Tell el-Ajjul

Al-Zahra (Arabic: الزهراء) is a Palestinian municipality in the Gaza Governorate, south of Gaza and north of the Wadi Gaza, in the central Gaza Strip. The University of Palestine and Ummah Open University are located there. In 2017, it had a population of 5,338. There were 837 housing units and 237 other buildings in the town.Yasser Arafat established Al-Zahra in the 1990s as a residential area for Palestine Authority staff and supporters. It remained a neighborhood with larger houses and more open space than others in Gaza City. In the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, it was untouched by airstrikes until October 19, 2023, when several apartment blocks were bombed by the Israel Defense Forces.

Al-Mughraqa (Arabic: المغراقة, also known as Abu Middein) is a Palestinian town in the Gaza Governorate of the Gaza Strip, located six kilometers southwest of Gaza City. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), al-Mughraqa had a population of 11,458 in 2017. The town's alternate name, "Abu Middein" derives from the Bedouin Abu Middein tribe that inhabits the area, part of the larger al-Hanajreh tribal confederation.

Tell es-Sakan, lit. "Hill of Ash", is a now almost entirely destroyed tell (archaeological mound) standing some 5 km south of Gaza City in what is today the Gaza Strip, on the northern bank of Wadi Ghazzeh. It was the site of two separate Early Bronze Age urban settlements: an earlier one representing the fortified administrative center of the Egyptian colonies in southwestern Palestine from the end of the 4th millennium, and a later, local Canaanite fortified city of the third millennium. The location at the mouth of what was probably a palaeochannel of the river, allowed it to develop as an important maritime settlement with a natural harbour. Its geographical location endowed it with a position of importance at the crossroads of land-based trade routes between the Canaan region, the Old Kingdom of Egypt, and Arabia. As of 2000, the early Egyptian settlement was the oldest fortified site known to researchers in both Egypt and Palestine.

The University of Palestine (UP; Arabic: جامعة فلسطين) is a Palestinian private institution of higher education located in Al-Zahra' (south of Gaza City). The university was established in 2005. The University of Palestine offers an open access repository for scholarly output by research centers, faculty staff and students, as well as a published Arabic Lightweight OpenCourseWare.

al-Moghraqa is a Bronze Age former settlement in Gaza Governorate of the State of Palestine. It was discovered in 1996 in the town of Al-Mughraqa and investigated in 1999 and 2000 as part of the Gaza Research Project. The site was inhabited in the early 2nd millennium BC, and may have been associated with the nearby settlement of Tell el-Ajjul which was inhabited at around the same time.

The Gaza Power Plant is a fossil fuel power station in Gaza Strip, Palestine.

The Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital (Arabic: مستشفى الصداقة التركي الفلسطيني, Turkish: Türk-Filistin Dostluk Hastanesi) was a hospital in Gaza, Palestine, built and equipped by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). In 2010, the Board of Trustees of the Islamic University of Gaza approved its establishment as a training and research hospital in the Gaza Strip. The construction of the Palestine-Turkey Friendship Hospital began in 2011. It was completed in 2017 at a total cost of 70 million US dollars. During the siege on the Gaza Strip imposed by Israel in October 2023, the hospital ran out of fuel. Gaza health officials reported that it shut down on November 1. Prior to its closure, it was the only hospital in Gaza equipped to serve cancer patients. The hospital director stated that the hospital was hit in an Israeli airstrike. Later, the Israeli Army used the location as a military base. On 21 March 2025, the hospital was demolished by the Israeli Army.

Netzarim (Hebrew: נְצָרִים) was an Israeli settlement in the Gaza Strip about 5 kilometers southwest of Gaza City. It was established in 1972. In August 2005, the inhabitants of Netzarim were evicted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as part of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan.

Taur Ikhbeineh was a prehistoric settlement in what is today the Gaza Strip, Palestine. It was inhabited in the 4th millennium BC. Excavations in the 20th century provided evidence of interactions between Canaanite and Egyptian people.

The Bombing of Gaza is an ongoing aerial bombardment campaign on the Gaza Strip by the Israel Air Force during the Israel-Hamas War. During the bombing, Israeli airstrikes damaged Palestinian mosques, schools, hospitals, refugee camps, and civilian infrastructure. The campaign was compared to other major historical bombing campaigns, including the bombings of Dresden and Tokyo during World War II.Israel faced accusations of war crimes due to the large number of civilian casualties and the large percentage of civilian infrastructure destroyed. In its defense, Israel stated that it utilized a wide-scale evacuation notification system, and claimed that its targets were used by Hamas. By January 2024, researchers at Oregon University and the City University of New York estimated that as much as 62 percent of all buildings in the Gaza Strip had been damaged or destroyed.

Tell es-Sanam is a tell (a mound created by accumulation of debris) near the Mediterranean coast of the Gaza Strip in Palestine. It is located on the bank of the Wadi Ghazzeh, near the point where the watercourse meets the Mediterranean Sea. Archaeologists Joanna Clarke and Louise Steel hypothesise that Tell es-Sanam may have been established in the 2nd millennium BCE as a successor to the Bronze Age settlement at Tell el-Ajjul a short distance away as the Wadi Gazzeh silted up; its position near the sea would have enabled to it function as a port. The Gaza Research Project found Iron Age pottery during preliminary investigations, and Eliezer Oren reported finding Late Bronze Age pottery at Tell es-Sanam in the 1970s. Clarke and Steel also suggest that during the Iron Age the settlements at Tell es-Sanam and Tell Ruqeish may have been more important in the region than the settlement at Gaza. Between 2005 and 2014, the area around the archaeological site changed significantly with the construction of industrial buildings and craters nearby from the 2014 Gaza War. Archaeologist Michael Press suggests that a 10 feet (3.0 m) marble statue of Zeus found in 1879, and it is from this discovery that the site gets its name which in Arabic means "the mound of the idol".

The Netzarim Junction bicycle bombing was a suicide bombing which occurred on November 11, 1994, at an Israeli Army checkpoint located in the Gaza Strip. In the attack, three Israeli soldiers were killed and six Israeli soldiers and six Palestinian Arab were wounded. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.
