Deake's Wharf

Sturdivant's Wharf (formerly Robinson's Wharf) is a historic wharf in Portland, Maine, on the edge of the Fore River. It is located on Commercial Street between Holyoke Wharf (to the north) and Deake's Wharf (to the south). It stands across Commercial Street from Park Street.

Holyoke Wharf (formerly Dyer's Wharf) is a historic wharf in Portland, Maine, on the edge of the Fore River. It is located on Commercial Street between Berlin Mills Wharf (to the north) and Sturdivant's Wharf (to the south). At the head of the wharf formerly stood New England Cabinet Works, which was established in 1910 by Charles A. Hallen. It was originally named Johnson-Hallen Company. Gilbert Mills Soule, a lumber merchant, owned the wharf in the late 19th century. It later came under the ownership of the proprietors of Portland Pier at the other end of Commercial Street.

Berlin Mills Wharf is a historic wharf in Portland, Maine, on the edge of the Fore River. It is located on Commercial Street between Hobson's Wharf (to the north) and Holyoke Wharf (to the south). It is located across Commercial Street from High Street. Berlin Mills Company (started as H. Winslow & Company in 1852) was a lumber company with a planing mill. The wharf was purchased in 2019 by Christopher DiMillo.

Hobson's Wharf (formerly known as Sawyer's Wharf) is a historic wharf in Portland, Maine, on the edge of the Fore River. It is located on Commercial Street between Wright Wharf (to the north) and Berlin Mills Wharf (to the south). It is located across Commercial Street from High Street. Becky's Diner has stood at the head of the wharf since its establishment in 1991.

The great fire of Portland, Maine, sometimes known as the 1866 great fire of Portland, occurred on July 4, 1866—the second Independence Day after the end of the American Civil War. Five years before the Great Chicago Fire, this was the greatest fire yet seen in an American city. It started in a boat house on Commercial Street, likely caused by a firecracker or a cigar ash. The fire spread to a lumber yard and on to a sugar house, then spread across the city, eventually burning out on Munjoy Hill in the city's east end. Two people died in the fire and 10,000 people were made homeless. 1,800 buildings were burned to the ground. This included the federal Exchange Building by which was replaced with the custom house. Soon after the fire, Portland native and acclaimed poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow described his old home town: "Desolation, desolation, desolation. It reminded me of Pompeii, that ‘sepult city."

Wright Wharf (or Wright's Wharf) is a historic wharf in Portland, Maine, on the edge of the Fore River. It is located on Commercial Street between Portland Fish Pier (to the north) and Hobson's Wharf (to the south). Brown's Wharf formerly stood to the north, where the parking lot for Portland Fish Pier is today. The wharf is named for A. R. Wright, who owned a coal works on it in the early 20th century. The wharf is owned by the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.

The Nathaniel Dyer House is an historic house at 168 York Street in Portland, Maine. Built in 1803, it is one of the city's oldest surviving brick houses, rare for the building material and for its scale, which is for a middle-class family of the period. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The William Minott House is a historic house at 45 Park Street in Portland, Maine. It is one of Portland's few Federal period houses, notably surviving the city's devastating 1866 fire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 10, 1979.

The Casco Bay Bridge is a bascule bridge that spans the Fore River, connecting South Portland and Portland, Maine, United States. The bridge carries four lanes (two in each direction) of State Route 77, a bike lane in each direction, and a pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the span.

The Million Dollar Bridge was a bascule bridge built in 1916 which carried traffic on Route 77 over the Fore River in Maine between Portland and South Portland.Permits to construct the Million Dollar Bridge were issued by the Secretary of War in 1893. The bridge was designed in 1914 and opened to traffic in 1916. The bascule span provided a horizontal clearance of 100 ft (30 m). Originally owned by Cumberland County, the bridge was transferred to the Maine Department of Transportation in 1959.In 1993, construction began on Casco Bay Bridge, a replacement for the Million Dollar Bridge. The Casco Bay Bridge is a higher bascule bridge, with an alignment just east of the Million Dollar Bridge. During construction of the new bridge, the Million Dollar Bridge was hit by the Liberian Tankship Julie N. on September 27, 1996, and emergency repairs were made. The Casco Bay Bridge opened in 1997.

The Portland Fish Pier is a fishing pier located in Portland, Maine, on the edge of the Fore River. It is a major hub for the commercial fishing industry, and is home to the Portland Fish Exchange, where over 20 million pounds (9.1 kt) of seafood a year are bought and sold. A fishermen's memorial is also located at the pier. Due to the heavy commercial fishing industry presence, there is no ferry service at the Portland Fish Pier. Instead, the Casco Bay Ferry arrives and departs from the nearby Maine State Pier. The pier stands across Commercial Street from Center Street and, on the waterfront side, between Merrill's Wharf (to the north) and Wright Wharf (to the south).The creation of the pier required the demolition of three wharves: Richardson's, Brown's and Smith's. (Brown's Wharf is preserved in the name of the southernmost of the two entrances to the pier, opposite Maple Street.
