Tallahassee ( TAL-ə-HASS-ee) is the capital city of the U.S. state of Florida. It is the county seat and only incorporated municipality in Leon County. Tallahassee became the capital of Florida, then the Florida Territory, in 1824. In 2022, the population was 201,731, making it the eighth-most populous city in the state of Florida. The population of the Tallahassee metropolitan area was 385,145 as of 2018. Tallahassee is the largest city in the Florida Big Bend and Florida Panhandle region, and the main center for trade and agriculture in the Florida Big Bend and Southwest Georgia regions. In 1824, in appreciation of the enormous service rendered to this country by the Marquis de Lafayette during the Revolutionary War, Congress voted to grant him a full township in the Florida Territory. This tract was called the Lafayette Land Grant and encompassed over 23,000 acres. While the Marquis never came to visit his property, he designated an agent to sell parcels of it on his behalf. The 2,400 acres upon which Goodwood Plantation was sited was purchased by Hardy Croom from the Lafayette Grant in 1834. Goodwood Plantation (also known as Old Croom Mansion) was a medium-sized cotton plantation of about 1,675 acres (7 km2) in central Leon County, Florida, established by Hardy Bryan Croom. It is located at 1600 Miccosukee Road. The plantation was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on June 30, 1972.

Federal Correctional Institution, Tallahassee (FCI Tallahassee), is a low security United States federal prison for female inmates in Tallahassee, Florida with a designed designated capacity of 812. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the Department of Justice. The facility also has an adjacent detention center that houses administrative security level male inmates. FCI Tallahassee is located three miles (5 km) east of downtown Tallahassee on US Highway 319.

Governor's Square is a super-regional shopping mall located on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, Florida. Its two-level design was a first for northern Florida when it opened in 1979, and was for many years the newest of two enclosed malls in the Tallahassee area, the other being The Centre of Tallahassee, formerly the Tallahassee Mall. The anchor stores are currently JCPenney, Macy's, and Dillard's. Built into a hillside, the mall can be entered either on the first or second level, depending on where a particular entrance is located. The mall's original anchors stores were J. C. Penney, Sears, and Maas Brothers. Maas Brothers was converted to Burdines in 1991. In March 2005, the Burdines store was converted to a Macy's.A 1993 expansion included an additional wing as well as Dillard's becoming the fourth anchor.On December 28, 2018, Sears announced that it would be closing its Governor's Square anchor store as part of a plan to close 80 stores nationwide. The store closed in March 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the vacant store served as a Florida Department of Health monoclonal antibody treatment site.In 2015 the Governor's Square Mall received a $10 million interior and exterior renovation. The mall lies within a relatively affluent trade area less than two miles (3 km) east of downtown.

Tom Brown Park is a 255-acre (1.03 km2) city park in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. Located on the eastern side of Tallahassee off Capital Circle, Tom Brown Park is a large recreation park, featuring several baseball fields, a disc golf course, tennis courts, a BMX track, a 3.1 mile mountain bike trail known as Magnolia Trail, picnic areas and nature trails for walking and running. Lake Leon is located in the park, along with the southern end of the Goose Pond Trail and the east end of the Fern Trail. This park also has a dog park, with fenced-in areas for small and large dogs to play.

On November 2, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at Tallahassee Hot Yoga, a yoga studio located in Tallahassee, Florida. The gunman, identified as Scott Paul Beierle, shot six women, two of them fatally, and pistol-whipped a man before killing himself.Criminal investigators attested to the attacker's hatred of women. The US Secret Service and International Centre for Counter-Terrorism consider the attack an act of misogynist terrorism.

Lake Leon, also known as Tom Brown Park Pond, is a small lake on the eastern side of Tallahassee, Florida, United States. Located within Tom Brown Park, there is a nature trail around the lake, with a boardwalk along one side.

The Magnolia Heights Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on June 29, 1984) located in Tallahassee, Florida. The district runs from 701 through 1005 East Park Avenue, and Cadiz Street. It contains 25 historic buildings.
