The Alexander-Schaer House is a historic house at 13219 United States Route 70, a short way east of Galloway, Arkansas. It is a two-story frame structure, with a gabled tile roof and brick veneer exterior. Built in 1920, it is a fine example of Mission/Spanish Revival architecture, with the tile roof, brick exterior, and decorative ironwork elements all hallmarks of the style. The house is shaded by ancient oaks and a pecan grove overlooking the cypress waters of Hill Lake. The house's design has been attributed to both John Parks Almand (who did work for Lucy Alexander Schaer's family) or Charles L. Thompson, who did work for other members of the Schaer family.The Alexander Schaer House has effectively been an event space since 1920 by the original owners, Fred and Lucy Alexander-Schaer, a Little Rock socialite. The Schaer House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The Roundtop Filling Station, in Sherwood, Arkansas, United States, is one of only two structures in Sherwood to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the other being Sylvan Hills Country Club Golf Course.

On September 6, 1863, near Little Rock, Arkansas, a duel was fought between John S. Marmaduke and Lucius M. Walker, two generals in the Confederate States Army. Tension had risen between the two officers during the Battle of Helena on July 4, 1863, when Marmaduke accused Walker of not supporting his force, and then retaliated by not informing Walker of a Confederate retreat. Marmaduke was later assigned to serve under Walker during a Union advance against Little Rock. Walker did not support Marmaduke during a retreat after the Battle of Brownsville, and Marmaduke questioned Walker's courage after the Battle of Bayou Meto on August 27. A series of notes passed between the two generals by friends resulted in a duel, during which Marmaduke fatally wounded Walker. Marmaduke was arrested and charged with murder, but was soon released and later the charge was dropped. He survived the war and later became Governor of Missouri. Union forces captured Little Rock later in the campaign, after the Battle of Bayou Fourche.

The Battle of Bayou Meto, also known as the Battle of Reed's Bridge, was fought near present-day Jacksonville, Arkansas, along the Bayou Meto River, on August 27, 1863. During the American Civil War, Union forces left Helena, Arkansas, to move against the Confederate-held state capital of Little Rock. Part of the Union command, under Brigadier General John W. Davidson, defeated Confederate cavalry commanded by Brigadier General John S. Marmaduke on August 25, in the Battle of Brownsville. After the action at Brownsville, the Confederates fell back to the Bayou Meto. Union attacks on August 27 succeeded in pushing Marmaduke's men back across the bayou, but were unable to break the Confederate line. Davidson withdrew back to Brownsville after the fighting. The Union advance resumed on September 6, and Little Rock surrendered on September 10, after the Battle of Bayou Fourche. Tensions exacerbated during the action at Bayou Meto contributed to the Marmaduke-Walker duel, during which a Confederate general was killed. In 2002, part of the battlefield was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Bayou Meto Battlefield.

McAlmont, also referred to as "Mac Side", is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. The community adjoins eastern North Little Rock, and is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area.

During the American Civil War, Arkansas was a Confederate state, though it had initially voted to remain in the Union. Following the capture of Fort Sumter in April 1861, Abraham Lincoln called for troops from every Union state to put down the rebellion, and Arkansas and several other states seceded. For the rest of the civil war, Arkansas played a major role in controlling the Mississippi River, a major waterway. Arkansas raised 48 infantry regiments, 20 artillery batteries, and over 20 cavalry regiments for the Confederacy, mostly serving in the Western Theater, though the Third Arkansas served with distinction in the Army of Northern Virginia. Major-General Patrick Cleburne was the state's most notable military leader. The state also supplied four infantry regiments, four cavalry regiments and one artillery battery of white troops for the Union and six infantry regiments and one artillery battery of "U.S. Colored Troops." Numerous skirmishes as well as several significant battles were fought in Arkansas, including the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern in March 1862, a decisive one for the Trans-Mississippi Theater which ensured Union control of northern Arkansas. The state capitol at Little Rock was captured in 1863. By the end of the war, programs such as the draft, high taxes, and martial law had led to a decline in enthusiasm for the Confederate cause. Arkansas was officially readmitted to the Union in 1868.

The 1991 West Virginia derecho was a serial derecho (storm) that started in Arkansas in the early morning hours of April 9, 1991, and made its way northeast, finally dying out over Pennsylvania late that evening. It was the worst severe weather event for West Virginia since the 1974 Super Outbreak.

The Fourche Creek watershed is arguably the most important urban watershed in the state of Arkansas in the United States for ecological, economic, and social reasons.

American Airlines Flight 1420 was a flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Little Rock National Airport in the United States. On June 1, 1999, the McDonnell Douglas MD-82 operating as Flight 1420 overran the runway upon landing in Little Rock and crashed. 9 of the 145 people aboard were immediately killed—the captain and 8 passengers.

The McCraw Cemetery is a historic cemetery in Jacksonville, Arkansas. It is located in a wooded area on the city's southeastern outskirts, well south of the Military Road (Arkansas Highway 264), and west of the Military Mobile Homes. It has 37 marked graves, of which ten are of children. The markers date from 1841 to 1937, and include some of the first settlers of northern Pulaski County. The cemetery, a family plot of the McCraw family, was lost for many years, and is now under the care of the Reed's Bridge Historical Society.The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

LISA Academy North is an open-enrollment public charter high school located in North Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. LISA Academy North Middle High serves students in grades 6 through 12 and is administered by the LISA Academy Charter School. Since 2008, LISA Academy North has earned the reputation of providing a distinct, high-quality education to students across Arkansas. LISA Academy is a tuition-free public charter school with a comprehensive college preparatory program focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. All LISA Academy schools have been accredited by the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education since opening.

The Jacksonville Commercial Historic District encompasses a 1-1/2 block section of 1st Street in Jacksonville, Arkansas, between Main Street and 2nd Street. The area contains six commercial buildings, constructed between 1925 and 1962, a period when the railroad was an important element of the city's growth. (The railroad tracks lie across 1st Street from the commercial strip. The buildings are mostly single-story brick or stucco buildings with vernacular style.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
