Berg Church (Vestfold)

Old Berg Church (Norwegian: Berg gamle kirke) is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in Larvik Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It is located in the village of Berg. It is the former church for the Berg parish which is part of the Larvik prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Tunsberg. Now, it is a preserved church that is occasionally used by the parish, but it has not been in regular use since 1878. The gray and brown stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1100 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 122 people.

The brick church was built in a rectangular design in 2007 using plans drawn up by the architect Reidar Aasen from the architectural firm Børve og Bochsenius. The church seats about 200 people.

Nevlunghavn and neighboring Helgeroa have grown together through conurbation so that Statistics Norway considers them to form one urban area. The statistics about the two villages are no longer tracked separately. The 1.66-square-kilometre (410-acre) urban area has a population (2022) of 1,962 and a population density of 1,185 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,070/sq mi).

Nevlunghavn (sometimes also spelled Nevlunghamn) is a village in Larvik Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The village is located along the Skaggerak coast in the Brunlanes area of Larvik. It is located about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) to the south of the village of Helgeroa and about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west of the town of Stavern. Nevlunghavn and neighboring Helgeroa have grown together through conurbation so that Statistics Norway considers them to form one urban area. The statistics about the two villages are no longer tracked separately. The 1.66-square-kilometre (410-acre) urban area has a population (2022) of 1,962 and a population density of 1,185 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,070/sq mi). Nevlunghavn is the southernmost point in Vestfold County, excluding islands, islets and skerries. It was located in southern Brunlanes municipality until 1988 when it became part of Larvik Municipality.

Tanum Church (Norwegian: Tanum kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Larvik Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tanum. It is the church for the Tanum parish which is part of the Larvik prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Tunsberg. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design around the year 1100 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 240 people.

Brunlanes is a parish and former municipality within Larvik municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It was annexed by Larvik on January 1, 1988.The administrative centre of the municipality was located in the adjacent villages of Nevlunghavn and Helgeroa. Arguably the best soil in Vestfold County can be found in Brunlanes, and farming is the main industry with considerable vegetable- and corn cultivation. It is home to Berg Old Church at Berg, which was erected in the 1100s, but laid in ruins by the 1960s. The church had been rebuilt and features a clear-cut architecture with a red tilestone roof.

Nalum is a farm area in Larvik municipality, Norway. It is located on the southeastern part of the Brunlanes peninsula near the town of Stavern. The current name is derived from the earlier name of Njardheimr, which means Njard's place, and was likely a site of worship for the god Njörðr. The suffix -heim indicates that the farm dates from the pre-Viking period. Artifacts have been found here from the bronze, iron, and Viking periods.Politician Martin Olsen Nalum bought Nalum farm in 1881, and changed his surname accordingly.The Nalum schoolhouse was taken over by the Nalum Women's Union in 1914 and now serves as a retirement home.

Brummer was a training ship of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II designed in the mid 1930s primarily for anti-aircraft gunnery training, she was also fitted for mine laying, her intended duty in wartime. Brummer was also used to test high pressure steam turbine systems designed for the German destroyers. She took part in the invasion of Poland, laying mines off the Polish coast. In January 1940 she was used as a commerce raider in the Baltic Sea and later took part in the invasion of Norway; as a command ship of a transport squadron. On 14 April she was torpedoed by the British submarine HMS Sterlet off Jutland, losing the complete bow section.

Battle of Nesjar (Slaget ved Nesjar) was a sea battle off the coast of Norway in 1016. It was a primary event in the reign of King Olav Haraldsson (later Saint Olav). Icelandic skald and court poet Sigvatr Þórðarson composed the poem Nesjavísur in memory of the battle. A monument known as the Nesjar Monument was erected on the 1000th anniversary of the battle, located in Helgeroa village in Larvik, Vestfold County, where the battle is believed to have occurred.

Fritzøehus is a private estate and mansion (palace) located in Larvik, Norway. It is the largest privately-owned estate in Norway.

Håøya is an island in Porsgrunn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The 2.4-square-kilometre (0.93 sq mi) island is located in the Langesundsfjorden, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of the town of Langesund (in Bamble Municipality). About 1.8 square kilometres (0.69 sq mi) of the island (most of the island) is protected as a nature reserve. Håøya nature reserve was established in 2002 to preserve a coastal landscape with a large variety of little affected forest types, including the southernmost natural beech forest in the country. Historically, the island had permanent residents and its own school. Today, there are no permanent residents, but there are many holiday cottages for vacationers. The island is known for having summer camps arranged by Oluf Reed-Olsen.
