The National Bank of San Mateo, at 164 S. B St. in San Mateo, California, is a Beaux Arts-style bank built in 1924. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.It is one of three San Mateo buildings designed by "pioneer California architect" William H. Weeks; and it was built by contractor Samuel A. Wisnom.In 1955 the local bank was absorbed by, and became a branch of, the Crocker-Anglo Bank. In the 1980s, Wells Fargo absorbed Crocker-Anglo, found this branch to be redundant, and closed it.It is the only example of Beaux Arts style in San Mateo, and was deemed to be a significant example of the style, despite the instance being somewhat watered-down and late relative to most other works in the style, including those of Weeks.

Central Park is the first public park in San Mateo, California, a 16.5-acre (7 ha) urban park bounded by El Camino Real (to the southwest), 5th Avenue (to the northwest), Laurel Avenue (to the northeast) and 9th Avenue (to the southeast). It was established via a 1922 bond measure of US$80,000 (equivalent to $1,300,000 in 2021) to purchase the land originally owned by Charles B. Polhemus, and currently hosts a baseball field, tennis courts, sculptures, playground, Japanese tea garden, recreation center, miniature train, rose garden and the San Mateo Arboretum.

Draper University, also known as Draper University of Heroes is a private, for-profit school located in San Mateo, California. Draper University partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) in 2013 to offer students 15 course credits for a sixteen-week semester program. Prior to the partnership with ASU, the school was unaccredited.

The San Mateo Arboretum is an arboretum in San Mateo, California containing old stands of pine, oak, cedar, and redwood planted over 100 years ago on the William Kohl property by John McLaren. The Arboretum is located in San Mateo's Central Park, which also houses the San Mateo Arboretum Society near the Kohl Pump House area of the park.The San Mateo Arboretum Society is a volunteer run, nonprofit, founded in 1975 by Marion Panaretos. They host horticultural-themed events and classes, as well as working on the rose garden, the plant nurseries and the native plant garden within the park. The gardens, particularly the rose garden is popular for weddings.Within Central Park there is a Japanese tea garden designed by Nagao Sakurai, that was dedicated in 1966. This garden contains cherry trees, Japanese maples and bonsai and marks the sister-city relationship between San Mateo and Toyonaka, Japan.

Mission Hospice, also called (Mission Dolores Outpost and Mission San Mateo), is a historical site in San Mateo, California in San Joaquin County on the San Mateo Creek. Mission Dolores Outpost site is a California Historical Landmark No. 393 listed on March 8, 1948. Mission Dolores Outpost was built by Spanish Padres with New Spain in 1786. The outpost was a resting spot on the El Camino Real trail running north to south to the Spanish missions in California. Mission Dolores Outpost was the stop between Mission Santa Clara de Asís and Mission San Francisco de Asís. The Mission Dolores outpost also worked with the local Natives. To feed the mission and natives of Mission Dolores had a farm outpost at an Ohlone Village. The outpost also raised cattle. Food was also taken to Mission San Francisco de Asís. The two main adobe buildings at the site were the large granary building and small chapel. Mission Dolores Outpost was abanded in about 1793 after diseases killed most of the native population. After the Mexican secularization act of 1833 the large granary building was used as an inn on the El Camino road. The mission land became Rancho San Mateo and Rancho de las Pulgas. In 1849 the output buildings also became a stagecoach stop, opened by Nicolas de Peyster. None of the Mission Hospice buildings now exist, the site is the center of city of San Mateo.The Mission Dolores Outpost historical marker is at Southwest corner of Baywood/(Baldwin) and El Camino Real-California State Route 82 in San Mateo, placed there by the, Anson Burlingame Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Hayward Park station is one of three Caltrain stations in San Mateo, California. It is a short distance south of the site of the Southern Pacific station at Hayward Park. The station is planned to be modified to accommodate through-running California High-Speed Rail service.
