High Royds railway station

Worsbrough is an area about two miles south of Barnsley in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Before 1974, Worsbrough had its own urban district council in the West Riding of the historic county of Yorkshire and it is still counted as a separate place from Barnsley by the 2011 Census, but it is often treated as part of Barnsley as the two settlements run into one another.

Lowe Stand is an 18th-century folly built for Thomas Watson-Wentworth, 1st Marquess of Rockingham, and likely originally intended as a hunting lodge. It is situated in the South Yorkshire town of Hoyland, 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Barnsley. Today the stand is a Grade II listed building but is in a fairly advanced state of decay. In 2008 the deeds were handed over from the council to voluntary group, the Friends of Hoyland Lowe Stand (now the Lowe Stand Trust). The council has given permission to restore it according to the plan produced.

Barrow Colliery was a coal mine in Worsborough, South Yorkshire, England. It was first dug in 1873, with the first coal being brought to the surface in January 1876. It was the scene of a major incident in 1907 when seven miners died. After 109 years of coaling operations, the mine was closed in May 1985.

The Church of St. Mary is the parish church in the village of Worsbrough in South Yorkshire, England. It is a Church of England church in the Diocese of Sheffield. The building is Grade I listed and was built in the 12th century, however evidence of Saxon stonework suggests an older building on this site. Parts of the chancel are early Norman but the church underwent several alterations in the 14th and 15th century including the installing of the south door with its Gothic inscription which dates to 1480.Seventy five miners who were killed in the 1849 Darley Main Colliery disaster lay buried in the churchyard in a mass grave.

Kirk Balk Academy is a secondary school located in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It is part of the Northern Education Trust. The school mainly serves students living in its immediate area: Birdwell, Hoyland, Jump, Tankersley, Elsecar, Wombwell and Pilley.The school is an 11-16 academy teaching a wide curriculum in lower school (Y7-9) with a variety of qualifications in the upper school (Y10-11), such as GCSE and BTEC.Construction of a new building for the school was finished in late 2011, allowing for the demolition of the old building. This made space for a new school sports field. Additionally, the school changed its name from Kirk Balk School to Kirk Balk Community College, changing the logo and uniform in the process. In September 2014, the school was renamed Kirk Balk Academy, and in March 2015 it was formally converted to academy status, sponsored by the Northern Education Trust. In September 2016, Ms Jo Nolan became the Executive Principal of Kirk Balk Academy until 2018, when she was replaced by Mr Dean Buckley.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Football Club is a football club based in Worsbrough, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. They are currently members of the Northern Counties East League Division One and play at Park Road.

Worsbrough Mill, also known as Worsbrough Corn Mill and Worsbrough Mill Farm is a complex of buildings including a seventeenth-century water-powered mill and a nineteenth-century steam-powered mill in Worsbrough, Barnsley, England. The mill is open to the public and takes its water from the River Dove, but is hydraulically separate from Worsbrough Reservoir. Note that "Worsbrough" refers to an area that includes today's Worsbrough Bridge, Worsbrough Dale, and Worsbrough Common.

Pilley is a village in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Pilley is situated to the south of Barnsley and to the west of Junction 36 of the M1 motorway. It is part of the civil parish of Tankersley, and lies close to that village. The general store in Pilley also serves as Tankersley Post Office. It has a small Church of England church of St Paul and a Wesleyan Church dating from 1886.

Birdwell is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England and is located approximately 4.5 miles (7 km) south of Barnsley, 12.1 miles (19 km) north-east of Sheffield, and 20.0 miles (32 km) west of Doncaster. The village falls within the Rockingham Ward of the Barnsley Metropolitan Council. Neighbouring villages include Worsbrough, Tankersley and Hoyland Common. The A61 (Sheffield Road) passes north–south through the length of Birdwell, and at the southern end is Birdwell Roundabout which is the junction between the M1 motorway at Junction 36 and the A61. The roundabout also marks the start of the Dearne Valley Parkway, a relatively new dual carriageway which links the M1 at Junction 36 to the A1 at Marr (near Doncaster). Birdwell is run under the auspices of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

Dovecliffe railway station was situated on the South Yorkshire Railway's Blackburn Valley line between High Royds and Wombwell Main Junction.

Birdwell & Hoyland Common railway station was a railway station on the South Yorkshire Railway's Blackburn Valley line between Westwood and High Royds. The station was intended to serve the villages of Pilley, Birdwell and Hoyland Common, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England although the original chosen site was moved half a mile nearer towards Barnsley to serve the purposes of the Earl of Wharncliffe who was, at that time, sinking Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery nearby. This move away made the station less convenient for most of the population. The station was opened in February 1855, the building having an ornate canopy over its entrance and the buildings containing a private waiting room for the use of the Earl of Wharncliffe. Closure came on 7 December 1953.

Barnsley Academy is a secondary school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The school opened in September 2006.The school has academy status, having joined United Learning when opened.
