In 1824, in appreciation of the enormous service rendered to this country by the Marquis de Lafayette during the Revolutionary War, Congress voted to grant him a full township in the Florida Territory. This tract was called the Lafayette Land Grant and encompassed over 23,000 acres. While the Marquis never came to visit his property, he designated an agent to sell parcels of it on his behalf. The 2,400 acres upon which Goodwood Plantation was sited was purchased by Hardy Croom from the Lafayette Grant in 1834. Goodwood Plantation (also known as Old Croom Mansion) was a medium-sized cotton plantation of about 1,675 acres (7 km2) in central Leon County, Florida, established by Hardy Bryan Croom. It is located at 1600 Miccosukee Road. The plantation was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on June 30, 1972.

Governor's Square is a super-regional shopping mall located on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, Florida. Its two-level design was a first for northern Florida when it opened in 1979, and was for many years the newest of two enclosed malls in the Tallahassee area, the other being The Centre of Tallahassee, formerly the Tallahassee Mall. The anchor stores are currently JCPenney, Macy's, and Dillard's. Built into a hillside, the mall can be entered either on the first or second level, depending on where a particular entrance is located. The mall's original anchors stores were J. C. Penney, Sears, and Maas Brothers. Maas Brothers was converted to Burdines in 1991. In March 2005, the Burdines store was converted to a Macy's.A 1993 expansion included an additional wing as well as Dillard's becoming the fourth anchor.On December 28, 2018, Sears announced that it would be closing its Governor's Square anchor store as part of a plan to close 80 stores nationwide. The store closed in March 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the vacant store served as a Florida Department of Health monoclonal antibody treatment site.In 2015 the Governor's Square Mall received a $10 million interior and exterior renovation. The mall lies within a relatively affluent trade area less than two miles (3 km) east of downtown.

On November 2, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at Tallahassee Hot Yoga, a yoga studio located in Tallahassee, Florida. The gunman, identified as Scott Paul Beierle, shot six women, two of them fatally, and pistol-whipped a man before killing himself.Criminal investigators attested to the attacker's hatred of women. The US Secret Service and International Centre for Counter-Terrorism consider the attack an act of misogynist terrorism.

The Magnolia Heights Historic District is a U.S. historic district (designated as such on June 29, 1984) located in Tallahassee, Florida. The district runs from 701 through 1005 East Park Avenue, and Cadiz Street. It contains 25 historic buildings.

The Gov. John W. Martin House (also known as Apalachee) is a historic house in Tallahassee, Florida. The residence of governor John W. Martin, it is located within the borders of DeSoto Site Historic State Park. On January 6, 1986, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Covington House (also known as the Schendel House) is a historic house located in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Woman's Club of Tallahassee is a historic woman's club in Tallahassee, Florida. It is located at 1513 Cristobal Drive. On November 18, 1987, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Los Robles Gate is a historic site in Tallahassee, Florida. It is located at the intersection of Thomasville and Meridian Roads. On September 21, 1989, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The historic Los Robles subdivision, just east of Lake Ella and adjoining midtown, was developed beginning in the 1920s and began a trend of expansion to the north of downtown. Los Robles is Spanish for "The Oak Trees" named after the centuries-old live oaks throughout the neighborhood.

Leon High School is a public high school in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is the oldest public high school in the state, and is a part of the Leon County Schools System.

The Brokaw-McDougall House is a historic mansion in Tallahassee, Florida. Built in 1856, it is located at 329 North Meridian Road. On July 24, 1972, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The house was begun in 1856 and completed in 1860 by Peres Bonney Brokaw who had moved to Florida from New Jersey in 1850. His daughter eventually inherited the house; the reference to McDougall in the house's name comes from that daughter's married name. The house was sold to Florida in 1973 and is used as the offices of the Historic Tallahassee Preservation Board.
