Nuseirat (Arabic: مخيّم النصيرات) is a Palestinian refugee camp located in the middle of the Gaza Strip, five kilometers north-east of Deir al-Balah. The refugee camp is in the Deir al-Balah Governorate, Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the refugee camp had a population of 31,747 and the surrounding Nuseirat municipality had a population of 54,851 in 2017.The Nuseirat camp was named after the local Nuseirat tribe, part of the larger Hanajira confederation, that historically dominated the area between Deir al-Balah and Gaza. Most refugees came from the southern areas of Palestine such as Beersheba and the coastal plain. Prior to the camp's establishment by UNRWA, the roughly 16,000 original refugees settled in the grounds of a former British military prison at the site.In May 2018 a mosque, the Grand Nuseirat Mosque, was opened by the Qatari envoy to Gaza, Mohammed Al Emadi.

On 31 October 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces struck a residential building in the Gaza Strip during its operations in Gaza in the Israel–Hamas war, killing at least 106 people, including 54 children. Human Rights Watch said there was no evidence of any military targets in the area at the time of the attack, making the strike an apparent war crime. The incident was not public knowledge until April 2024.

The Bombing of Gaza is an ongoing aerial bombardment campaign on the Gaza Strip by the Israel Air Force during the Israel-Hamas War. During the bombing, Israeli airstrikes damaged Palestinian mosques, schools, hospitals, refugee camps, and civilian infrastructure. The campaign was compared to other major historical bombing campaigns, including the bombings of Dresden and Tokyo during World War II.Israel faced accusations of war crimes due to the large number of civilian casualties and the large percentage of civilian infrastructure destroyed. In its defense, Israel stated that it utilized a wide-scale evacuation notification system, and claimed that its targets were used by Hamas. By January 2024, researchers at Oregon University and the City University of New York estimated that as much as 62 percent of all buildings in the Gaza Strip had been damaged or destroyed.

Bureij (Arabic: البريج) is a Palestinian refugee camp located in the central Gaza Strip east of the Salah al-Din Road in the Deir al-Balah Governorate. The camp's total land area is 529 dunums and in 2017, it had a population of 28,024 with 28,770 registered refugees. The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) 2017 census listed a population of 15,491 in the surrounding Bureij municipality apart from the camp population.The camp was established in 1949 with a population of 13,000 Palestinians from the broader Gaza area. A small percentage of the refugees were housed in the British army barracks but the bulk of them were housed in tents. The UNRWA built concrete homes in 1950 to replace the tents. Most of the refugees today, like those in most camps in the Gaza Strip today, live in densely populated buildings. The camp does not have a sewage system and most waste accumulates in the Wadi Gaza, a stream north of the camp, and as a result poses a health hazard. Most of the camp's water comes from an Israeli water company.Bureij has six primary and two secondary schools with a population of 9,306 pupils at the end of 2004. All schools are operated by the UNRWA.

Tell es-Sanam is a tell (a mound created by accumulation of debris) near the Mediterranean coast of the Gaza Strip in Palestine. It is located on the bank of the Wadi Ghazzeh, near the point where the watercourse meets the Mediterranean Sea. Archaeologists Joanna Clarke and Louise Steel hypothesise that Tell es-Sanam may have been established in the 2nd millennium BCE as a successor to the Bronze Age settlement at Tell el-Ajjul a short distance away as the Wadi Gazzeh silted up; its position near the sea would have enabled to it function as a port. The Gaza Research Project found Iron Age pottery during preliminary investigations, and Eliezer Oren reported finding Late Bronze Age pottery at Tell es-Sanam in the 1970s. Clarke and Steel also suggest that during the Iron Age the settlements at Tell es-Sanam and Tell Ruqeish may have been more important in the region than the settlement at Gaza. Between 2005 and 2014, the area around the archaeological site changed significantly with the construction of industrial buildings and craters nearby from the 2014 Gaza War. Archaeologist Michael Press suggests that a 10 feet (3.0 m) marble statue of Zeus found in 1879, and it is from this discovery that the site gets its name which in Arabic means "the mound of the idol".

Taur Ikhbeineh was a prehistoric settlement in what is today the Gaza Strip, Palestine. It was inhabited in the 4th millennium BC. Excavations in the 20th century provided evidence of interactions between Canaanite and Egyptian people.

Tall al-Ajjul or Tell el-'Ajul is an archaeological mound or tell in the Gaza Strip. The fortified city excavated at the site dates as far back as ca. 2000-1800 BCE and was inhabited during the Bronze Age. It is located at the mouth of Wadi Ghazzah just south of the town of Gaza.

The Besor (Hebrew: נחל הבשור, romanized: Nahal HaBesor) or Wadi Gaza (Arabic: وادي غزة, romanized: Wadi Ghazza) is a stream in southern Israel and Palestine. The stream begins at Mount Boker (near Sde Boker), and spills into the Mediterranean Sea near Al-Zahra in the Gaza Strip. Further upstream it was marked as Wadi esh-Shallaleh on the 1878 Survey of Western Palestine map. The area has several important archaeological sites.The stream is the largest in the northern Negev, and together with its largest tributaries, the Nahal Gerar, and the Beersheba stream, reaches as far east into the desert as Sde Boker, Yeruham, Dimona, and Arad/Tel Arad. The Gaza section of the Coastal Aquifer is the only significant source of water in the Gaza Strip. The Wadi Gaza runs through a wetland, the Gaza Valley, and as of 2012 it is used as a wastewater dump.

Al-Zahra (Arabic: الزهراء) is a Palestinian municipality in the Gaza Governorate, south of Gaza and north of the Wadi Gaza, in the central Gaza Strip. The University of Palestine and Ummah Open University are located there. In 2017, it had a population of 5,338. There were 837 housing units and 237 other buildings in the town.Yasser Arafat established Al-Zahra in the 1990s as a residential area for Palestine Authority staff and supporters. It remained a neighborhood with larger houses and more open space than others in Gaza City. In the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, it was untouched by airstrikes until October 19, 2023, when several apartment blocks were bombed by the Israel Defense Forces.

The Bureij mosaic is a Byzantine-era mosaic floor discovered under an olive orchard in the Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Palestine in 2022. It was part of a Byzantine church, and the mosaic was likely created between AD 390 and 634–636. It is described as a "sprawling grid" with cartouches containing 17 animals, including geese, ducks, dogs, insects, goats, deer, and an octopus. There are also geometric patterns and a border depicting a vine. The mosaic underlies a 500-square-metre (5,400 sq ft) area from which three sections of earth have already been removed, with more remaining to be excavated. Farmer Salman al-Nabahin found the mosaic when he began investigating why his trees were not rooting properly. The French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem is assisting with the excavation. Archaeologist Rene Elter reported that the mosaic was in a "perfect state of conservation". Further research is needed to determine whether the mosaic floor was installed in a private villa, a religious structure, or for some other purpose. The archaeological site is inaccessible due to the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, and researchers are dependent on satellite imagery to monitor changes. A report compiling information collected between June and September 2024 noted that the site had been bulldozed and it is likely that such activity has damaged archaeological deposits close to the surface.

Al-Mughraqa (Arabic: المغراقة, also known as Abu Middein) is a Palestinian town in the Gaza Governorate of the Gaza Strip, located six kilometers southwest of Gaza City. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), al-Mughraqa had a population of 11,458 in 2017. The town's alternate name, "Abu Middein" derives from the Bedouin Abu Middein tribe that inhabits the area, part of the larger al-Hanajreh tribal confederation.
