Batestein Castle

Nieuwegein-Zuid is a tram stop of the Utrecht sneltram network, located in the most southern part of Nieuwegein. It is since its opening in 1983 the terminus of Line 60, Utrecht Central Station - Nieuwegein South. It connects the Hoog-Zandveld neighbourhood of Nieuwegein with IJsselstein and Utrecht. It is located right next to a shopping center.

Vianen (Dutch pronunciation: [viˈjaːnə(n)] (listen)) is a city and a former municipality in the central Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It is located south of the Lek River. Before 2002 it was part of the province of South Holland. Vianen is bordered by two major motorways leading to Utrecht: the A2 (Amsterdam-Maastricht) on its west, and the A27 (Breda-Almere) just east of the town. Both roads can be notoriously congested near Vianen during peak commute hours. The municipality was merged with the municipalities of Leerdam and Zederik on 1 January 2019. The name of the new municipality is Vijfheerenlanden which is a part of the province Utrecht.

Vreeswijk is a former village and municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The municipality merged with Jutphaas in 1971, and is now the southern half of the town of Nieuwegein. The former village was located on the Lek River, near where it is crossed by the Merwede Canal. The old village centre on the locks has been preserved reasonably well. This lock is said to be the oldest example of a pound lock in Europe. This was the key innovation which gave rise to the modern canal, by virtue of having two gates, although it was a larger basin capable of holding a number of ships at once. The Lek was normally at a slightly higher level than the canal leading to Utrecht and in times of flood was very much higher, so that it would not be possible to let boats enter or leave without flooding the surrounding land. The additional gate limited the amount of water that needed to be let in, so that only the basin needed to be raised.

Vijfheerenlanden (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvɛi̯fˌɦeːrə(n)ˌlɑndə(n)]), literally "lands of five Lords", is a municipality in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. The municipality was created on 1 January 2019 through the merger of the former municipalities of Vianen (Utrecht), Leerdam and Zederik (both South Holland). Vijfheerenlanden has 59,150 inhabitants on 1 January 2022. Vijfheerenlanden is also the name of an area in the provinces of Utrecht (since 2002) and South Holland. The area also borders on two other Dutch provinces: Gelderland to the east, and North Brabant to the south. On its western border is the Alblasserwaard, an area in South Holland, and on its eastern border the Tielerwaard, an area in Gelderland. The largest city of Vijfheerenlanden is Vianen, which is a major node in the Dutch network of roads and rivers. The second largest city is Leerdam. The borders on the north and south of the area are formed by rivers, de Lek in the north and the Waal the south, the east border is formed by the line Haaften – Rhenoy – Everdingen, and the west border is formed by the line Ameide – Meerkerk – Arkel. The area takes its name from the Lords of Arkel, of Ter Leede, of Hagestein, of Everdingen, dike builders from Haaften, and the Van Brederodes from Vianen, who together, in 1284, took measures to protect the area against the threat of water from the Geldersche Betuwe. The most eastern village in Vijfheerenlanden is Haaften, which was the village that was threatened the most by the water, and the villagers there started to heighten the dikes.

