The Schwanentorbrücke is a vertical-lift bridge in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, that crosses the Duisburg Inner Harbour. The bridge can be vertically raised to allow cargo ships to access the inner city, and lowered to allow cars, trains and pedestrians to cross. The bridge is named after the Schwanenturm (meaning 'watch tower) that protected the city walls in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Duisburg: Town and Harbour is the Theme Route No. 1 of the Industrial Heritage Trail, which passes through Duisburg, the Inner Harbour, Ruhrort, the Duisburg-Ruhrorter harbour and other attractions on the Rhine and Ruhr. These trails were first developed between 1989 and 1999.

Duisburg (German: [ˈdyːsbʊʁk] (listen) DOOCE-burk) is a city in the Ruhr metropolitan area of the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Lying on the confluence of the Rhine and the Ruhr rivers in the center of the Rhine-Ruhr Region, Duisburg is the 5th largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the 15th-largest city in Germany. In the Middle Ages, it was a city-state and a member of the Hanseatic League, and later became a major centre of iron, steel, and chemicals industries. For this reason, it was heavily bombed in World War II. Today it boasts the world's largest inland port, with 21 docks and 40 kilometres of wharf.

The Duisburg Canals are part of the master plan developed by Foster and Partners for the reconstruction of the Duisburg Inner Harbour. They are part of the Duisburg: Town and Harbour section of the Ruhr Industrial Heritage Trail. An eastern port area was created separated from the rest of the port by the forming an artificial lake 26 m above sea level. The water level is maintained by ensuring that rainwater is channeled into the basin. Excess water is drained to the north side onto a bed of gravel. In case of drought a solar-powered fountain with an annual capacity of 90,000 m³ has been installed by the Hanse canal. Pre-treatment of the water supply is provided by small biotopes at the southern end of the canal. The area includes housing, some of which is low price.

The Vulkanstraße is a street in Duisburg, Germany that is the location of the city's red-light district. There are a number of brothels in the street including Laufhaus. It is the largest red-light district in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.The brothels in Vulkanstraße had a total of 432 rooms in mid-2013. According to an estimate by the Express, the operators generate a seven-digit profit per month.On October 31, 2009 there were massive clashes between the Bandidos and the Hells Angels in Vulkanstraße . The local police had to call in the Bereitschaftspolizei (riot police) for reinforcements. While the Bandidos controlled the Ruhr area, the Hells Angels claimed the Rhineland for themselves; interests overlap in Duisburg. Other competitors included the Satudarah.In 2011 there were plans to move the red-light district to Duisburg, but there was strong opposition. The Vulkanstraße could not be closed without providing an alternate venue. "This would amount to a professional ban and would not be accepted by the courts," according to the city administration. Later in the same year the construction of another brothel on the Vulkanstraße was approved by the District Council.Legal disputes began in 2012 over the "brothel tax" introduced by Duisburg. The city's revenue from the tax was estimated to be 500,000 euros.In 2013, the Greens and leftists in the Duisburg city council called for an advice centre for prostitutes. The "Lily" advice centre was set up in 2015. In their annual report in 2016, Lily reported that 500 women worked as prostitutes and the area, in 10 brothels with 440 rooms. They also reported a high proportion of STIs amongst the women.

The Duisburg tramway network (German: Straßenbahnnetz Duisburg) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Duisburg, a city in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Opened in 1881, the network has been operated since 1940 by the Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (DVG), and is integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR). It now forms part of the larger Duisburg Stadtbahn system, which in turn makes up part of the Rhine-Ruhr Stadtbahn system.

The Innenhafen (Inner Harbour) in Duisburg, Germany, is connected to the Rhine River, encompasses an area of 89ha. For over a hundred years during the high point of the Industrial Revolution, it was the central harbour and trading point of the town. Since the mid 1960s, the importance of the harbour declined and it lay in a disused condition for 20 years, before plans for renovation were drawn up. This former industrial area has been fundamentally transformed, a process which started as a part of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park (IBA) which ran from 1989 until 1999. The basis for this model of development in the Ruhr district was delivered in 1994 by the British architect Norman Foster. Since then, the Inner Harbor has transformed itself into a district combining employment, housing, culture and water-based leisure activities. Today, the Inner Harbour is both industrial heritage and a main stop on the Route der Industriekultur.

Stadtwerketurm is a chimney of Duisburg. It was built in 1966–67 and consists of four tubes. One of these tubes contains an elevator, the others are used for smoke guiding. It Stands at least more than 7 metres tall.

Portsmouth Damm is a 97-metre-long (318 ft) structure located in the Inner Harbour of Duisburg, Germany. It was completed in 1998. It links both sides of the Inner Harbour, whilst also separating the rear harbour which is maintained at a higher level. On 18 August 2000 it was named after the English city of Portsmouth, with which Duisburg had been twinned for fifty years. The architects were Norman Foster and Partners.
