Westcott, Rhode Island

East Natick is a small village in Warwick, Rhode Island. It is centered on the intersection of Bald Hill Road and East Avenue. The village is separated from Natick proper by the railroad (now the Washington Secondary Trail), and the Pawtuxet River. The other nearby village is Pontiac, which is northerly across the Pawtuxet. East Natick was home to many industrial workers, who worked in the mills of nearby Natick. Examples of traditional Rhode Island mill housing can be seen in the northerly part in the village. One of the most interesting buildings here is that of the Warwick Ice Cream Company, founded 1930. Built in 1940, it is one of only a few examples of Art Deco architecture in Warwick. It was designed by Providence architect Francis Chiaverini. There is a colonial era farmhouse at 697 East Avenue. East Natick is home to two prominent Rhode Island institutions: the Community College of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Mall. CCRI is located on the grounds of the former Knight Estate, owned by first the Spragues and then the Knights, major manufacturing families. The main house, still standing at 486 East Avenue, is believed to have been built by William Sprague between 1827 and his death in 1836. The estate was later donated to the state, and the Rhode Island Junior College, now CCRI, opened there in 1972. The Rhode Island Mall, originally the Midland Mall, opened in 1967. Much of the building is currently vacant.

The Knight Estate is a historic estate in Warwick, Rhode Island, that is home to the Knight Campus of the Community College of Rhode Island. Developed as a country estate for a family of industrialists and later donated to the state, the main house and its outbuildings were listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Midland Commons (formerly Midland Mall from 1965–1985 and Rhode Island Mall from 1985–2011) is an outdoor power center in Warwick, Rhode Island. It previously existed as a two-story, enclosed shopping mall. The property opened as the Midland Mall in October 1967; for several years, it co-existed with the nearby Warwick Mall that opened in 1970. The mall was renamed the Rhode Island Mall in March 1985, and experienced rapid decline as tenants relocated to the Warwick Mall in the 1990s. It was considered a dead mall by the 2000s, and the interior of the mall was closed permanently in April 2011. The property was sold in 2012 and has been under redevelopment into its current configuration as a power center since 2016. The mall was originally anchored by Sears and Shepards. The latter eventually became G. Fox, and later Filene's, before being divided into Kohl's and Walmart. The former was converted into At Home and Raymour & Flanigan. The interior of the mall was turned into Burlington, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Planet Fitness.

Rhode Island ( (listen), like road) is a state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It is the smallest U.S. state by area and the seventh-least populous, with slightly less than 1.1 million residents as of 2020; but Rhode Island has grown at every decennial count since 1790 and is the second-most densely populated state, after New Jersey. The state takes its name from the eponymous island, though nearly all of its land area is on the mainland. Rhode Island borders Connecticut to its west; Massachusetts to its north and east; and the Atlantic Ocean to its south via Rhode Island Sound and Block Island Sound; and shares a small maritime border with New York, east of Long Island. Providence is its capital and most populous city. Native Americans lived around Narragansett Bay for thousands of years before English settlers began arriving in the early 17th century. Rhode Island was unique among the Thirteen British Colonies in having been founded by a refugee, Roger Williams, who fled religious persecution in the Massachusetts Bay Colony to establish a haven for religious liberty. He founded Providence in 1636 on land purchased from local tribes, thereby creating the first settlement in North America with an explicitly secular government. The Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations subsequently became a destination for religious and political dissenters and social outcasts, earning it the moniker "Rogue's Island".Rhode Island was the first colony to call for a Continental Congress, which it did in 1774, and the first to renounce its allegiance to the British Crown, which it did on May 4, 1776. After the American Revolution, during which it was heavily occupied and contested, Rhode Island became the fourth state to ratify the Articles of Confederation, which it did on February 9, 1778. Because its citizens favored a weaker central government, it boycotted the 1787 convention that had drafted the United States Constitution, which it initially refused to ratify; it finally did ratify it on May 29, 1790, the last of the original 13 states to do so.The state was officially named the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations since the colonial era, but came to be commonly known as "Rhode Island". In November 2020, the state's voters approved an amendment to the state constitution formally dropping "and Providence Plantations" from its full name. Its official nickname is the "Ocean State", a reference to its 400 mi (640 km) of coastline and the large bays and inlets that make up about 14% of its total area.

The Valley Queen Mill is an historic mill at 200 Providence Street in West Warwick, Rhode Island. It is a five-story L-shaped stone building built in 1834 by the Greene Company. The mill is the oldest of the three mill buildings in the area. It originally operated as a cotton factory, producing coarse cotton cloths under the Greene Company name. In 1888, B.B.& R. Knight Company, the textile giant that made Fruit of the Loom products, purchased the Valley Queen Mill, and enlarged the plant. B.B &.R. Knight was a complete textile operation with combing, spinning and weaving facilities. In 1931, the McIver Family, which owned The Original Bradford Soap Works, bought the Valley Queen Mill after B.B. & R Knight Company went bankrupt. In the 1960s, the Howland Family took over the business. Under the leadership of the Howland family, today Bradford Soap Works manufactures high quality bar soaps and soap bases in the Valley Queen Mill building. The mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Kent Hospital is a community teaching hospital located in Warwick, Rhode Island. It was a founding member of the Care New England in 1996, along with Women & Infants Hospital and Butler Hospital.

