E. Kallina - an Austro-Hungarian soldier who volunteered in the Congo Free State. Gombe is bounded on the north by the Congo River and in the south by the Boulevard du 30 Juin. Gombe is both a residential area and Kinshasa's business district. Originally the place that housed colonial administrative offices, cités indigènes, neighborhoods meant for non-colonists, formed around the neighborhood.

Lukunga is an area of the capital city of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, comprising seven of the city-province's twenty-four administrative divisions—the communes of Barumbu, Gombe, Kinshasa, Kintambo, Lingwala, Mont Ngafula and Ngaliema. It is one of the four so-called districts of Kinshasa. These were the administrative divisions of Kinshasa during much of the Mobutu years (1965-1997) and around which a number of government systems and services are still organized. For instance, Lukunga makes up a fourteen-member National Assembly constituency designated as Kinshasa I. However, these districts are not part of Congo's territorial organization.The district takes its name from the Lukunga River. This is a critical source of water for the district, compromised by silting.

The Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo is the official representative of the Government in Rome to the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As of February 22, 2021, that office is vacant.

The Institut National de la Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) is the national medical research organization of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The responsible ministry is the Ministry of Scientific Research and Technology.The National Biomedical Research Institute (INRB) was founded in 1984, it is a 70,000 m² establishment. It has been a collaborating center of the World Health Organization since 2018, headed by Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe-Tamfum, MD, Ph., Which serves as a national biomedical research laboratory for the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) ). It is a multidisciplinary institute which collectively has hundreds of years of experience both in the identification, treatment and prevention of diseases in the DRC. Its foundations are the performance of medical and biological analyzes, applied and translational research, the surveillance of communicable diseases and the promotion of professional growth and development. The INRB has continuously developed and trained quality researchers and produced exceptional results, more recently concrete efforts in terms of control, prevention and research in the context of the current Ebola epidemic.He has continuously brought his expertise to the government of the DRC in the area of disease surveillance, prevention and intervention. In 30 years of existence, the INRB has quickly become recognized worldwide and has played an essential role in tropical health research. The establishment is a modern type structured research institute composed of six laboratories dedicated to Virology, Parasitology, Bacteriology, Medical Entomology, Clinical Biology and Pathology, including a Research Center on animals and a data center. Each laboratory is made up of a dedicated director and staff, including both students and international collaborators. Each laboratory has the basic equipment and the space necessary for optimal research. It is available to faculty, students, post-docs and staff from the periphery of the INRB. Due to the structure of the INRB if sharing and access to individual laboratory equipment is required, access is granted at the request and approval of the directors of these laboratories. The INRB common area includes some major equipment. All collaborators and researchers have, upon request, several -80 freezers, liquid nitrogen tanks, centrifuges, water baths, tissue homogenizers, vortexes, incubators, agitators; and all laboratories have access to cold chain equipment such as dry shippers and portable freezers.The INRB was founded in 1984, and has been a World Health Organization collaborating centre since 2018. The INRB and the World Health Organization have worked closely together in research into the effectiveness of the ring vaccination strategy in the 2018 Kivu Ebola outbreak.The National Biomedical Research Institute (INRB) has eight dynamic departments within it which participate in the various missions of the Institute, namely, monitoring, research and training. The departments work in inter-collaboration on several research themes. Each department has qualified staff and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Below is the list of the institute's departments: Pathology Laboratory, Clinical Biology Laboratory, Virology Laboratory, Parasitology Laboratory, clinical microbiology Laboratory, The immunology unit, The data center and The administration.The INRB is based at Avenue de la Démocratie (formerly the Avenue des Huileries), BP 1197 in Kinshasa-Gombe, DRC.

Kinshasa General Hospital is a hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Before the ousting of President Mobutu Sese Seko it was known as Mama Yemo Hospital after the president's mother. The 2000-bed hospital registers over 3,000 consultations daily. It was one of the first places where AIDS was observed.

The Boulevard du 30 Juin ("Boulevard of June 30th") is a major 5‑km street in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is the city center's main transport artery, connecting the southern area of La Gombe (Kinshasa's political and business district) with Kintambo and the Ngaliema to the west. In 1963 the street was renamed from Boulevard Albert I to Boulevard du 30 Juin following the Belgian Congo's independence from Belgium on June 30, 1960.Many national government offices are located on the Boulevard du 30 Juin, such as the Ministry of Communication, Ministry of Employment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Land Affairs, etc.

The Kinshasa Botanical Garden (French: Jardin botanique de Kinshasa), formerly known as the Fernand De Boeck Park, is a botanical garden located in Gombe, Kinshasa, in the western part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Covering seven hectares, It is strategically positioned opposite the Kinshasa Zoological Garden on Kasa-Vubu Avenue. The botanical garden houses a diverse collection of 286 plant species, including nurseries, a seed collection, an arboretum of native species, and a herbarium. Established in 1933, It is managed by the Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature; ICCN) and serves as a hub for environmental education activities, boasting over 100 arboreal species.

The Congo Trade Center is a skyscraper and shopping centre located in Gombe downtown Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Congo Trade Center has 18 floors. The building houses a 5-Star hotel, offices , Shopping mall, Banquet hall, Six restaurants and a Casino. The building configuration had been originally designed to comprise two car park basement floors, approximately 2,400m² in area, double floor height, double-level, Retail Space, approximately 1,200m² in area on Ground Floor, two public floors comprising spaces such as Hotel Lobbies, Front-Of-House (FOH) and Administration in Tower A, of approximately 5,000m², eleven 209-key, 5-star Hotel, amounting to 14,430m² area in Tower A and four hotel guestroom floors in Tower B with twelve office floors above).

The Hôtel Memling is a five-star hotel in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On 4 April 2011, Georgian Airways Flight 834, a Bombardier CRJ100 passenger jet of Georgian Airways operating a domestic flight from Kisangani to Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) crashed while attempting to land at Kinshasa Airport. The aircraft, which was chartered by the United Nations, was trying to land during a thunderstorm. Of the 33 people on board, only one person survived. It remains as United Nations' deadliest aviation disaster. It is also the third deadliest air disaster involving the CRJ100/200, behind Comair Flight 5191 and China Eastern Airlines Flight 5210.The government of the DRC set up an investigation commission to probe the crash. It concluded that the aircraft had encountered a microburst moments after initiating a go-around, causing it to rapidly lose its altitude. Even though the crew's weather radar had depicted severe weather activity around the airport, the crew didn't discontinue their flight to Kinshasa. Following the rapid altitude loss, the crew failed to recover the aircraft due to their very low altitude.

Boboto College (formerly Albert I College) is a private Catholic school run by the Society of Jesus in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was founded by the Belgian Jesuits in 1937.

Kinshasa Thermal Power Station, also Kinshasa Plastics Waste–To–Energy Plant, is a planned plastics-fired thermal power plant in the city of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an estimated population of 15 million inhabitants, as of August 2021. The waste-to-energy power station will, in the first phase, convert 200 tonnes of plastic waste everyday into "3,500 liters (770 imp gal; 925 U.S. gal) of industrial lubricants, 15,000 liters (3,300 imp gal; 3,963 U.S. gal) of diesel fuel, and three metric tonnes of char (solid carbon)" on a daily basis. In addition, it will in the process, generate 96 MWh of energy, on an annual basis. The power generated will be sold to the Congolese electricity utility company Société Nationale d'Électricité (SNEL), for intergradation into the national electricity grid.
