Cudworth, South Yorkshire

Monk Bretton is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. It lies approximately two miles north-east from Barnsley town centre. Until 1974 it was in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Cudworth railway station (English: ) was a railway station that served Cudworth, South Yorkshire, England.

Outwood Academy Shafton (formerly Shafton Advanced Learning Centre) is a comprehensive secondary school with academy status, located in Shafton, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It is a mixed school for both girls and boys, ages 11–16, with over 1,000 pupils on roll.The school is operated by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and the current principal is Alison Bumford (Mcqueen).

Grimethorpe Halt was a small railway station on the Dearne Valley Railway (DVR) situated between Great Houghton Halt and Ryhill Halt. It served the village of Grimethorpe, South Yorkshire, England. The station was opened on 3 June 1912, and closed on 10 September 1951. Originally, trains were operated on behalf of the DVR by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway; when that company amalgamated with the London and North Western Railway on 1 January 1922, the combined organisation (also known as the London and North Western Railway) absorbed the DVR on the same day.

Barnsley were a British speedway team from Barnsley, England, that competed in the English Dirt Track League in the inaugural season of British Speedway in 1929.

Monk Bretton railway station was a railway station that served the village of Monk Bretton, South Yorkshire, England. It was opened in 1876 by the Midland Railway in their characteristic country style and is sited on the line between Barnsley Court House and Cudworth. The station was double track with two flanking platforms approached from the nearby road over bridge, the main buildings being on the Barnsley bound platform. A signal box, in typical Midland Railway design, was situated at the outer end of the Cudworth platform. The station closed on 27 September 1937 though the line to Monk Bretton remained open and now serves a glassworks in the village where the line stops.

Greatest Hits Radio South Yorkshire (Barnsley) is an Independent Local Radio station serving Barnsley. The station, originally known as Dearne FM, was folded into Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020.

Royston and Notton railway station was opened in 1841 by the North Midland Railway, near the Yorkshire summit of the line, on the south side of Navvy Lane bridge. The original station was rebuilt, about a mile further south, in 1900 when the lines were quadrupled. Shortly after this, the Midland Railway built a branch from Royston Junction to the north of the station as part of its plans to reach Bradford and the north, avoiding Leeds. In the end, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway gave it running powers and the branch only reached Dewsbury. It was a large station with four platforms and typical Midland Railway timber buildings although only 2 platforms were used regularly for passenger services. It closed in 1968. Nearby was the Royston engine shed built in the early 1930s, code 20C, to provide motive power for trains from the large collieries of the area. Most of its allocation was Stanier and WD 2-8-0s plus the ubiquitous Fowler 4F's, but ex LNWR 0-8-0s and LMS Garratts were not unknown.

Monckton Coke Works (formerly the Monckton Coke and Chemical Company Ltd) was a coking plant near Royston in South Yorkshire, England. The plant opened in 1884 and was closed 130 years later in 2014, being one of the last remnants of the coal industry in Yorkshire. In the 21st century, it was known as being the last independent coke works in the United Kingdom. For many years it was known for its high-quality coking coal, even being exported to coal-rich South Africa for use in steelmaking. However, in 2013/2014, the market was swamped with cheap imports from the Far East, spelling the demise of Monckton due to it being uneconomical.

Hodroyd Hall at South Hiendley in the parish of Felkirk near Barnsley in West Yorkshire, England is an Elizabethan manor house currently used as 3 dwellings. It is Grade II listed.It is built with sandstone, has stone slate roofs, and originally had a rectangular floor plan. Additions have been made at the rear of the building. The building is two-and-a-half storeys, and the principal facade faces west.

South Hiendley is a village and civil parish in the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 1,667, increasing to 1,817 at the 2011 Census. Until 1974 it was part of Hemsworth Rural District. The village is on the edge of the county of West Yorkshire in the Wakefield area 8 miles (14 km) from the city centre. However it is marginally closer to the town of Barnsley 7 miles (12 km) just across the border in South Yorkshire. It has a Barnsley postcode (S72) and telephone code (01226). The village has one public house, The Sun Inn, (the Fox Inn was demolished in 2013), a primary school (South Hiendley Junior Infant and Early Years School) and a Doctor's surgery.

Grimethorpe Hall is a manor house in Grimethorpe, South Yorkshire, England. Built circa 1670 for Robert Seaton (also spelled Seton), it is thought to be in the style of York architect Robert Trollope. Around 1800 the hall passed to John Farrar Crookes of Tunbridge Wells. It was last used as a house in the 1960s and afterwards was purchased by the National Coal Board. The National Coal Board applied to demolish it in 1981 but, after a campaign by the Ancient Monuments Society, this was unsuccessful. The structure received statutory protection as a grade II* listed building in 1985. Proposals by later owners to convert the hall into a nursing home, restaurant or social housing came to naught and the hall fell into the ownership of the Crown Estate in 2016 after the company owning it was dissolved. Concerns have since been raised over the structure and a local campaign has been launched in an attempt to restore it.