McCarthy Field is a baseball stadium in West Warwick, Rhode Island. The field is located in Riverpoint Park, where the north and south branches of the Pawtuxet River merge. The ballpark was constructed and mainly suited for high school, and amateur baseball. However in 1996 it would host minor league baseball for the first time. The newly formed Independent Northeast League (now known as the Can-Am League) was looking to expand and the Rhode Island Tiger Sharks were formed. The park was not really suited for such a high level of baseball as the left and right field lines are only about 300 feet from home plate, and dead center field is only 366 feet. The team finished 19-61 and averaged about 200 fans per game. The team would not return for the 1997 season. However, also in 1996 the New England Collegiate Baseball League was looking to expand and West Warwick was chosen to host a team. The stadium would now play host to the Rhode Island Reds. The Reds played 2 seasons at the stadium before moving to Cranston, Rhode Island and becoming the Rhode Island Gulls. Once again, in 2001 the NECBL looked to expand, and West Warwick was picked to host a team. The new Riverpoint Royals would play at McCarthy field. The Royals would play for 4 seasons at the field, however they lacked sufficient attendance numbers and in 2005 the NECBL was set to have an un-balanced schedule with 13 teams in the league. The decision was made to eliminate the Royals from the league. The stadium has moved back to its roots since the 2004 season, mainly playing host to high school and amateur games and hosting games for small college teams in the fall.

The Royal Mill Complex is an historic textile mill site at 125 Providence Street in West Warwick, Rhode Island. The mill complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. It has recently been completely renovated and remodeled into 250 residential apartments. The complex also includes the Ace Dye Works mill on the south side of the river, which has been converted into lofts. A pedestrian skybridge connects the two mills.

The Rhode Island Computer Museum is a vintage computer museum located in Warwick, Rhode Island, United States. The museum's Learning Lab and display space are in the lower level of the La-Z-Boy building at 1755 Bald Hill Roadd, Warwick, RI 02886. The museum's warehouse is in Bldg 310 Compass Circle, Suite C, North Kingstown. With technology’s rapid transformation, the rich history of the development of computers and digital technology can easily get lost, and the museum aims to preserve this history to inspire young people with an interest in technology. The official purpose of the museum is “procuring and preserving whatever relates to computer science and its history, disseminating knowledge, and encouraging research in computer science by means of visits, lectures, discussions, and publications.”

West Warwick High School (abbreviated as WWHS) is a public high school in West Warwick, Rhode Island, United States. In 2022, the school ranked 29th out of 62 in Rhode Island by US News.

Warwick Mall is an enclosed American shopping mall in Warwick, Rhode Island, on the north side of Interstate 295 near the junction with Interstate 95. Composed of more than 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m2) of retail space, it features more than 80 stores and a food court. The mall opened for business in 1970, with Boston-based Filene's and Jordan Marsh alongside Providence-based Peerless and The Outlet, and national chain Woolworth as initial anchors, JCPenney being later added as a sixth anchor. Since then, all the anchor stores and the interior of the mall have changed as a result of business closings and consolidations. Today, the mall has seven main anchors: Macy's on the northern side, Old Navy and JCPenney on the western side, Jordan's Furniture and Nordstrom Rack on the eastern side, and Target, Off Broadway Shoes, and Golf Galaxy on the southern side. The mall also has a large food court, complete with a carousel, in the former Peerless anchor space. The mall was largely flooded on March 30, 2010, during historic flooding of the nearby Pawtuxet River. The mall closed for five months after the flooding, with its "Preview" beginning in August and the Grand Reopening in October. The mall's final anchor, Macy's, reopened on March 16, 2011, and just over a month later, Jordan's Furniture announced on April 20, 2011 that it will open a new store in the vacated Old Navy and Caldor anchor space on the east side of the mall.

West Winds, also known as the Burlingame-Quinn House, is a historic home in West Warwick, Rhode Island. The site was built c. 1740 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The house seems to have been built between 1736 and 1753, probably c.1740. At the time of purchase by George Burlingame (1777-1872) in 1819, the property encompassed 270 acres (110 ha) of farmland. In 1921 it was bought by Robert E. Quinn, a Rhode Island state senator, lieutenant governor, governor, and judge. It was Quinn who christened the property "West Winds". The building has been extensively renovated and expanded several times during its history. Much of the original farmland still surrounds the property as a golf course.
