Øyestad

Øyestad Church (Norwegian: Øyestad kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Arendal Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Rykene, on the north side of the river Nidelva. It is one of the churches for the Øyestad parish which is part of the Arendal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built in a long church, gothic design around the year 1200 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The main body of the church is whitewashed stone, but the main entrance and tower are wooden and painted red. The church seats about 250 people.

Rykene or Rygene is a village located along the river Nidelva in Agder county, Norway. The village is primarily located in Arendal municipality, but a small portion of the village lies across the river in the neighboring municipality of Grimstad. Rykene is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north of the town of Grimstad and about the same distance south of the city of Arendal. Historically, the village grew up due to its close proximity to forests as the timber was floated down river to the sawmills in Rykene. The village of Lindtveit lies about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to the northwest, the village of Løddesøl lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the north, the village of Gjennestad lies about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) to the northeast. The village sits at the junction of Norwegian County Road 407 and Norwegian County Road 408. The 0.75-square-kilometre (190-acre) village has a population (2022) of 763 which gives the village a population density of 965 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,500/sq mi). An area of 0.05 square kilometres (12 acres) lies in Grimstad with 22 residents while the rest of the village lies in Arendal on the north side of the river.The village sits along the river Nidelva, at a waterfall called Rygene. The village used to have the same name as the waterfall, but the spelling of the village was later changed to Rykene. The name comes from the Old Norse name: rjúkandi which means "smoking", possibly referring to the mist at the base of the waterfall. The name has the same etymology as the municipality of Rjukan. The waterfall has since been dammed and now is the site of the Rykene Power Station which has a maximum output of 55 megawatts (74,000 hp) and a mean annual output of 316 gigawatt-hours (1,140 TJ).The local sports team is Rygene IL. The historic Øyestad Church is located just outside of the village.

Gjennestad or Ginnestad is a village in Arendal municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located a short distance north of the river Nidelva, just off Norwegian County Road 407. The village of Rykene sits about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) to the southwest of Gjennestad.

Håbbestad is a village in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located about half way between the villages of Rykene and Fevik on the north shore of the lake Temse.

Lindtveit is a village in Arendal municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located just east of the river Nidelva along the Norwegian County Road 408. The village of Rykene is located about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) to the southeast of Lindtveit.

Løddesøl is a village in Arendal municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the Norwegian County Road 408 on the eastern shore of the river Nidelva. The village lies about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) south of the village of Rise, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) east of the village of Nævesdal, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of the village of Lindtveit, and about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) west of the town of Arendal. The village has an elementary school and preschool as well as a sawmill and some small stores.

Fevik Church (Norwegian: Fevik arbeidskirke) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Grimstad Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Fevik. It is an annex chapel in the Fjære parish which is part of the Vest-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, concrete and wood chapel was built in a long church style in 1976 using designs by the architect Lindefjell. The chapel seats about 100 people.

Fevik is a Seaside resort and village in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the Skaggerak coast about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) northeast of the town of Grimstad and about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the city of Arendal. The village of Vik lies just southwest of Fevik. The 4.39-square-kilometre (1.69 sq mi) village of Fevik has a population (2015) of about 5,300 people, with most working in Arendal or central Grimstad. Since 2014, Fevik has been considered part of the "urban area" of Arendal by Statistics Norway.The European route E18 runs just to the north of the village area and the Norwegian County Road 420 runs through the village. Fevik Church is located in the village.

Engene Church (Norwegian: Engene kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Arendal Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Nedenes. It is one of the churches for the Øyestad parish which is part of the Arendal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1882 using plans originally drawn up by the architect Wilhelm Hanstein. The church seats about 480 people.

Nedenes is a village in Arendal municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the southern part of Arendal, just north of the municipal border with Grimstad. The Norwegian County Road 420 runs through the village heading north to the village of Rød and onwards to the island of Hisøya to the north. Engene Church is located in Nedenes.The county of Agder was named Nedenes amt from the 1600s until 1919. This name was chosen because the Nedenes village was once a large, medieval farm and later was the seat of the county officials.

Vik is a village in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the northern end of the Kilen bay that flows past the town of Grimstad. The village sits at the junction of Norwegian County Road 420 and Norwegian County Road 407 on the south side of the European route E18 highway. The village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Fjære. The historic Fjære Church lies about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) west of the village.

It is one of the churches for the Øyestad parish which is part of the Arendal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1884 using plans drawn up by the architect Johan Christoff Friedrich Reuter (1829-1909). The church seats about 650 people.
