Munich Karlsplatz station

Stachus is a large square in central Munich, Bavaria. The square was officially named Karlsplatz in 1797 after the unpopular Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria. Munich natives seldom use that name, calling the square instead Stachus, after the pub Beim Stachus, once owned by Eustachius Föderl, that was located there until construction work for Karlsplatz began. Even the U-Bahn and S-Bahn announcements use the unofficial name.

Karlstor in Munich (called Neuhauser Tor until 1791) is one of what used to be Munich's famed city wall from the medieval ages till late into the 18th century. It served as a major defensive fortification and checkpoint. It is located at the western end of Neuhauser Straße, a portion of Munich's down-town pedestrian zone, which was part of the salt road and the east-west thoroughfare of the historic old town. Thus it separates the historic centre from a 19th-century extension called Ludwigvorstadt (Vorstadt meaning 'suburb'). Karlstor receives its name from Karlsplatz (better known under its local nickname "Stachus"), which is now part of the Altstadtring circular road and has been one of the busiest points of Munich for centuries. The building is the westernmost of three remaining gothic town gates out of originally five. The other two are Isartor in the east (the only one that is still complete in its basic structure) and Sendlinger Tor in the south-west. Missing nowadays, after the whole fortification system had to be laid down on prince-electoral order at the turn from the 18th to the 19th century, are Angertor in the south and Schwabinger Tor in the north, as well as all "minor" or side gates and the entire double walls.

The Hotel Königshof is a luxury hotel in Munich. It is part of the hotel group Geisel Privathotels and The Leading Hotels of the World. The building is listed as a historic monument in the Bavarian heritage register. Martin Fauster, the chef of the hotel restaurant since 2004, has received one Michelin Star.

The Oberpollinger is a well-known upscale department store on Neuhauser Straße in Munich. It is run by KaDeWe Group GmbH (formerly Karstadt Premium GmbH) and is the largest department store in Southern Germany. The building was built in 1905 by Max Littmann in the style of Historicism in the form of the Neo-Renaissance and is a listed building.

Neptunbrunnen is a fountain located in the Alter Botanischer Garten of Munich, Germany. It was sculpted in 1937 at the behest of the National Socialist government by Josef Wackerle. A muscular statue of neptune stands in the middle of the fountain, holding a trident on his shoulder, above a fish-tailed horse rising from the water.

The Bürgersaal (English: "Citizen's Hall") is a historical building in Munich, Germany. Also known as Bürgersaalkirche since the consecration of the altar on May 13, 1778, it is the prayer and meeting room of the Marian Men Congregation "Annunciation". It was built in 1709/1710 under design by Giovanni Antonio Viscardi.

Herzogspitalkirche (German: "St. Elisabeth Hospital") is a Catholic church in Munich, southern Germany. It was a Baroque building commissioned by Duke Albert V of Bavaria, designed by Johann Baptist Gunetzrhainer and inaugurated in 1727.Damaged during World War II, the Duke Hospital was demolished and replaced by a new building. The tower was restored, the nave replaced by a new building designed by Alexander von Branca (1956–57), with a brickwork interior.

Neuhauser Straße is part of the first and largest pedestrian zone in Munich's Old Town. Here, many retail shops and restaurants are to be found.

The Bernheimer-Haus, also known as the Bernheimer Palace, is a residential and commercial building located on Lenbachplatz 3 in Munich. The building was built in 1888/89 by architect Friedrich von Thiersch with a neo-baroque style façade designed by his apprentice Martin Dülfer, making the building one of the first of its kind and later the most influential for all other buildings of its type in Munich. The building is protected as cultural heritage.

Memorial for Franz Xaver Gabelsberger is a monument located in Maxvorstadt, Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The monument is a bronze sculpture by the German sculptor Syrius Eberle. It was dedicated shortly after the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Franz Xaver Gabelsberger (1789-1849), the inventor of a cursive shorthand system. Casting was by Ferdinand von Miller. The monument shows Gabelsberger in a sitting position and is mounted on a stone base. The location is a plaza at the confluence of Barer Strasse in Ottostraße in the district of Maxvorstadt. Due some problems Syrius Eberle could not complete the monument on time. Thus the 100th anniversary celebration occurred a year later at the 40th Foundation celebration of stenographers central association. The inauguration of the monument was in August 1890.The monument is registered as a historic landmark in the Bavarian monument list.