Stadscentrum is a tram stop of the Utrecht sneltram network, located beside the Nieuwegein Cityplaza shopping mall in Nieuwegein. It is along the SUNIJ (sneltram Utrecht-Nieuwegein-IJsselstein) line which runs south from the Jaarbeursplein stop at Utrecht Centraal railway station. South of the Stadscentrum stop is the main junction of the sneltram network where southbound trams from Utrecht branch to either IJsselstein-Zuid and Nieuwegein-Zuid, lines 60 and 61 respectively.There is a plan to build a new public transport hub during which the existing tram stop and bus station would be relocated. In first half of 2022, the temporary tram stop will be relocated to its permanent location. With the exception of the tram stops at Utrecht Centraal, Nieuwegein-Stadscentrum is the busiest tram stop on the Utrecht tram system. In 2018, the daily tram ridership at the stop was 2,000 per day in addition to 1,400 bus riders. The new hub is expected to serve 5,000 riders per day in future.Until 30 May 2020, the Stadscentrum stop had high platforms and was located on the north side of the street Passage at the entrance to the Cityplaza shopping mall. After that date, the line was then shut down to lower and lengthen the tram platforms along the SUNIJ line to accommodate new low-floor trams. The original high-platform Stadscentrum stop was decommissioned. After the line reopened on 3 January 2021, the tram stop had been temporarily relocated northwards parallel to the street Spoorstede between the streets Schouwstede and Hagestede. There is a bus terminal located at the north-east corner of the tram right-of-way and the street Schouwstede.Between 26 February and 16 June 2022, buses will replace trams to Nieuwegein and IJsselstein in order to relocate the Stadscentrum tram stop and realign the tracks. The final location for the stop will be between the streets Passage and Weverstede. The stop will be wheelchair-accessible from both ends of each platform. Because of the presence of many pedestrians and cyclists near the stop, the maximum speed for trams going through this area will be 20 km/h. After 16 June 2021, trams will serve the new stop which will have temporary shelters on the platforms pending the erection of a permanent canopy.The relocation of the tram stop is part of a larger redevelopment effort at City Nieuwegein. The buildings south-west of the tram tracks will be demolished in order to construct 1600 new residences. The demolition allows the tram tracks to be shifted in that direction.There is an emergency crossover between the platforms of the temporary Stadscentrum stop. After the relocation of the stop, this crossover will be available to turn back trams that arrive from Utrecht at the southbound platform of the permanent stop.A new adjacent bus station is planned for 2025. It will be located at the south-west corner of the streets Schouwstede and Spoorstede.

Hagestein is a village and former city in the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, Utrecht, Netherlands, on the Lek River, about 2 km east of Vianen. It received city rights in 1382. Hagestein was destroyed in 1405 by the Count of Holland and the Prince-Bishop of Utrecht. Hagestein was a separate municipality between 1818 and 1986, when it merged with Vianen. Until 2002, it was a part of the province of South Holland.

The Gerbrandy Tower (Dutch: Gerbrandytoren) is a tower in IJsselstein, the Netherlands. It was built in 1961.

Jutphaas is a former village and municipality in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. The municipality merged with Vreeswijk in 1971, and is now the northern half of the town of Nieuwegein. The former village was located on the Merwedekanaal, and some of the buildings can still be found there, surrounded by the suburbs of Nieuwegein.

Nieuwegein (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌniʋəˈɣɛin] (listen)) is a municipality and city in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is bordered on the north by the city of Utrecht, the provincial capital. It is separated from Vianen to the south by the river Lek and borders on IJsselstein in the southwest and Houten in the east. Nieuwegein has 64,606 inhabitants as of 1 December 2021. Several national sports federations are housed in Nieuwegein, including the NeVoBo (volleyball), KNZB (swimming), NBb (basketball) and KNCB (cricket). There are three main secondary schools in the city, including the Anna van Rijn College, Oosterlicht College and the Cals College.

Lopikerkapel is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Lopik, and lies about 3 km south of IJsselstein. The village has a small centre, with a church, but mostly consists of a ribbon of farms on both sides of the Enge IJssel river. The name Lopikerkapel means "Lopik's chapel".

The Mediumwave transmitter Lopik was a medium wave broadcasting facility near Lopik in the Netherlands. It was constructed in 1938 and closed down on 1 September 2015. Its last use was to transmit the Dutch language edition of Radio Maria on 675 kHz. The aerial consisted of a 196-metre guyed steel framework mast, which was insulated against ground. On 24 July 2015, Radio Maria Netherlands announced the closedown of its transmissions on 675 kHz Medium wave as of 1 September 2015.Originally, there was also a second, 165 metre guyed steel framework mast for the mediumwave frequency 1332 kHz, but this was taken down on 21 August 2004.On 4 September 2015, the remaining 196 metre mast was also taken down, marking the end of 75 years of Medium wave transmissions from the Lopik site.This mast should not be confused with the Gerbrandy tower in the nearby town of IJsselstein, which is used for FM- and TV-broadcasting. The Gerbrandy Tower used to be in the municipality of Lopik as well before an administrative change, and is often referred to as the "Lopik tower".

Tull en 't Waal is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. Until 1962, it was a separate municipality, but now it is a part of the municipality of Houten. Originally, there were two villages: 't Waal, at the site of the present village; and Tull, more to the south. It also has a ferry connection to the town of Culemborg. It is located close to the Lek River.
